See How Many DID THEIR SHARE

80-20 urged its supporters to pour in faxes and e-mails to President Bush and the 4 major Senators he will consult for his next Supreme Court nominee. We first sent a poll to 15,000 activists 2 weeks ago to ask them if the Asian American Coalition for Equal Justice (AACEJ), in which 80-20 is one member and EQUAL PARTNER, should push for a Supreme Court nominee. WITHIN ONE WEEK, 1/5 RESPONDED! Today, we have over 3,500 POSITIVE responses.

We then asked our supporters to fax and e-mail President Bush and the 4 Senators to let them know about the 5 candidates our supporters picked in the poll. LOOK AT HOW MANY DID THEIR SHARE! Hundreds more poured in their faxes, but below is a sample of the faxes, e-mails, and reports to us that were sent.

Dear President George Bush and Honorable Senators,

I understand that only 8 of the 839 judges in Federal courts are Asian Americans (AsAms). The AsAms are not well represented at all in our federal court. I strongly believe qualified AsAms deserves considerations.

Here are five of the outstanding AsAMs candidates, each merits Nomination

[names omitted]

for your consideration as the next Supreme Court Justice.

I support the campaign of "AsAm Coalition for Equal Justice" (AACEJ), of which 80-20 is one member, to increase AsAm representation in Federal Courts, including the Supreme Court.

Thank you for your attention.

Yours respectfully,

Bik-Kee Vuong, Radiochemist, National Institutes of Health

I sent letter to these people yesterday.

Sincerely,

Vo Nguyen, M.D.

I received your "call to action" which I will do as outlined in your
message. But let me go on record that I presented to you an alternate
Nominee, "The Honorable Justice JOYCE LUTHER KINNARD of the Supreme
Court of the State of
California since the 1980ties". She is an
Eurasian Woman of Dutch, Indonesian and Chinese parentage. She is as
qualified as any of those Asian Lawyers that you have named earlier.

Thanks and regards.

Dear fellow Chinese and members of the Gulfcoast Chinese-American Association,

We have a historic window of opportunity to push for an Asian American supreme court nominee. Although our chance of success is not high, the successful outcome of this goal is crucially important in enhancing equality for Asian American minorities for generations to come. This is all the more why I earnestly request that each and everyone of you to please INVEST an hour of your time to respond to the following call for action from SB Woo of 80-20.

We can make it happen if we all work together in a unified and concerted effort. If not this time, certainly by the next. As Lao Tse said, “A Journey of 1000 miles begins with the first step.” It is high time we get started.

Recall the struggles of African Americans for civil rights. It wasn’t easy, but it had to be done. We sit today on the shoulders of giants like Martin Luther King who helped advance the fight for equality for minorities. The task is unfinished. Today, Asian Americans are up against the “glass ceiling” across all sectors of private industry, government and academia. It is time for YOU to carry the torch and do your part for the greater good of this nation.

Mahatma Gandhi said, “You must be the change you wish to see in the world”

Please join 80-20 and your fellow Asian Americans in this worthy campaign. A sample letter from me to President Bush can be found at the end of this email.

Thank you for answering the call to action!

Sincerely,

Dr. Edward Lin, President & CEO, Ingenious Technologies Corp.

Dear President Bush,

I think that Asian Americans (AsAms) have been under-represented in
the top levels of corporations and government, including the US Supreme Court.
For example, only eight of the 839 judges in the U.S. Federal courts are Asian
Americans. I think the numbers speak for themselves.

Now that there is an opening in the U.S. Supreme Court, it is time to
select an AsAm, since there are several well-qualified AsAm legal experts with
qualifications that are suitable to be a U.S. Supreme Count Justice. For example:

[names omitted and statement for AACEJ omitted]

I think you will be doing great justice if you would appoint the first
AsAm to be a Supreme Court Justice.

Thank you.

The Honorable George W. Bush
President
United States of
America

Dear Mr. President:

As you consider the important task of nominating the next Supreme Court justice, May I respectfully urge you to consider the following exceptionally qualified Asian American candidates:

A. Wallace Tashima, Senior Judge, Court of Appeals, 9th Circuit:

Harold Hongju Koh, Dean of the Yale School of Law

Robert A. Takasugi, Senior District Judge, Central District of California.

Denny Chin, District Judge, Southern District of NY,
Ronald S. W. Lew, District Judge, Central Dist. Of CA
Anthony C. Ching, Solicitor General of AZ,

As an individual committed to advance equality and justice in America, you may be surprised to know that while Asian Americans represent 4% of the US population, only 8 of the 839 judges in Federal courts are Asian Americans (0.95%). These numbers speak for themselves and cry out for action to the conscience of all who believe in the American system of equality and fairness for all. I beseech you to help heal the wounds that inequality has caused, and use this historic opportunity to nominate an Asian American to the US Supreme Court.

Mr. President, I support the campaign of "Asian American Coalition for Equal Justice" (AACEJ), of which 80-20 is one member, to increase Asian American representation in Federal Courts, including the Supreme Court. Thank you for your consideration of our earnest request.

