80-20 has begun its Endorsement Convention (EC) process. The following was sent to its members who are eligible to become candidates for Delegates to EC. You may want to read the strict ethenical standards required of all candidates at the top of "Candidate Application Form."

"The National Review" Featured 80-20

80-20 got a lot of press notice lately. The BIG mainstream papers
that mentioned 80-20 include:

However, the best demonstration of 80-20's effectiveness emerged on 8/12. After 80-20's Exec. Comm. decided that it would express its displeasure publicly with the lack of response from the Bush camp, it sent to its 1.1 million subscribers a mass email entitled "Bush & Elaine Chao Don't Care About AsAms." Two days later, a prominent national conservative weekly magazine that is well-identified with the Republican Party, The National Review, reacted.

On 8/12, the magazine carried a 1500 word article devoted ALMOST EXCLUSIVELY TO 80-20. Its title is "If You're API and You Know It...vote Democratic?" Quoting 80-20 extensively, it hinted that 80-20 was a front for the Democratic Party. The article predicts that 80-20 will not be able to deliver 80-20 to Kerry, but might at best deliver 60-40. Go

80-20 is NOT a front for anyone. However, IF 80-20 endorses Kerry, though it has NOT, it shall deliver 80 to 20 for Kerry! If Bush wants our votes, he'll have to deliver two BIG ITEMS: 1) enforce Exec. Order 11246 for Asian Ams immediately, and 2) ease Congressman
Howard Coble out of the chairmanship of House Subcomm. On Homeland Security. 80-20 helps those who help AsAm's legitimate aspirations. 80-20 is always true to its words.

Bush & Elaine Chao Don't Care About AsAms

The NOBLEST of all American dreams is the dream of equal opportunity for ALL Americans. Thus far, AsAms have been denied that dream. Ample statistics show that we have been denied equal opportunity in workplaces. We are given less pay for equal work and 1/3 the opportunity of all other Americans to rise to the top.

Kerry and Nader want to include AsAms in that dream. BUSH DOES NOT.

BUSH HAS NOT, after repeated prompting by the leadership of 80-20** and many of you who sent faxes and emails.

Bush is the sitting president. He doesn't have to wait till after the election to open the opportunity for us. He could order Labor Secretary ELAINE CHAO to enforce EO 11246 for us NOW.

ELAINE CHAO doesn't have to wait for Bush to order her. Since 1965, the law has empowered the Labor Secretary to enforce EO 11246 for ALL Americans. What is the use of having an AsAm in the cabinet, if she doesn't have the integrity to enforce an existing law to protect AsAms from being discriminated in the workplace? See FOOTNOTE for evidence of non-enforcement.

After 4 years of quiet and diplomatic effort to get President Bush and Secretary Chao to open opportunity for AsAms & getting no action**, 80-20 must express utter disappointment in President Bush's Administration.

We urge all AsAms to tell their friends and relatives about the irresponsible policy decisions of those two individuals. 80-20 IS NOW CONSIDERING INITIATING A CLASS ACTION AGAINST THE U.S. LABOR DEPARTMENT.

After this public condemnation of the Bush Administration, if it still fails to respond BEFORE Nov. 2, then vote against Bush on that day.

Politics is funny, however. Sometimes, when politicians' mistakes are called to attention openly, they correct themselves. If and when that is the case, 80-20 will RECONSIDER its current position. However, AsAms will be foolish not to take Bush's non-response at its face value.

Condemn the Bush Administration's failure to respond to our legitimate concerns, and be psychologically prepared to vote against him in November.

FOOTNOTE: Let's look at the statistics in universities, the so- called
bastion of idealism in our society. University
administrators are recruited almost exclusively from the ranks
of faculty and professionals already employed in the academic
world. Hence the ratio of [administrators / (faculty +
professionals)], broken down to races, is a measure of the
opportunity enjoyed by American citizens of different races.
For full-time staff nationwide, that ratio for blacks (non-
Hispanic) is 0.193. That is, for every 100 black faculty and
professionals there are 19 black administrators. The ratio for
Native American is 0.169; for white (non-Hispanic) is 0.157; and
for Hispanic is 0.145. The national average is 0.150. The ratios
for men/women are rrespectively 0.15. However, it is only
0.057 for Asian American. The only group that has a lower
number is the "resident aliens," whose ratio is 0.046.

