We deeply appreciate your faith in 80-20

                 Two Minor Items

1) Stock Donations to 80-20 to simplify your Tax Problems

Once you've transferred your stocks to 80-20 EF, a 501 c3 organization, your tax problems are over.  80-20 shall send you a letter stating the worth of your donation on the date of stocks' arrival.  Or if the stock price is NOT listed daily, EF shall send you a letter stating the estimated worth of your stocks.  Please get in touch with Kathleen To  <kto@tstar.net> who will assist you.  We'll of course be very grateful for your donations.

2)  Your Gmail Problem:

If you use gmail, you may find 80-20's e-newsletter in the "promotion" box.  There are 2 ways to deal with it.
a) Drag 80-20's e-newsletter in your "promotion" box into you Inbox.  This should fix the problem for good.
b) Eliminate your "promotion" box altogether.

               Important Drives

1) Drive SELF to at least $900,000/yr for 5 years:
We need 21 generous individuals to each give $1000/yr for 5 yrs, or 42 donors to each give $500/yr. Please click here to DONATE generously to SELF.

2) Petition To Pres. Obama, if successful, will be of immense benefit to us:
Please sign the Petition at http://wh.gov/in72s and urge all your friends to sign too.

Great News

Will 80-20 PAC Live?

                           80-20 Polled ALL SELF donors

80-20 promised to refund all donations when requested, if SELF failed to reach $1 million/yr for 5 yrs by Oct 25, 2015.  With the deadline only one month away, 80-20 polled all SELF donors to prepare for all eventualities.

SELF will likely end up around $900k/yr on Oct. 25, 2015 which may be sufficient to maintain an effective 80-20 operation.  The current total is $877,000/yr for 5 years.  However, many donors may want their money back, resulting in inadequate funding for an effective operation of 80-20 Initiative. Hence, 80-20 polled to find out the likely amount of money left in SELF, after all requests for refunds will have been honored.   The following 2-question poll was sent.

"1. Please circle the donor group that you belong to.
        a) $10k/yr for 5 yrs. or more                   b) $5k/yr or more
        c) $2.5k/yr or more                                 d) $1k/yr or more
        f) $500/yr or more                                   g) $100/yr or more
        h) more than $500 in lump sum              i) less than $500 in lump sum
2. Select the least stringent condition that you'll tolerate and not ask for your money back.  Please be truthful.
    a) SELF is $10,000/yr or less than the targeted $1 million/yr for 5 yrs,
    b) SELF is $100,000/yr or less below the targeted $1 million/yr for 5 yrs,
    c) SELF is slightly more than $850,000/yr for 5 yrs only,
    d) Whatever number SELF ends up in on 10/25/2015,  I'd rather 80-20 keep the money, and continue to fight for us as a PAC.

We'll publicize the poll results, so that all donors will know why 80-20 will choose to die or live."

                           Great  News.

Donors responded with extraordinary generosity & faith in 80-20 which deeply touched 80-20's leadership.

1468 donors were polled 3 days ago.  By now, 223 donors had replied, accounting for 15.1% of those polled.  An 8% return is considered "statistically reliable."

The BIG donors, those contributing $2,500/yr and more, were polled repeatedly, because their decision to ask for refunds will have a larger impact on 80-20's decision to live or die.  For example, all nine donors who have donated more than 10,000/yr for 5 yrs, including Prof Mu-ming Poo, have elected to let 80-20 keep the money regardless of the amount of total money raised.

        1
2a: (keep the money if
990K/yr were
raised)
2b: (keep the money if
900K/yr were
raised)
2c: (keep the money if
850K/yr were
raised)
2d (keep $ & fight for us)
A:10k/yr  & up9
B: 5k/yr & up
4
C:2.5k/y & up1117
D:1k/yr & up131
F: 500/yr & up136
G:100/yr & up31591
H: $500 lump sum & up7
I: $500 lump sum or less114

The above result implies that if SELF ends up raising about $900k/yr for 5 yrs. on Oct. 25, then SELF will still have more than 850k/yr for 5 year left, after all requests to refund will have been honored.

To make sure that I counted the responses accurately, donors' replies were submitted to Prof. Larry Ho to verify.   He will (1) verify my counts and (2) randomly email some donors to make sure that they indeed replied to the poll as I have reported.   After the above poll results are verified, 80-20's leadership will vote to decide whether 80-20 Initiative shall live or die.