Dear President George Bush:

May you consider Harold Hongju Koh, Dean of Yale law School, a
Korean American as your nominee for the next Supreme Court Justice? He
served in both Republican and Democratic Administrations.

Federal courts are Asian Americans. Qualified Asian Americans deserve
consideration.

I support the campaign of "Asian American Coalition for Equal
Justice" (AACEJ) to increase Asian American representation in Federal

Wenjun Jiang, Pharmacoepidemiology Fellow

Dear Senator Specter:

As an Asian American professional in higher education, I believe that the time has come that the Asian American community in this country now should have sufficient representations in the legal branch of the government, especially in the Supreme Court. As of this time, among the 839 judges in the Federal Courts, there are only 8 Asian American judges. Does It mean that there isn't any qualified Asian Americans in the legal field? Of course not, for example, the Dean of the Yale Law School, Harold Hongju Koh who has served both in the Republican as well as Democratic administrations, could anyone say that he is not qualified to be a Supreme Court Justice? Another example is Anthony C. Ching, the first ever Solicitor General in the state of Arizona, both his training
and experience easily qualify him to be a good Supreme Court Justice.

May I recommend to you for consideration one of the two to be a candidate of the second vacated position in the Supreme Court. This is only fair and proper thing to do in this time of our nation's history. May God bless America.

Respectfully,

Richard Yungdeh Chu

This is what I will be faxing to the 5 names:

Dear XXXX,

I would sincerely like to nominate the following candidates for your
next Supreme Court Justice based on their OUTSTANDING achievements and
qualification.

If you observe the number of Asian American faces you meet on a daily
basis, and the number in each neighborhood, in each school, in each
business, "8 out of 839 judges are Asian Americans" is a MOCKERY and a
clear message to Asian Americans that - WE CAN CO-EXIST WITH YOU, WE
CAN USE YOUR SERVICE, WE CAN EVEN HAVE YOU OVER FOR DINNER, BUT "WE DO
NOT RECOGNISE YOU - AND WE ARE NOT GIVING YOU CREDIT AND FAIRNESS".

I IMPLORE you, to give consideration and support the campaign of "AsAm Coalition for Equal Justice (AACEJ) of which 80-20 IS ONE MEMBER, to increase AsAm representation in Federal Courts, including the Supreme

Court of this GREAT COUNTRY OF THE UNITED STATES.

and 30% the chance in the Federal government (86,000
AsAm workers), as compared with that of an average Am.
worker in the same positions i.e. THE NATIONAL AVERAGE. "

Q1 Who will benefit?

When AsAm's chance to rise to the top equals that of the national
average, then

(a) In "private industries," 130,500 ADDITIONAL AsAms will
be promoted to "officials and managers". An additional 1.8
million will benefit knowing that they will enjoy equal
opportunity to rise to the top starting from then on.
(b) In "universities," 4889 additional AsAms will be promoted to
administrators; 70,000 will benefit in future chance for
promotions.
(c) In the Fed. Gov. 240 additional AsAms will be promoted to the
SES rank; 80,000 will benefit in future chance of promotions.

Another 11 million AsAms will benefit indirectly because a rising tide
raises all ships. To understand how the above numbers are attained, visit
Table 2: http://www.80-20initiative.net/attachmentA.jpg

IN SUMMARY: 2.1 million AsAms will benefit directly. Another 11 million
Asams will benefit indirectly. Future generations of AsAms will benefit.
America will benefit! In extending equal opportunity in workplaces to
AsAms, America becomes "a more perfect Union."

Q2 Will 80-20 take actions or just talk?

80-20 will work with all who share our cause & take decisive actions.
But we want the AsAm community to be thoroughly aware of the relevant facts
first. Please hold your horse for now. But get ready!

2.1 million AsAms will benefit directly. Another million Asams will benefit
indirectly. Future generations of AsAms will benefit. America will
benefit. In extending equal opportunity in workplaces to AsAms, America
becomes "a more perfect Union."

Q3 Is 80-20 picking on Labor Secretary Elaine Chao?

NO, not at all! Exec. Order 11246 specifically states that the
enforcement of EO 11246 is the responsibility of the Labor Department, which
is under the administration of Sec. Chao. So if we want EO 11234 enforced
on our behalf, we must communicate with or appeal to Sec. Chao.

As a public servant, she has the OBLIGATION to
EITHER point out 80-20 is in error in its understanding of the government
data OR go to bat for AsAms by enforcing EO 11246.

Q4 Was it racism that has caused the following statistics?

Race is not the issue. Any group in America that doesn't have the
"group political clout" has gotten, is getting and will get discriminated.
That was evident in American history in the treatment of the Irish, Polish,
and Italians when they first immigrated to the USA. That was also clear in
seeing how Jews, women, African Americans, gays, & Hispanics were treated
then and now. Our lack of GROUP political clout is why we suffered and
still suffer discrimination!