The situation is other US enterprises is worse!

Regardless of how Bush and Elaine Chao may defend themselves in
reaction to this e-mail, evidence will show that EO 11246 has
NEVER been enforced for AsAms. CIRCULATE THIS MESSAGE TO
YOUR FRIENDS AND RELATIVES.

When EO11246 is enforced, in 10 years there will be an increase of 6500 AsAm administrators in universities alone. When all domestic institutions are taken into account, the enforcement will benefit about 1 million AsAms directly. The ripple effect will benefit all AsAms greatly.

An AP article says shame on Asian Americans

Associated Press sent out an article entitled " Unlike Hispanics,
Surging Asian Population Lacks Political Clout ." Although it didn't say "Shame on Asian Americans, " to me it certainly implied it.

Hopefully, APAs will recognize that our lack of political clout
is a shame on us. Lacking political clout is a big reason why
a law, EO 11246, that is supposed to break the glass ceiling for all
Americans was NEVER enforced for APAs. It means that we failed to secure equal opportunity for our children.

How come we are so impotent?

Here are some reasons. Our focus on personal benefits rather than
community benefits is one reason. For example, our rich people give tens of thousands of dollars for a handshake or a photo with a famous politician or a possible later appointment rather than to APA political organizations. Even our political activists have focused on their respective turf concerns rather than APA unity, the bedrock of political clout. Another reason is that our support for politicians foolishly depends on their titles and likelihood to win the next election, NOT by how much they have served our community. In other words, we might have been too selfish for our own good.

80-20 is normally positive and optimistic. However, every once in a while we need to look at our own shortcomings in order to build a brighter future.

The article ended with a quote from S. B. Woo, 80-20 President: "To have one minority ignored by the political establishment is not healthy."

For US citizens only! Are you registered to vote? Only 52% of eligible APAs are registered to vote, compared to 70% for the entire US. Two types of citizens need to register: (1) those who've never registered, and (2) having registered but have moved to a new address. Please fulfill your obligation as a citizen and an educated person.

Here is the EASIEST WAY to register to vote! It will be the most meaningful 10 minutes you'll spend in your life for your offspring.

On page 2, fill out the form: check each square box on top and fill in required info next to blanks with a red *. Click once on each of the (instructions) written in red to help you fill out the correct information. For "Choice of Party," your choice is Republican, or (Independent /Decline) or Democrat. For most states, if you want to vote in the primary, you must choose either Dem. or Rep., although some states (e.g. CA) allow independents to vote in EITHER party's primary.
Click on (Instructions) next to Choice of Party to find out what choices you have. After you have filled the required information, go to the bottom of the page to click on the "Preview My Voter Registration" to go to page 3.

Put the ballot in an envelope, sign on the back side of the envelop, mail it and you will have voted. A Community Without 80-20 to Serve You

(2) Breaking the Glass Ceiling for the Working AsAms

Everyone talks about the glass ceiling. How many organizations have done something to BREAK the glass ceiling for YOU.

In the 2000 election, 80-20 requested in writing to presidential candidates for the historic first AsianAm cabinet member. Our political system responded. There have been 3 cabinet positions since. However, only our elite have benefited through that effort.

In the 2004 election, 80-20 aims to break the glass ceiling for the glass roots. John Kerry & Ralph Nader have already promised in writing to enforce a very powerful existing law (Exec. 1) 80-20 held a teleconference on 6/19 & raised $60,000 to
$89,000 for its war chest for the 2004 election. None will be
given to the endorse presidential candidate. Funds will be used to
buy TV, radio and newspaper ads to forge a bloc vote for the
endorsed candidates ONLY. That is the fundamental way to
increase our community's political clout.

Differences & Similarities of Dem. & Rep.

ELECTION TIME. 'Tis an opportune time for AsAms.

Astute Americans use elections to get the 2 parties to do things for them. AsAms must learn to do the same. But, first, know the differences and similarities of the two parties, highlighting those features that are of particular relevance to AsAms.