Please click here to DONATE generous to help SELF reach $900K/yr for 5 yrs.

Together, we shall overcome

Dear leaders of the Asian American community:

The petition benefits our community greatly

If the following 80-20 petition at http://wh.gov/in72s succeeds, our community will have everything to gain and nothing to lose.

It'll stop profiling by race and national origin against Asian-Americans, since it seems certain that this is the only way that Pres. Obama can answer our petition. It'll help us be equal citizens of the USA.  In addition, it'll help establish our political clout by demonstrating the unity of the Asian-/Chinese-American community, because no petition to President Obama has ever succeeded.

Two other Chinese-Am petitions "succeeded," although they were not proper petitions since they asked Pres. Obama to do things that were NOT within his power.  Here is the petition:

            "Dear President Obama:

We, the undersigned, agree with your decision  to aggressively investigate and prosecute the stealing of government and corporate secrets.  However, judging from the terrible injustice and harm done to Sherry Chen and Professor Xiaoxing Xi, your policy has been abused.
Aggressiveness has seemingly been interpreted as permission to be careless; worse, perhaps, as permission to use race and national origin for profiling - practices which we rejected even at the height of the anti-terrorists investigations soon after 9/11.
We respectfully request that you instruct the Department of Justice that due diligence and due process must be followed, and that racial and national origin profiling is not permitted.
We also feel strongly that there ought to be apologies to and compensations for the victims to make them whole.

              Respectfully,

              The undersigned"

                             Sharing leadership and credit

The credit for the success of the petition will be shared by all participating organizations, to be listed alphabetically.  Our name shall be Eighty-twenty (80-20) Initiative, instead of 80-20 Initiative. With "e" as the first alphabet of our name, it'll show up somewhere in the middle of a list of many organizations.

"There is no fear except fear itself" - Franklin D. Roosevelt

Some claim that the lack of a response from our community is because our folks are afraid to criticize a government policy.  They pointed to the fact the two earlier "successful" petitions were directed at non-federal-government entities, while this time we are criticizing the Department of Justice.  If so, we truly don't understand the USA where the freedom of speech is absolute.   In addition, we are truly cowards for not willing to stand up for our rights.   Look at 80-20's Board Members and me, we have taken a stance on so many different issues.   Has any bad consequence befallen us?  STAND UP and give our children a brighter future.

Respectfully yours,

Beware of the Bad Consequences, if Petition Fails

Our petition to President Obama is falling behind schedule.   If it fails, there could be bad consequences. The following Q & A is to help us understand the intent of our petition and the possible bad consequences, if it fails.

Q:  Is the petition proper?
A:  This petition is judiciously worded.
     a) This petition, unlike the previous "Jimmy Kimmel" and "College Admissions" petitions, addresses a matter over which Pres. Obama has direct authority and therefore must  answer.  Indeed, chances are Pres. Obama will answer positively.
     b) Only people who want to steal America's national and corporate secrets will want to oppose the first sentence in the petition;
     c) Only people who want to use race and/or national origin to profile Asian-/Chinese-Ams will hope for our petition to fail;
     d) Only people who believe that Sherry Chen & Prof Xi don't deserve an apology & compensation will hope for our petition to fail.
Q: Does the petition go far enough?
A:  Some may want the petition to ask for the punishment of DOJ personnel associated with the careless investigations.  Cool it please.  Let's  get the apology & compensations to make the victims whole first.
Q: How will a successful petition benefit us?
A:  If successful, Pres. Obama will have to stay that race and national origin profiling is not permitted in the investigation of stealing of secrets.

Focusing our community's attention on the abuse of Pres. Obama's advocacy to "aggressively investigate and prosecute" is the best way to prevent future abuse.
Q:  What BAD consequences will occur, if the petition fails?
(a) If the "Jimmy Kimmel" petition can quickly get 100,000 signatories and this one can't, it could be interpreted that Asian Ams don't mind "race and national origin" profiling.   Note: profiling by national origin will likely hurt the recent immigrants  from China the most.
(b) Worse, the "Jimmy Kimmel" petition which was improperly directed to Pres. Obama, was mostly supported by recent immigrants from China.  The lack of support for the current petition by the same group could induce some "China hands" in DOJ to conjecture that many among the recent immigrants from China may be secretly against  the first sentence of the current petition which approves of Pres. Obama's policy "to  aggressively investigate and prosecute the stealing of America's national and corporate secrets."