Winning Equal Opportunity (1)

Dear Fellow Asian Americans:

Here is the striking information about the glass ceiling over us. 80-
20 has FORMALLY presented the information, established after months of
intensive studies, to Labor Secretary Elaine Chao. YOU MUST READ IT. If we
want to enjoy EQUAL OPPORTUNITY, we must ALL work on it. 80-20 by itself is
NOT strong enough.

Respectfully,
S. B. Woo
President, The 80-20 PAC, Inc.

- - - - - - -

2.1 million AsAms work for "private industries," or "universities" or
"the Federal government," as defined by the Fed. Government. They have the
WORST chance to rise to the top, when compared with Whites, Blacks,
Hispanics, Native Americans, and women. Here is what 80-20 has reported to
Sec. Chao and asked for help:

"Asian Americans have only 55% of the chance to rise to the top rank in
the private Industries (1.9 million AsAm workers), 41% of the chance in the
universities (70,000 AsAm workers), and 30% the chance in the Federal
government (86,000 AsAm workers), as compared with that of an average Am.
worker in the same positions i.e. the national average. "

Woo also informed Sec. Chao that the above conclusions were drawn from
"federal government data, easily accessible on WEB sites:
http://www.gao.gov/new.items/d0334.pdf ,
http://www.eeoc.gov/stats/jobpat/2002/us.html,
http://nces.ed.gov/programs/digest/d03/tables/dt227.asp , and
http://nces.ed.gov/programs/digest/d03/tables/dt228.asp "

In addition, Woo provided Sec. Chao with two charts for a quick view of
how poorly AsAms have fared as compared with Whites, African Americans,
Hispanics, Native Americans, women, and the national averages. Even the
exact data used, and the simple calculations which lead to the conclusions
stated in paragraph 3 were provided to Sec. Chao through 4 tables. For the
charts and the letter to Secretary Chao, please visit
http://www.80-20initiative.net/Chao051505.doc
For the tables: http://www.80-20initiative.net/attachmentA.jpg

After 3 months, Sec. Chao has not replied. Perhaps, her office is
carefully studying the information provided to her. We are certain that
Sec. Chao knows that she has the OBLIGATION to either point out why 80-20 is
wrong or go to bat for the millions of AsAms using Executive Order 11246.

What is Executive Order 11246? Here is an exact quote from a 2003
Department of Labor document (Pam. OFCCP 7), entitled "Three Decades of
Commitment To Nondiscrimination & Equal Employment Opportunity"

"Executive Order 11246, as amended
This order, signed by President Lyndon B. Johnson
in 1965, prohibits discrimination in hiring or
employment opportunities on the basis of race, color,
gender, religion, and national origin. It applies to all
contractors and subcontractor holding any federally
assisted contracts worth more then $10,000.

In addition, the Executive Order requires contractors
and subcontractors with a contract of $50,000 or
more, and 50 or more employees, to develop a written
affirmative action program, that sets forth specific and
result-oriented procedures to which a contractor
commit itself to apply every good faith effort. "

80-20 aims to win EQUAL opportunity in workplaces for you and your
children. Watch out for "Winning Equal Op. - 2" in a few days.

Updating You; Announcements

1) On the Supreme Court Justice (SCJ) Front:

80-20 was aware of the immense implications of a NEW SCJ early!
Since 10/2004, 80-20 has plugged for an AsAm SCJ. Hence, once there
was a vacancy, many media and elected officials contacted 80-20
regarding qualified AsAm candidates for SCJ. 80-20 did a lot of raising
of internal and external awareness of the benefits of an AsAm SCJ.
Since there was only one vacancy, the odds for an AsAm SCJ were not
great. However, 80-20 will keep a keen lookout & seize every
opportunity to win EQUAL JUSTICE for the 13 million AsAms. Please
do your share.

2) Our Earlier Announcement to AsAm IEEE Members Led to Success!

James M. Tien, an 80-20 Life Member, wanted to run for IEEE President
again, since he was narrowly defeated the last time. So he wanted
IEEE members to petition for him. 80-20 announced his petition site.
He got 3000 petitioners owing to various efforts. As a result, he will
be on the ballot for 2006 IEEE President-Elect. Hopefully, he'll make
history and help break the glass ceiling. Find out more at

Next Supreme Court Justice an Asian Am?

Fellow Asian Americans, aim high! Be bold! Help achieve a
common vision!

Supreme Court Justice Sandra O'Conner has just resigned.
President Bush could nominate a replacement as early as mid-July.
Could he be nominating the FIRST EVER ASIAN AM. candidate?

Not likely in this round. But it's not impossible, especially
if Chief Justice Rehnquist resigns also and President Bush will be
sending TWO names to the Senate! In that case, Bush will likely
nominate one conservative and one moderate. Many highly qualified
AsAms jurists are ideal replacements.

Our qualified jurists include 2 Circuit Court Justices: Ronald S.
W. Lew and A. Wallace Tashima; and 7 District Court Judges:
Denny Chin, Anthony W. Ishii, George H. King, Dana Makoto,
Susan Oki Mollway, Dana Makoto Sabraw and Robert A.
Takasugi. 80-20 has provided you with their brief bios earlier. Get
to know them from your own contacts..