SIMILARITIES:

o Both want our money & votes BEFORE elections & give back benign negligence AFTERWARDS.

o For example, both the Democratic & Republican Administrations didn't bother to enforce Exec. Order 11246 for AsAms, a law that was designed to give equal opportunity in workplaces for ALL Americans. We are the only Americans who were left out.

o Both competed to distance from the ENTIRE AsAm community during the campaign finance scandal of 1997, which New York Times termed the Asia Gate, although only a FEW AsAms committed the misdeeds.

o Both lust to win the White House. Both will serve our rightful interests, if WE CAN HELP THEM WIN the White house -- 80-20's reason in advocating a SWING bloc vote.

o Both want to do the right things for America, but both mostly place their partisan interests first. Hence each party MUST FIRST serve those of its constituents who demand service from them. If AsAms are dumb enough not to ask for their service, and/or if our votes & money are split 50/50, then both parties will forever feed us
benign neglect. Wake up! [See below for "constituents" of each party.]

DIFFERENCES
(Being brief, the following is not comprehens ive)

o Rep. and Dem. have different constituents.
The Republican Party mostly counts on votes from the white male, rural folks, folks down South and in the Mid-West, & conservatives (people who prefer to preserve things the old way).
The Democratic Party mostly counts on folks in big cities, African Ams., Hispanics, immigrants, union households, and liberals (people who believe in change in order to cope).

o The two parties are different in philosophy.
Everything else being about equal, GOP will favor the businesses, because it believes that a big profit for business will trickle down to benefit all Americans. Everything else being about equal, the Dem. Party will favor the working folks, not because it is more compassionate, but because most of its constituents happen to be the little folks.

Above all, REMEMBER that political parties act in their own interest. If we have the unity to deliver a SWING bloc vote, then the two parties will compete to serve our rightful interest in order to win our bloc vote in the NEXT election.

Why does 80-20 insist on CONTESTED elections?

80-20 is bold and effective in fighting for our community.

80-20 is also bold in adhering to democratic principles as an organization, e.g. requiring all its elective positions be CONTESTED to give its members a true choice.

Unfortunately, 80-20 is a PAC and can't accept corporate money which is to pay for the ad. But James' compliment to 80-20 members is much appreciated. :-)

Why is a bloc vote so powerful?

Why is a bloc vote so powerful? Here is an illustration.

Two candidates run against each other in a hypothetical political district that has two constituent groups only. One group has 1 million voters and the other has 10 million voters. Candidate A, a novice, eagerly focuses on the large group, not being aware that the small constituent group has the internal political cohesion to deliver a bloc vote while the large group does not.

Candidate A wins the endorsement of most community leaders in the large group. When the ballots are open, he indeed wins in the large community. He wins 52% of that community's votes, while his opponent gets 48%. The difference between 52% and 48% is 4%. The large group has 10 millions votes. 4% of 10 million votes provides a "profit" of 400,000 votes to candidate A.

His opponent, candidate B, is a seasoned politician. She courts the small group and wins that little community by a ratio of 80 to 20, the namesake of The 80-20 Initiative. The difference between 80% and 20% is 60%. 60% of 1 million votes provides a "PROFIT" of 600,000 votes.

As a result, candidate B wins the election by 200,000 votes. That is the POWER OF A BLOC VOTE.

In California, the APA population is 1/9 that of the rest of the population, similar to the example given above.

Political Dirty Tricks Time

Beware of dirty tricks against 80-20 in an election year. They are actually dirty tricks against YOU -- to prevent YOU from having an effective political voice. Watch out for FAKE 80-20 e-mails. Such e-mails may have addresses similar or even identical to sbw@80-20.info or sbw@80-20.net . To help you so that you'll not be misled:

80-20 NEVER

• sends attachments or warns you about a virus via its mass e-mails,
• pushes pornography or physical enhancement,
• sells products, o takes a partisan stand (until we endorse in order to reward a presidential candidate who has done the better job to advance our rightful interests. An Endorsement Convention (EC) will be held. Delegates to EC are elected through an open & democratic election by all members),
• takes a stand on US foreign policy (80-20 has the right to take a stand, but we choose not to in order to avoid causing splits within the AsAm community), and
• changes its endorsement of a presidential candidate in the last days of the election season. Watch out for such a dirty trick, a day or two before November 2, 2004.