An Appeal To All Asian Americans
80-20 is an Asian Am organization.  We will aid any AsAm community under siege. To take the view that one will only respond to 80-20's programs when it directly benefits one' s own ethnic group is to take a very short-sighted view. I appeal to all Asian Ams to support the current petition. Go to http://wh.gov/in72s  in a new browser, and sign it TODAY.

         " Dear President Obama:

We Can Deliver an Implicit but Powerful Message to Pres. Obama

What if we achieved the 100,000 signature requirement faster than anyone has ever done and set a record that can't be broken for years?

Wouldn't that send an implicit but extremely powerful message to Pres. Obama about the depth of our resentment against the apparent ABUSE of his sound policy to aggressively investigate and prosecute the stealing of national and corporate secrets?

80-20 Is the Solution

Will WE Allow These Bad Deeds to Recur?

Sherry Chen was arrested for stealing government secrets.  She was handcuffed, and paraded before her colleagues. The media reported her arrest as a spy far and wide. Then her case was dropped for the lack of evidence by our government, without apology and/or compensation for damages to her career, reputation, and psychological health. Her misfortune inspired a well-read NY Times article: "Accused for Spying for China, until she Wasn't."

Recently, Prof. XiChair of Physics Dept., Temple Univ. was arrested for stealing corporate secrets.  He emailed a sophisticated schematics of equipment to his colleagues in China, which the government suspected to be related to superconductor search called "pocket heater". He was handcuffed, led to the door past his wife and two daughters.

However, the government's damning evidence against Xi turned out to be the damning evidence against the government. Even the inventor of "pocket heater" technology testified that the schematics was not related to "pocket heater." The case was dropped, without apology and/or compensation for damages to his career, reputation, and psychological health.  The government didn't practice "due diligence" - consulting an expert on "pocket heater" before making the accusation and arrest.  Click here for a NYT article.

Beware this could happen to any Asian Americans, particular Chinese Ams.
Your neck is in it!

What could be causes of such bad deeds against us?
Three possible causes.

(1) Government incompetence.  Due diligence was not practiced.
(2) Intentional government abuse of power.  The Justice Dept. could be
intentionally adopting  an intimidation tactics in order to produce a chilling
effect against ALL persons of Chinese/Asian descent in order to stop
real or imagined pervasive stealing of government and corporate secrets.
President Obama was possibly at fault for urging aggressive espionage
investigations and prosecutions, without demanding "due diligence."
(3) A combination of (1) and (2).

How to Stop such Improper Government Practices
[a] If those arrests were attempts to induce Asian/Chinese Ams to distance
from our respective "old countries" thereby limiting our rights, 80-20
President S. B. Woo had already written Attorney General Lynch,
since 2 months ago,  to investigate it.  Woo stated that the
"Asian Ams have the complete freedom to communicate, visit with, and
help people of our restive "old countries," He asked AG Lynch to advise, if
otherwise.   DOJ replied that it'll "review and reply within 60 business days"
if it doesn't agree with Woo's statement.
The letter together with Woo's earlier inquiry regarding Sherry Chen, asking
if race was an element in the prosecution of Sherry Chen have started
thousand of interviews within DOJ, according to a reliable government
source. 80-20 viewed these reported interviews as a good sign.  It might
even have indirectly cause the dropping of the case against Prof Xi.

[b]  80-20 is considering starting a White House petition.  It'll respectfully
request President Obama to instruct  DOJ to practice "due diligence and
procedure" while aggressively investigating and prosecuting
possible espionage cases.  In addition, we respectfully request that he will
instruct DOJ to apologize and compensate the victims of careless
investigations."  We are certain that we'll get 100,000 signatures.
Indeed, this will be a petition that President Obama shall answer, unlike
      previous ones.

[c] Donate to SELF so as to keep 80-20 alive.  It is sooooo clear that our
community needs 80-20 political know how to protect our rights under
      toddy's circumstances..

Click here to donate today.  The clock is ticking!  Together, we shall overcome.