Learning from the past, we don't just want any AsAm in high
government positions. Such complacency could BACKFIRE! For an
AsAm supreme court justice, we want the equivalent of a Thurgood
Marshall, not a Clarence Thomas.

Having a good AsAm Supreme Court Justice will mean winning
equal justice for AsAms ONCE & FOR ALL. Why? Any gross injustice
can always be appealed to the Supreme Court. Recall that it was the
Supreme Court that OKed the internment of Japanese Ams during
WWII.

In this email we highlight two more prominent AsAm jurists:
a. Harold Hongju Koh, Dean of Yale Law School, and
b. Anthony B. Ching, the first ever Solicitor General of Arizona.

Harold Honghiu Koh #####
He is married to Mary-Christy Fisher. They have two children in
Emily J.Y. Koh and William H. W. Koh. From '81 to '82, he clerked for
Supreme Court Justice Harry A Blackmum whom he greatly admires.
Then he went into private practice briefly. From, '83 to '85 he worked
For Reagan Administration's Dept. of Justice as Attorney-Adviser. In
'83 he also joined the Yale faculty. From '98 to '01 he worked for
Clinton Administration's State Dept. as the Assistant Secretary for
Democracy, Human Rights and Labor. He is now the Dean of Yale Law
School. He was mentioned by the NY Times as a possible candidate for
the Supreme Court:
http://www.nytimes.com/2004/10/22/politics/campaign/22kbench.html

Anthony B. Ching #####
He is the first ever Solicitor General of Arizona for 12 years. In
Arizona, a Solicitor General is in charge of all civil cases in which the
State is a party, while the Attorney General is in charge of the criminal
cases. Anthony argued two cases in the US Supreme Court in Graham
v Richardson and Perez v Campbell (both in 1971). Coincidentally,
Justice Sandra O'Connor was a state senator in Arizona before being
appointed to the Supreme Court by Reagan.

July 4th & 80-20's "Sea of Flags" Project

######### ANNOUNCEMENT: Acknowledging the generosity of

1) James Cheung of LA: $5,000 2) Bipin R. Parekh of Charlotte: $5,000
3) Mark Le of NC: $1,250, 4) Kathleen To of TX: $1,050
5) Dongzi Liu of CA: $1035 6) Dr. Ki-hyun Chun of Charlotte: $1,000
7) Alec Y. Chang of CA: $500 #########

NON-Asian Americans think that Asian Americans (AsAms) are more loyal
to our respective "old countries" than the USA. See evidence at
http://www.80-20initiative.net/em050301.html .

So long as that is the case, we are UNLIKELY to win
1) equal opportunity in workplaces, and
2) equal justice.

That is one reason 80-20 urges you to DISPLAY A FLAG in
front of your homes & businesses on July 4th.

To see how popular 80-20's flags project is, visit
http://www.80-20initiative.net/flagproject.html . You'll find
o where to buy a flag,
o how to organize a BIG "Sea of Flags" project in your community,
o how much publicity came from mainstream and ethnic media, &
more will come if you organize your community project,
o what are the contents of 80-20's radio ads in Korean, Vietnamese, &
Chinese (Cantonese and Mandarin). Such ads are broadcast in
many big cities, especially those in CA, thanks to your dues.

Besides being pragmatic, there are REAL REASONS for
celebrating July 4th -- THE BLESSINGS OF LIBERTY IN USA:

o You can make money any way you want, provided it is legal, &
spend it any way you want.
o You can take any political position including criticizing Pres. Bush,
as 80-20 did for his non-enforcement of Executive Order 11246 for
AsAms, WITHOUT PUNITY.
o You can choose to leave USA if you want; stay if you want.
o You can practice any religion you want, including being a Buddhist or an atheist

So let's hoist a flag to celebrate the birth of a GREAT NATION.

HOWEVER, America is not perfect. AsAms don't yet enjoy
1) EQUAL JUSTICE -- recall Wen Ho Lee and Captain James Yee
2) EQUAL OPPORTUNITY in workplaces, on which 80-20 has shocking data to share with you, after July 4th is over.

The Great Battles You've Won

There is EXCITEMENT, FUN, SENSE OF ACHIEVEMENT & PRIDE in being a part of 80-20. Why? Because we fought & won great battles together.

Do you remember YOUR EXCITEMENT, whenever you received a "CALL TO ACTION" email from 80-20 laying out a battle plan whose victory depended primarily on YOUR PARTICIPATION?

Do you remember YOUR FUN, whenever you followed the battle plans & sent email/fax/call in YOUR OWN WORDS & WITH YOUR OWN TWISTS to help turn the battle in our favor?

Do you remember YOUR SENSE OF ACHIEVEMENT, when YOUR ACTION helped achieve victories one after another?