Power of a BLOC VOTE, illustrated

The following shows how a BLOC VOTE by AsAms in Calif., who represent only 8% of CA's voters, can tip the 55 electoral votes to either Bush or Kerry.

Don't believe it? Read on!!

Two presidential candidates are contesting for CA, which for simplicity is assumed to have two constituent groups only. One group has only 1 million votes (8%) and the other has 11 million votes (92%). Candidate A decides to spend his resources on the larger group. Candidate B decides to spend his resources mostly courting the much smaller minority community that has the ability to deliver 80 % of its votes to its endorsed candidate, much like what the Jewish American and African American communities has done for decades.

When the ballots are counted, presidential candidate A wins the larger community by the ratio of 52/48. The margin of difference is 4%. Since the larger group has 11 millions votes, 4% of 11 million votes provides a winning margin of 440,000 votes to candidate A. Presidential candidate B, having won the endorsement of the minority community, won that community's vote by a ratio of 80 to 20. The difference between 80% and 20% is 60%. 60% of 1 million votes is 600,000 votes. As a result, presidential candidate B wins CA's 55 electoral votes by (600,000 minus 440,000) electoral votes 160,000 votes. Note that 55 electoral votes represent more than 20% of what a candidate will need to be the next President of the US.

Why A Bloc Vote Benefits YOU

Can YOU use more political clout? If your answer is YES, then knowing the following may help YOU besides the benefits coming to YOU from a BLOC VOTE.

1) Politics is the exchange of interests between YOU and someone else:

Delivering 2000 votes may mean something in a city council election and gets you a contact in a zoning application. But in a presidential election, 2000 votes are in the noise level.

In contrast, delivering 600,000 Asian American votes in California may MAKE OR UNMAKE THE NEXT PRESIDENT and therefore win the enforcement of Exec. Order11246 for us in return. Note that 11246 has been enforced for all Americans EXCEPT us and our children. ARE YOUR MAD ENOUGH TO FIGHT?

Five Good Tidings and YOU

Good News 1: 80-20 received a lot of ink from the mainstream
newspapers recently. An Associated Press article by Deborah Kong,
reported that 80-20's questionnaire to presidential candidates of 2004
got answers of Yes/Yes/Yes from ALL EXCEPT for Rev. Sharpton & Pres.
Bush. It also reports the frustrations of some APA civic orgs. for not
being paid much attention by the political establishment. The article
was carried in USA Today, SF Chronicle, Atlanta Journal Constitution

Good News 2: Two editors-in-chief of APA student newspapers in two
large universities, each with thousands of APA students, have joined 80-
20 as members. That is GREAT SUPPORT FROM OUR YOUTH. We
didn't have that in the 2000 election.

Good News 3: Steve Davis, formerly the national news editor of USA
Today, now chair of the newspaper department, Syracuse University; S.I.
Newhouse School of Public Communication and the first author of "Click on
Democracy: Internet's Power to Chang Political Apathy into Civic
Action" just e-mailed to invite S. B. Woo, President of 80-20 to be a
speaker in a Conference organized by the Syracuse University on the
impact of Internet on politics in the USA. The Univ. pays for travel
expenses and accommodations. 80-20 should be able to REACH A
LOT OF THE MEDIA FOLKS during that conference in coming July,
JUST 4 months before the election.

Good News 4: 80-20's NJ chapter had a inaugural event on 2/21.
Its new President is Ved Chaudhary, who was interviewed by an Indian
Am TV station about the importance of 80-20 a few days ago.

Good News 5: The China station of Voice of America requested a TV
interview with 80-20 regarding Chinese American involvement in the
2004 Presidential Election. 80-20 has been interviewed by VOA via
radio, but a TV interview is a first. 80-20 President S. B. Woo has
accepted the invitation, while noting that 80-20 is an Asian American
Organization.

YOU & the making of the next US president

Your vote as a Delegate to 80-20's Endorsement Convention (EC)
may just decide who will be the next US president. Here is why.

