Thanks to all of you, together we got the "impossible feat" done - getting Pres. Trump to stop using the term "Chinese virus" in 4 days.
How many of us thought the feat was possible when 80-20 first announced that it might start a "Demand Apology or Reject Trump, DART" project? But WE DID IT. It was your generous donations plus supportive comments together with 80-20 SuperPAC's political know-how that DID IT.
Some Offered Differing Views
A very small % of our supporters were NOT happy. Their views fall into 2 categories:
1) Mission has NOT been accomplished, since Pres. Trump did NOT apologize.
80-20's view: True he has NOT apologized. However, 80-20 has NOT launched its DART project yet. We were just using the "testing the waters for DART" as "a shot across the bow" for candidateTrump. We wanted the candidate to know that if he didn't stop using the term "Chinese virus", then we would actively work against his election, starting as early as March. He stopped! So our mission was accomplished. Good politics is subtle.
2) A few individuals asked, "Why don't you start the DART project anyway, although candidate Trump has stopped using the term? One reason they gave was that Sec. of State Pompeo has insisted on using "Wuhan virus" at the UN.
80-20's view: 80-20's mission is to help AsAms achieve equal justice and equal opportunity. 80-20 must be wise in its political decisions. Candidate Trump's continued usage of "Chinese virus" would continually incite and increase street violence against AsAms, particularly Chinese Ams. Hence, 80-20 SuperPAC must step in to ask Trump to stop using the term or face our backlash.
The quarrel between the US and China at the UN is for China to handle. As a general word of advice to our community: Don't take China's side in such conflicts between nations. THINK!!! What is the implication of taking China's side, if the US and China came to armed conflict? We heard that some AsAm politicians have taken the China side in this quarrel. We are not sure if they've thought it through. They could get ASAMS in trouble in the future.
Some unthinking individuals even argued that they would rather prefer Trump's continued usage of "Chinese virus" than 80-20's decision NOT to start DART. THINK! Will there be more street violence against the 20 million AsAms, if Pres. Trump keeps on using "Chinese Virus"? Do we care? We ourselves could become victims of violence! Are these individuals' passion in partisan politics out of line? These are teachable moments.
Thanking You From the Bottom of Our Hearts
About 95% of our readers really praised 80-20 for what it has accomplished for our community. Click on (1), (2), or (3), to see respectively the comments that came in after our recent 3 e-newsletters entitled:
Three days ago, 80-20 SuperPAC declared that it might roll out a political action program called "Demand Apology or Reject Trump", DART. The program would begin with a full-page ad carrying an open letter to Pres. Trump. The ad would demand that candidate Trump stop using the term "Chinese Virus" and apologize within 3 days. Otherwise 80-20 SuperPAC would take political action to defeat him in 2020. The DART program would recruit up to 10,000 supporters who would donate $5 to $100 per week for a war chest that could reach $2,000,000. However, if candidate Trump would apologize by May 31, such action would cease,s and the donated money would be returned to donors.
About 2 hours after 80-20's e-newsletter went to 125,000 AsAm supporters, Pres. Trump made amends by issuing 2 tweets and making a press conference statement: "It is very important that we totally protect our Asian American community in the United States, and all around the world," Trump tweeted Monday evening. "They are amazing people, and the spreading of the Virus (...) is NOT their fault in any way, shape, or form. They are working closely with us to get rid of it. WE WILL PREVAIL TOGETHER!"
Two days ago, 80-20 SuperPAC issued an e-newsletter entitled "Victory?". It reported candidate Trump's recent amends to the AsAm community and would therefore "suspend its DART project, unless he uses the term "Chinese virus" again."
Many hours later, Pres. Trump said to many reporters that "he'd no longer call it the "Chinese virus"". Thank you, Mr. President. Mission accomplished!
Many valiant individuals (Congresspersons Ted Lieu, Judy Chu, and Grace Meng) and organizations (JCPA, C-100 and OCA) issued respective statements asking Pres. Trump not to use the term "Chinese virus." One heroic individual, Michelle Huang, started a petition site asking Pres. Trump to apologize. We would like to apologize to those who might have made similar efforts of which 80-20 is not aware.
An EFFECTIVE AsAm Political Action Committee is Needed.