Let us count OUR VICTORIES, whether won in conjunction with other AsAm orgs. or in solo:

o General Wesley Clark & TNT broadcaster Steve Kerr called 80-20 Pres. S. B. Woo at his home to apologize for referring respectively to Chinese and Yao Ming as "Chinaman," & asked 80-20 to convey their apologies to the entire AsAm community,
o Abercrombie & Fitch C.O.O. Seth Johnson called S. B. Woo at his home to relate its decision to withdraw its 4 new lines of T-shirts that denigrated AsAms, within 4 hours of a suggestion by 80-20,
o The Nat'l Republican Comm. withdrew, within 24 hours, a TV ad that showed the USA being nuked by China. 80-20 was the ONLY AsAm org. that spoke up & demanded the ad's withdrawal.
o Acting alone again, 80-20 got 8 Democratic president candidates including Kerry & Edwards to answer YES/YES/YES in writing to promise enforcement of Executive Order 11246 to ensure equal opportunity in workplaces for AsAms, should they be elected.
o During the SARS hysteria, a NJ school district apologized and took other compensatory actions for turning AsAm teachers away from contracted work for fear of SARS, two days after S. B. Woo negotiated by phone with the school superintendent.
o After weeks of resistance to give satisfactory apologies, Seattle Times and 101.5FM of NJ gave satisfactory apologies 3 days after 80-20 joined other sister organizations in protests.
o 80-20 delivered two bloc votes in the last two presidential elections to the candidates it endorsed. More than any of the above, those bloc votes gave us the political clout that WILL WIN for us:

(1) Federal government enforcement of Executive Order 11246, &
(2) an Asian American Supreme Court Justice.

For a complete account of OUR VICTORIES, visit
http://www.80-20initiative.net/unity1.html .

Do you remember YOUR PRIDE? When you know that YOU PAID THE MEMBERSHIP DUES that sustained 80-20 to win those battle together!!!

Can you face your children, if the following radio
conversation about YOU occurs in your hometown? .

On 101.5 FM in NJ, the following conversation took place. Two
guys, Craig Carton and Ray Rossi, were spreading anti-AsAm sentiment
centered upon a Korean-Am political candidate running for office in
Edison, NJ. Result? A listener called in (capitalization our own):

"Caller: Hi, I love you
Carton: Thank you.
Caller: You just said it all, the last couple of...callers, I guess
they don't know that they live in America & WE'RE BEING OVERRUN.
I had just moved out of Edison because of what has happened in the
past 10 years... ORIENTALS ARE ALL ALONG, THE WHOLE
COMPLETE ROUTE 27 AND INDIANS HAVE TAKEN OVER
EDISON IN NORTH AND ALL OVER.
Carton: DAMN ORIENTALS AND INDIANS.
Caller: I..I moved out..36 years I've lived in Edison
Carton: And what was the biggest problem you had with the
Orientals and the Indians ?
Caller: I can't handle them! THERE'S NO AM. PEOPLE ANYMORE.
Carton: Eh..
Caller: THEY ARE SHOVING US THE HELL OUT!
Carton: It's like you're a foreigner in your own country isn't it?
Caller: You go to own store and you can't even see American people,
you don't see our own kids, American kids, working in stores anymore...
Carton: Like the next time you see an American, you think you'll
probably hug him or high five him or something?
Caller: Oh, that's why where I moved too, that's all I have, thank
God for now anyways.
Carton: YEAH I'M WITH YOU... SHARON, WE'RE JUST THE
VOICE OF THE PEOPLE, & ai appreciate your call.
Caller: Keep up the good work.
Carton: All right, you got it baby... I think the quote was DAMN
ORIENTALS AND INDIANS.* "

The NJ AsAm leaders rose to the challenge.&nbs p; They organized a
Large & effective coalition including working with a NY coalition, &
providing the talk transcript and the names of the sponsors of the
radio program. Nevertheless after 4 weeks of negotiations, the
station still refused to get the two guys to apologize on air.

80-20 NATIONAL STEPPED IN at the invitation of the NJ Coalition.

80-20 targeted 3 of the radio programs' largest advertisers and
asked their CEOs to stop their ads. In 2 days, two of the three
advertisers responded positively. On the 3rd day, the "two guys"
agreed to apologize on air. In addition, the station manager
agreed to take 4 other measures to prevent future reccurence.

Helping APAs Get Appointed

Here is what 80-20 did to induce the Bush Administration to make the cabinet appointments. You will see how 80-20 goes out of its way to help APA Republican Leaders.

In mid-Dec., 2000, African and Hispanic Americans had been appointed
to cabinet positions. In contrast, APA Republican leaders were having
trouble even seeing relatively low-level staff people involved in the appointment
process.

Therefore, on 12/14/00, 80-20 decided to find a way to induce President
Bush to appoint an APA cabinet member . The task was given to S. B Woo.

In the next few days, S. B. called two noted Republican APA leaders,
Matt Fong and John Tsu, to coordinate efforts. Without reaching either,
he left messages offering to help.

Matt Fong called back. On that day, he and many other GOP APA
leaders were in Washington D.C. working on possible appointments.
S. B. asked how things were going for them. Matt said that the APA
GOP leaders were pooling their political assets to lobby for APA cabinet
and sub-cabinet appointments. He also stated that they were having
trouble getting to see the right people.