First: In 2000, 80-20 endorsed Gore getting 70% of the APA voters
in CA to go for Gore, and Bush lost CA by 12 points. In 2004, if 80-20
endorses the Dem. nominee again, CA will likely remain safely in the
Democrats' column. On the other hand, if 80-20 will endorse Bush,
Bush will probably need to make up 4 points ONLY in order to win CA.
California will become a hotly contested state! If Bush wins CA's 55
electoral votes, the race for the White House will be over for the
Democrats.

Second: YOU can be one of the less than 100 Delegates to 80-20's
EC, if you are a dues-paying member, run for a Delegate position and win.
Whom 80-20 will endorse is decided by those Delegates.

Once, you become a Delegate to 80-20's EC, your one vote in the
EC will probably have more impact on the making of our next
president than sum of 50,000 votes cast by other citizens.
Phenomenal responsibility !

Reader's Reaction To The Yao Ming Episode

80-20 received at least 150 positive e-mails from its Yao Ming series
of 3 emails. The reaction to the first mass email was mixed. After 80-
20's second e-mail, a typical response reads as 1) below. 80-20 is very
heartened by the great response from every corner of our nation.

1) A Typical Response: Hi Dr. Woo: Happy New Year! I just want
to congratulate you and your organization for the great job you have
done for the Asian community!! It's about time for the Chinese and the
Asian community as a whole to have a strong voice such as yours to
speak up for them. I have passed on information about 80-20 to all my
friends and associates and strongly encouraged them to join. We thank
you and appreciate for all you and your staff have done for the Asian

2) From Many Supporters: Chinaman is NOT analogous to Englishman
and Frenchman. Try calling them Englandman and Franceman, and

3) From a Korean American: My name is Jason Kwah. I am
an Asian Pacific American of Korean descent living in New York
City. I would just like to commend you for a job well done in
handling this incident. I'll admit that upon first hearing about it, I
thought it might have been blown a bit out of proportion. However,

importance of addressing this incident. I can also tell that it was
handled with a great deal of tactfulness and respect, given Steve

wondered why I was being sent these emails, and treated them as spam.
However, the story of Ling Sing was quite striking... and I read up more

know that the word "chinaman" was derogatory.. and indeed compared
to other terms like "n**ger", it does seem very mild.... but I am also
happy that you are taking this effort to make us all better informed. We

On 5/10/2003, at the height of SARS scares, 5 Asian Am.
teachers were turned away by 2 NJ schools from fulfilling their
CONTRACTUAL obligations. Imagine if you are told to go home
from your work, because people of Asian descent are the prime
suspects owing to the SARS hysteria. Such a precedent must
NOT be allowed.
80-20 NEGOTIATED on the phone (not just writing a letter)
with the school superintendent to get 1) a public apology, 2) back
pay, 3) reinstitution of the program, and 4) a school district-wide
educational program to combat SARS hysteria.

(2) 80-20 Opens Your Path To Equal Opportunity:

All viable Democratic presidential candidates pledged in writing
that upon being the president they will enforce E.O. 11246 to
provide equal opportunity in workplaces for Asian Americans.
Currently it is enforced for all other Americans except us.
80-20 is confident that President Bush will soon sign it too.
At least, the National Chairman of AAPI for Bush/Cheney 2004,
John Tsu, agreed, as was reported in the 1/17/04 issue of The
World Journal.
In ten years, the number of APA Exec/Administrators is
estimated to increase by a factor of 3. The glass-ceiling

The N-gger word is no longer used against blacks. Words like
Chinaman, Jap & Chink will not be used against you with

PART II of Yao Ming Called A "Chinaxxx, "

TWO VERY DIFFERENT types of responses came to 80-20, after the earlier e-mail entitled "Yao Ming Called A Chinaxxx."

THE FIRST GROUP of responses were most positive. They thanked
80-20 for standing up for our community and its great effectiveness.

THE SECOND GROUP were from APAs who were puzzled over why
Chinaxxx was a bad term; some even accused 80-20 of being too
sensitive. A typical response was: "I was from China. I am a man.
What is wrong with being called a Chinaxxx? Why are Frenchman and
Englishman acceptable, but not Chinaxxx?"