Politics is rough and tumble. Actions that reward and punish are always needed. Search you memory please. Did a single AsAm organization take political action against candidate Trump, except for 80-20 SuperPAC?
Next, if the anti-AsAm violence on the street doesn't abate, we'll see what 80-20 can do. Thank you.
80-20 SuperPAC released its "Demand Apology or Reject Trump", DART"e-newsletter at 3:51pm EDT. It received phenomenal support from our community - money and support rolled in. Click here to visit our Poster Board on DART. You'll be delighted.
Result? Whether by effectiveness or accident, about 2 hours later, Pres. Trump made amends to our community.
"It is very important that we totally protect our Asian American community in the United States, and all around the world," Trump tweeted Monday evening. "They are amazing people, and the spreading of the Virus (...) is NOT their fault in any way, shape, or form. They are working closely with us to get rid of it. WE WILL PREVAIL TOGETHER!"
At his 6 pm EDT press conference, Pres. Trump essentially repeated the same statements. Click here to hear it yourself. The specific statement at the AsAm community begins at 40 seconds into the video.
In view of Pres.Trump's recent amends, 80-20 SuperPAC shall suspend its DART project, unless he uses the term "Chinese virus" again. If Pres. Trump does NOT use the term again, then it is indeed a victory for us. :-)
Other Similar Efforts That 80-20 is Aware of
1) JCPA (Jewish Council for Public Affairs committee) has organized manyJewish and AsAms groups to together sign a letter to Pres. Trump. It very diplomatically asked him to stop using the term "Chinese virus". To see the letter, click here. 80-20 Educational Foundation name is at the very top of along list of 50+ organizations. To the best of my knowledge, that letter went out at 6 pm yesterday.
2) AsAm Congressman Ted Lieu has been very outspoken opposing Pres. Trump's use of the term "Chinese virus" since a few days ago.
3) Michelle Huang started a petition asking Pres. Trump to apologize more
than a week ago, aiming to get 150k signers. Currently it is at about the
130,000 level. To see the petition and/or to sign it, click here.
We apologize to other individuals and orgs. which may be making similar efforts that 80-20 doesn't know about. Thank you for doing your share.
80-20 SuperPAC is considering buying a full-page ad in the Washington Post to respectfully request Pres. Trump to stop using the term "Chinese virus" and apologize to our community. If he ignores our request, then we intend to start raising funds to defeat him in the 2020 election, regardless of who his Democratic opponent may be.
The following is a DRAFT. We want to use today's e-newsletter to test the water for our battle plan. Please email me via email@example.com your feedback in the form (a) I'll greatly support, (b) I'll donate and (c) I don't like this battle plan. We worked extremely hard for you. Please do your share to respond in either (a) or (b) or (c).
There are those who believe that you are setting up a straw man to blame in order to avoid your responsibility of mishandling the crisis in the initial stage of the pandemic. We choose not to share this view. Instead we appeal to your human decency to stop using "Chinese virus", apologize to the Asian American community publicly and let the nation know that while the virus started in China, it is NOT a "Chinese virus."
We'll await your response. Without hearing from you in the next 3 days, we'll employ the only measure left to us in a democracy. We'll start a "Demand Apology or Reject Trump "fundraising program, DART, to defeat you in the 2020 election. However, if you deliver a satisfactory apology by May 31, 2020, we'll stop the DART effort. Indeed, we'll pledge here and now that we'll return the raised funds to donors, and will not hold this particular affront against you in the 2020 election.

Should we decide to place this ad, 80-20 SuperPAC will use this space and our huge email list to recruit 1,000 to 10,000 persons who will pledge to donate in one of the following graduated donation amounts. It starts at $5 per week increasing in 5 steps to $100 per week. Your donation will continue until Pres. Trump has delivered a satisfactory apology by May 31, 2020, or the day of 2020 general election. We estimate that our war chest will grow to a range of $140,000 to $2,000,000. If Pres.Trump responds in time, your donation will be returned to you.
The raised amount will reflect upon our community's caring for our dignity and the welfare of ourselves and our children. All donors' names and their respective donated amounts will be posted on our website. Historians will view the names & evaluate us.
Don't be a weakling. Stand up for ourselves. Do your share!