SB asked whom they wanted to see. Matt named two. One was
Andrew H. Card who was then the Chief of Staff of the Transition Team

(T.T.) headed by V. P. Cheney. Card later became Bush's Chief
of Staff. Another person was Clayton Johnson, III, Exec Director of T.T.
S. B. observed aloud that Card was not easy to get hold of. However,
not being able to see Johnson was NOT a good sign. Matt agreed.

SB then asked how 80-20 could be helpful to them? Matt expressed
the wish to generate public pressure to open the right doors. SB
promised to help create that pressure.

On 12/21/00, SB sent an e-mail to V.P.-elect Cheney who headed the Transition
Office. S. B. took the carrot approach, stating

" .... APAs as yet do not identify with either party; we are here ready for you to make a move to win us over. Asian Ams. reside mostly in CA, NY and NJ. These are states rich with electoral college votes that GOP could win in 2004. ...

I respectfully request that you consider appointing qualified Asian Pacific
Americans to policy-making positions in President Bush's Administration
soon, possibly including a cabinet position." For the complete e-mail, visit
http://www.80-20initiative.net/unity2.html#Ex1

On 12/27/00, not having heard back from Cheney, 80-20 went to its trump
card, sending an e-mail to its 230,000 supporters, urging them to send
e-mails to the Transition Team:

"Call for Action:

... APA political leaders in both parties are beginning to understand that 80-20's success induces both political parties to pay more attention to them -- a win-win
situation that is good for our community and our political leaders.

To illustrate, we request that YOU fax or e-mail Pres.-elect Bush urging him to include Asian American Republican leaders In his cabinet.

Fax (413) 460-2609 or email it to advice@BushCheneyTransition.com.

A simple statement will suffice: " Dear Pres.-elect Bush: I urge you to include Asian Americans in your cabinet appointments. Respectfully yours, (your name and address)"

A helping hand from us NOW to get our APA Republican leaders appointed is more powerful than statements in the future saying that 80-20 works for the benefit of our community and is NOT a front for the Democratic Party.

"The only way to have a friend is to be one." -- Emerson

Send it TODAY. COUNTING ON YOU."

Although SB didn't ask the supporters to copy him in, hundreds of supporters
copied SB in while e-mailing President-elect Bush AND V.P.-elect Cheney.
80-20 estimated that at least 1000 e-mail went into the Transition Office
on the SAME day. For the complete 80-20 e-mail to its supporters sent on
12/27/00, visit http://www.80-20initiative.net/unity2.html#Ex2

The next day, on 12/28/00, 80-20 used the tremendous and immediate response
from its supporters to lobby about 400 reporters to "call the Transition
Team to get its response" regarding the aspiration of the APA community.
80-20's e-mail said:

"Dear Media Friends:

Although 80-20's e-mail entitled "President Bush/.../Call for Action" has NOT yet reached 1/3 of its 430,000 supporters, a huge amount of e-mail form Asian Americans has apparently already poured into Bush's Transition Ofc. ....

Please consider calling the Transition Office to get its reaction to these e-mails from Asian Pacific Americans. Thank you.

SB"

Many reporters from the largest mainstream media did call the Transition Office. For the complete 80-20 e-mail to reporters, which includes e-mails from supporters responding to 80-20's call, visit http://www.80-20initiative.net/unity2.html#Ex3
THE NEXT DAY, ON 12/29/00, the transition office responded positively. For the first time V.P.-elect CHENEY CONTACTED NORM MINETA, a Democrat, and inquired about his interest to serve in the Bush administration.

Inducing the Bush Adm. to make that critical first appointment was extremely important. IT MEANT that 80-20, through its various channels, had convinced the GOP that winning APA votes in 2004 would be of strategic importance. Other appointments would logically follow. THE REST WAS HISTORY.

In addition, expect other significant APA appointments shortly before Nov., 2004.
A little humor shouldn't hurt politics. Prior to Mineta's appointment, many APA GOP leaders publicly blamed 80-20's endorsement of Gore as the reason why Bush had not appointed an APA cabinet member. Now that there are TWO APA cabinet officers, was it all to 80-20's credit? :-)

Of course, not! We all share the same goal, though using different approaches. There is NO REASON that APA Democrats, Republicans, Independents and 80-20's leadership can't work together, whenever feasible. Winning equal justice and opportunity for the APA community should be the ONLY agenda.

Readers may also want to note that most of the 80-20's leaders have no personal political ambition at all. Some have even announced publicly not to run for election or accept any government appointment.

GREAT NEWS

The following press release is self-explanatory. It certainly verifies the great support that 80-20 enjoys among the Asian American voters. In addition, 80-20 predicted 4 weeks ago that its endorsement of Kerry would cause the Kerry/Bush vote to change from the 43/36 reported by a national poll to at least 65/35 on election day. All of that came true! Thanks to your support, 80-20 has delivered two consecutive bloc votes. Together, we've achieved CONSIDERABLE political unity, which is great for our children. The following press release may attract considerable mainstream media attention.