Such questions probably came mostly from first generation
immigrants. Their puzzlement is most understandable. 80-20 uses
this occasion to let our diverse community -- from the 1st to perhaps
the 6th generation immigrants – know why the term Chinaman is
derogatory.

The English language is defined by its dictionaries, not by
individuals. The most authoritative dictionary in English is Webster.
Webster (10th edition) defines
N-gger: a black person - usu. taken to be offensive;
Chinaman: Chinese - often taken to be offensive.

The term "Chinaxxx" has a long & sad history in this country.
Chinaman didn't have a bad connotation a long time ago. It was
used just like Englishman and Frenchman. However, in 1853,
conviction of killers for the murder of Ling Sing was OVERturned on
the grounds that testimony from the "INFERIOR CASTE OF PEOPLE WHO
WERE NON-CITIZENS, " should be thrown out. It meant that Chinese
testimony against the whites was not admissible. Once that legal
precedent was set, the whites learnt that they could terrorize Chinese
without fear of legal consequences. Numerous such incidents
happened. Thereafter, the phrase "not a Chinaxxx's chance" was
coined, meaning "not much of a chance." The word "Chinaxxx"
became an offensive term to Chinese Americans and probably to all
Chinese.

LETTER OF APOLOGY FROM MR. STEVE KERR:

Mr. Steven Kerr who reacted to his inadvertent mistake admirably
just requested that I publicize his letter of apology. He told me that
he has reached Yao Ming who has accepted his apology. His letter
which reached me this morning, after his verbal apology of yesterday
is shown below. I hope that our entire community will now accept his
apology.

"Dear Mr. Woo,
First of all, let me apologize again for my mistake during
Monday night's telecast. I have felt horrible all day long today
knowing that I offended many people. I assure you I was
unaware that my choice of words was inappropriate, and in no
way did I use it maliciously. As I mentioned earlier, I was using
the term the same way I would use 'Frenchman' or 'Englishman',
and I was totally unaware that the word I used is a derogatory
one dating back to the 19th century.

I am ashamed of what happened, especially since I take great
pride in being extremely open minded and tolerant. I have
spent a good part of my life living in foreign countries and I
have respect for all cultures, races and religions. My sister in law
is Chinese American, and my brother in law is a respected
Chinese history scholar at Cambridge University in England.
One of my best friends, in fact, is also Chinese American. I called
them all today to explain what happened.

Anyway, I have already planned to apologize to Yao Ming, and
I will attempt to call him today. As you know he is a difficult
person to reach, but I will do my best to talk to him, or at least
to his interpreter Cxxxx Pxxx. I will let you know if I'm able to
contact Yao Ming. In the meantime, I wish you the best of luck
and I apologize again for this matter.

Also, thank you very much for not making this a public issue.
I realize that you have every right to do so, and the fact that
You have not is saving me great embarrassment. Thank you so
much for that. I will do my best to let people know that the
phrase I used is inappropriate because of the context in which it
was used in the past.

Yao Ming Called A Chinaxxx

Yesterday, Turner Broadcaster Steve Kerr described Ming Yao as a "7'6" Chinaman," during the Houston versus Memphis game. 80-20 induced a sincere apology within 3 hours.

(1) At 3:00 p.m. today, 80-20 obtained concrete evidence that Steve Kerr, a TNT broadcaster, described Ming Yao as a "7'6" Chinaman." At 4:15 p.m., 80-20- staff Jing-Li Yu left words with the secretary of TNT CEO, Philip I. Kent, that 80-20 President S. B. Woo wanted to be called regarding the incident.

At 5:45 p.m., TNT Senior VP Jeff Banky and Broadcaster Steve Kerr called S. B. at his home and apologized profusely. They asked him to in turn convey their apologies to the Asian American community. It seemed obvious that Kerr didn't know that Chinaman, unlike Frenchman and Englishman, was a derogatory term. S.B. accepted the apology with the condition that Mr. Kerr also called Ming Yao to apologize. S.B. also requested that Mr. Kerr to publicize, whenever appropriate, the impropriety of using derogatory terms in describing minorities. Mr. Kerr agreed. 80-20 TURNED A NEGATIVE CASE INTO A POSITIVE ONE IN 2 HOURS AND 45 MINUTES.

