Hepatitis Awareness That Saves Lives

Dear Fellow Asian Americans and other Friends,

May is both API Heritage Month and Hepatitis Awareness Month.  The dual observances bring attention to a problem disproportionately affecting Asian Americans:
  • AsAms are 5% the US population but 50% the estimated 1.2 million Americans living with chronic hepatitis B virus.
  • 1 in 12 AsAms are infected; ~15-40% of those could develop liver cirrhosis or cancer.
  • Most infected don’t know, because it can go decades without symptoms.
  • Long latency period can put your loved ones at risk, transmitting the disease to spouse and young children.
  • Vaccine is available, and has cut new infection by 95% since 1990.
  • Early diagnosis saves lives and protects health.

More information:

80-20 disseminates these vital statistics as a service to our community.  Serious health issues such as Hep B, as well as other issues of particular importance to AsAms, will not get the priority, attention and funding that they deserve without us FIRST acquiring political clout by acting in unity and vote as a bloc.  Only via the power of a bloc vote can a small minority like us make a decisive difference in the outcome of elections – and hence motivate politicians to court our votes by offering favorable legislation and other initiatives that address the long neglected needs of our community.

80-20 seeks to be a powerful catalyst for positive changes to our community.  We are only as strong as your support.  Please do your part to become dues-paying members!

Do your part to get us heard at the Supreme Court!

Dear Fellow Asian Americans and other Friends,

Have you ever known an Asian Am. organization that is as gutsy and faithful as 80-20 in serving your interest???

Or are we simply delusional? The single person, who anonymously posted ~40 negative messages on the EF blog, claimed the silent 15 million AsAms are with him, secretly longing for race conscious college admissions. 50,000+ survey participants DO NOT count, he demanded, stop representing AsAms. His view, through his allies, would be registered with the Supreme Court as the voice of the AsAms if 80-20 does not file our brief advocating "race-neutral, merit-based" college admission. Do you now understand why AsAm interests are often short changed? The May 28 filing deadline is looming, are you willing to do your part? We can fight for your interest because we are financially supported directly by individuals like you. We do not take outside funding that can cloud our judgment.

Tell us you support our Amicus brief at the Supreme Court by joining 80-20 as dues-paying members, or tell us to stop.

Don’t Donate to Either Party Yet

Dear Fellow Asian Americans and other Friends,

Don't give $$$ to any presidential candidates yet. Wait till 80-20 has endorsed one of the two. When we act as a bloc, we'll have political clout, i.e. our voice listened to!

Jewish Americans are very effective because they can swing 8:2 bloc votes specific to candidates and issues.  Their population is only 40% of that of Asian Americans, or 2% of the general population. Result: Their voice is heard loud and clear. Why are we still a pile of sand?

80-20 will hold the politicians accountable through a written and enforceable pledge to our community (*More details below). http://www.80-20initiative.net/news/preselect2012_questionaire.asp

We multiplied our political clout through our Doubling Champaign last year. Will you help sustain the momentum by renewing or upgrading your 80-20 membership?

* For the candidates, the winning formula is to harvest what is in abundance (the Poor's votes and the Rich's money) and do so with the least liability (commitment). A core mission of 80-20 is to hold them accountable to our community through a carrot and stick approach. As early as a decade ago, 80-20 was rated as the 2nd most effective cyber organization by "Click on Democracy", a book written by three non-Asian Am authors
http://www.amazon.com/Click-On-Democracy-Internets-Political/dp/0813340055

Here is how it worked in 2008: We asked each candidate to commit in writing to an enforceable list of Asian American concerns. Initially none responded. However, we induced Clinton to pledge ALL YES to our questionnaire when she is under pressure from Obama. We issued a call for action to defeat Obama which induced Obama to pledge his support to our community. We then campaigned for Obama to defect McCain who never answered seriously. Check out the approach and Obama's delivery records at

In the 2012, neither Romney nor Obama has answered our updated questionnaire, are you going to reward them with your donation or votes? Do you negotiate before shopping or after you have already paid?