For Immediate Release (Nov. 5, 2004)

sbw@udel.edu, 866 FOR-8020)
Asian American Voters Bucked The National Voting Trend

President Bush did better against his opponent in 2004 than in 2000, nationally and in all race subgroups except for the Asian Americans, according to LA Times' national exit poll. Somehow, the Asian Americans bucked the national trend. See
http://a1022.g.akamai.net/f/1022/8158/5m/images.latimes.com/media/acrobat/2004-11/14935824.pdf
and
http://images.latimes.com/media/acrobat/2003-07/8643142.pdf
The Latinos shifted towards Bush by 14 points; the Blacks by 9, the Jews by 7; & the Whites by 4*. However, Asian Americans shifted away from Bush by 5 points*, bucking the national trend. Why?

S. B. Woo, President of 80-20 PAC, Inc., the largest Asian American political action committee said, "This unique result is not an accident. It is a reflection of how much the internal political cohesion of the Asian American community has improved."
"We sent 8 pro-Kerry emails into the in-box of about 70% of our voters in the 4 short weeks after 80-20 endorsed Kerry. In terms of monetary value, sending 8 messages to 1.1 million families is worth $4 million dollars, using third class postal mail. If first class mails are sent, the cost doubles. A cyberspace organization can do all of that at practically zero cost. That is the effectiveness of 80-20," said Woo.

The Asian American community has traditionally been ignored by both Democrats and Republicans. The 80-20 PAC was organized in 1998 to correct that "benign neglect." 80-20 promises to deliver a swing bloc vote to the political party which most effectively serves the
Asian American community's rightful concerns. "

We could have delivered the votes to President Bush this year, if he and the Republican party had paid more attention to our needs. The Republican party probably didn't believe that 80-20 has the ability to deliver votes. After two consecutive deliveries of bloc votes, I hope both
parties will now compete to serve our legitimate needs. We don't want favorable treatment. We only ask for equal justice and equal opportunity in workplaces," said Woo.

80-20 was rated as one of the two most effective cyberspace political organizations in the 2000 election, in a book authored by three Syracuse University professors
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/0813340055 .
In 2000, the 80-20 PAC endorsed Gore, and delivered nationally "more than two of every three votes" to him, according to a very large national survey of how Asian Americans voted, partially sponsored by the National Science Foundation.
http://www.80-20initiative.net/PNAAPs.html . In 2000, the LA Times national exit poll agreed with the "NSF poll" within the statistical uncertainty.

*In 2004, the Bush: Kerry ratios were Whites (57:42); Blacks (14:86); Latinos (45:54); Jews (26:74) and Asians (34:64). In 2000, the Bush : Gore ratios were Whites (54:43); Blacks (9:90); Latinos (38:61); Jews (22:77) and Asians (37:62)

A Short, Final Message from 80-20 Before 11/02

In the final analysis, our political system encourages individuals to vote THEIR OWN INTERESTS. Hence, the reason that 80-20 urges all Asian Americans to vote as a bloc for Kerry is simple. It is THE BEST WAY TO POLITICALLY EMPOWER OURSELVES. FOR OUR OWN GOOD, we must reward politicians who, in comparison, has helped & will help us more – KERRY.

Politicians always court a community that can deliver a SWING bloc vote. The Republican Party might think that the bloc vote delivered by 80-20 in 2000 was an accident. After this coming bloc vote on Nov. 2, whether Bush wins or loses, the Republican Party will face the reality of an ASAm bloc vote.

RESULT? BOTH PARTIES WILL COMPETE TO SERVE OUR
RIGHTFUL CONCERNS! Our children will benefit, & America
becomes “a more perfect Union.”

So please. Please vote to empower yourself on November 2.

THINGS YOU NEED TO KNOW BEFORE VOTING

1) To find one's POLLING STATION, call 1-866-our-vote or
http://www.mypollingplace.com/find.php .

2) If you are voting for the FIRST time, you MUST present photo
identification,
3) If you are prevented from voting for any reason, you HAVE THE
RIGHTS to request a “PROVISIONAL BALLOT.” Vote in that ballot,
and then let the lawyers from the two parties fight things out.

Do you live in Wisconsin, Minnesota, and New Hampshire? If
you do, you can REGISTER AND VOTE ON THE SAME DAY.

_packages/election2004/10038669.htm.

An IMPORTANT REMINDER:

As soon as the next president is known, 80-20 will REVERT BACK to its NON-PARTISAN stand, until the NEXT endorsement. AFTER the endorsement, 80-20 becomes partisan again so that both parties will serve our rightful interests to win 80-20's endorsement. That is what
effective politics is all about – CARROTS & STICKS.

GO VOTE FOR KERRY. GO VOTE FOR KERRY. GO VOTE FOR KERRY.

UNITY IS POWER. VOTE AS A BLOC FOR KERRY.

Remember these 2 key points:
1. Kerry & Edwards both promised in writing to enforce Executive Order 11246, a law that has been used to eliminate job related discrimination for all Americans, except for Asian Americans.
Bush and Cheney REFUSED to promise.