(2) A couple of months ago, General Wesley Clark also inadvertently used Chinaman together with the term Frenchman in an radio interview. Upon an e-mail from S. B., Gen. Clark called S.B. at his home to apologize. SB was impressed with General Clark's sincerity and his sensitivity towards minority concerns. Upon learning that S. B. requested Julia Wan, a new Board Member to work with the Army to delete the name. A month ago, Brigadier General Joseph Fil, Jr. e-mailed Julia stating "The computerized data base from which they (the maps in question) are produced has already been changed, and no longer contains the Chinaman's Hat moniker. (B) Grand Slam in winning over Dem. presidential candidates:

ALL viable Democratic presidential candidates responded to 80-20's
questionnaire with yes/yes/yes. They are, in order of promptness in
response, where (1) means the earliest:

(1) Congressman Dennis Kucinich, (2) Governor Howard Dean,
(3) Amb. Carol Braun (dropped out) (4) Senator John Edwards,
(5) General Wesley K. Clark, (6) Senator John Kerry
(7) Senator Joe Lieberman, and (8) Congressman Dick Gephardt

If a Democrat is elected the president in 2004, the federal
government will employ its immense power through Executive
Order 11246 to help Asian Americans break the glass ceiling. We
estimate that in 10 years the number of Asian Americans in the
Executive/Administrators rank will increase by a factor of 3 in
all mainstream corporations/ firms/ universities/ institutions/
governments.

Unfortunately, Mr. George W. Bush, the only Republican running
for president in 2004, has not yet responded to 80-20's questionnaire.

As a result, 80-20 urges Asian Americans to

(a) vote for any of the above 8 candidates during the Democratic
PRIMARY elections, taking into account their promptness in
answering the questionnaire
(b) withhold financial and other forms of support from Mr.
Bush's 2004 campaign until he has responded with yes/yes/yes to
80-20's questionnaire.

If Mr. Bush also answers yes/yes/yes, then, whoever gets elected in
Nov., our children will get equal opportunity in workplaces.

So hold firm. Don't contribute to Mr. Bush, UNTIL he responds
positively. Any APA who gives to his campaign before he responds
positively is hurting OUR CHILDREN'S chance to win equal opportunity!
PASS THAT MESSAGE.

The above rules do NOT apply in the GENERAL election. After
each major party has elected a nominee, 80-20 will hold an
Endorsement Convention. Delegates to the Convention will be elected
from and by our dues-paying members. The composition of Delegates
shall be 1/3 Republicans, 1/3 Independents and 1/3 Democrats. The
endorsement criteria shall be DEEDS done by either party in the
preceding 4 years, and the response to 80-20's questionnaire. For

Sen. Lieberman Said Yes/Yes/Yes Too!

SENATOR JOE LIEBERMAN OF CONNECTICUT just became the 7th of 9 Democratic presidential candidates to answer YES/YES/YES to 80- 20's questionnaire. The goal of shattering the glass ceiling through the enforcement of the Exec. Order 11246 is a step closer.

Here's how we induced Sen. Lieberman's signature. Two groups of 80-20 supporters deserve our particular thanks.

1. Our supporters in CONNECTICUT: They sent numerous faxes & e-
mails to Sen. Lieberman under the leadership of two 80-20 Board
members, Profs. Peter Luh & Jerry Yang, both of CT. They identified
themselves as citizens of CT & urged him to sign with yes/yes/yes.

2. Our supporters in NEW HAMPSHIRE: Upon the request of the
National 80-20, these supporters either personally confronted Sen.
Lieberman or his campaign staff in Meet The Candidates gatherings
or called his campaign headquarters in NH to request a positive
response from Sen. Lieberman.

Congressman Dick Gephardt still has not signed. WE LOOK TO our supporters IN MISSOURI & IOWA TO DELIVER Rept. Gephardt.

After that we'll focus in on getting President George W. Bush's positive response.