2. Kerry & Edwards both condemned in writing Congressman Howard Coble, House Chairman of "Homeland Security Subcommittee" who justified the WWII internment of Japanese Americans. Bush & Cheney were SILENT.

See a collage of newspaper ads that 80-20 has placed in various Communities, which stressed the above two points.

Kerry Overtook Bush in the Homestretch

[A] Kerry 0vertook Bush in poll in the Homestretch

The Washington Post and ABC poll, which has always shown Kerry to be further behind Bush than most other polls showed on 10/27 that Kerry has finally overtook Bush by 2 points, although it is still within the statistical uncertainty. Visit
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-srv/politics/elections/2004/charting.html

[B} 36 Newspapers Abandoned Bush For Kerry, according to Washington Post.

In addition 9 papers abandoned Bush but didn't endorse Kerry. Bush has won over only 6 papers that backed Gore in 2000. In terms of circulation, the papers that endorsed Kerry beat those of Bush by 17.5 million to 11.5 million. In short, the informed group is abandoning Bush in significant numbers.

[C] AsAms Will Win Regardless Of Who Wins on November 2nd.

80-20 is working hard to help our endorsed candidate, John Kerry, win. However, it is important for us to realized that SO LONG AS WE VOTE AS A BLOC, we'll win on NOVEMBER 2, regardless of who will win the White House.

Politicians & political parties will always court those who can help them win the next election. If we deliver another bloc vote in 2004, on top of the one in 2000, both parties will become believers that the AsAm community is now a bloc voter. That means: the two parties will then earnestly compete to serve our rightful interests!

Vote as a bloc, and our DREAM will come true!

QUIZ QUIZ QUIZ
Know the total monetary worth of 80-20's conditional endorsement of Kerry?

Ans: $4 to $8 million dollars! That will be the cost of sending 8 pro-Kerry
mails (by Bulk or by first class) to 1.1 million AsAm families and individuals.
That is not to mention money that 80-20 spent on TV and newspaper ads. You know
the impact of pouring this kind of money in support of Kerry in 4 weeks? Let

Kerry May Appoint AsAm To Supreme Court/ + & - Reactions

[A] KERRY MAY APPOINT AN ASAM TO THE SUPREME COURT!!

Three days after 80-20 raised the Supreme Court Justices issue
worrying about a Supreme Court filled with Bush appointees, the NY
Times answered. A front page article on 10/22 says that Kerry may
appoint the first Asian American to the Supreme Court! See excerpt:

“With no vacancies on the court in more than a decade, there
is heightened expectation that the next president will have
one or more opportunities to choose justices and shape the
court for years to come.

Some people who could be considered for the Supreme Court,
according to interviews with several Democratic advisers:

Harold Hongju Koh, the dean of Yale Law School. Professor
Koh, a widely admired scholar who has worked in both
Democratic and Republican administrations, would be the
court's first Asian-American member.”
http://www.nytimes.com/2004/10/22/politics/campaign/22kbench.html

A Supreme Court appointment like that, for Asian Ams., will mean

(1) NO MORE risk of internment for us and our children, &
(2) NO MORE selective enforcement of laws, e.g. enforcing E.O. 11246
for all Americans but not for AsAms. We’ll get a just hearing in
the
highest court of our land.

Vote KERRY For A Brighter Future.

Seattle, WA a small cardboard suitcase that held all the personal
possessions of our dear friend Miyo Enokida (now in her 80s) as she
and her family headed off for internment back in the bad old days of
WWII. Patriot Act and all lead me to think it would not be beyond the
imagination to anticipate Bush/Cheney imposing the same today on
various "suspect" populations. I will sign up for 80/20 membership
today. Check my web site . George F. Drake

9) Thank you for sending me some very valuable info. I always read
them with interest. Jagat

Perhaps it would be best for those who oppose the United States and
what the country stands for to leave. GK

3) Go back to your dog eating jungle you fxxking rag head .

Supreme Court Justices/ How You Can Help

[A] ARE YOU WORRIED?

Four of the 9 Supreme Court Justices may retire, according to
many accounts. Their ages:

William H. Rehnquist, Chief Justice, 80 years old.
John Paul Stevens, 84 years old.
Sandra Day O'Connor, 74 years old.
Ruth Bader Ginsburg, 71 years old.

A NY Times opinion piece asked in its title: "Imagining America if
George Bush Chose the Supreme Court."

For Asian Americans (AsAms), there is a more threatening issue.
When Pres. Roosevelt ordered during WWII the internment of ALL
Japanese Ams in the continental USA, Fred Korematsu challenged the
order all the way up to the Supreme Court. The Supreme Court ruled
that he and ALL Japanese Ams. be interned while only those Italian
and German Ams. who were suspected of espionage were also
interned.

Remember, John Kerry and John Edwards condemned Cong.
Howard Coble, who justified internment. George Bush and Dick
Cheney did NOT. Now you know the importance of electing John
Kerry.

[B] HOW YOU CAN HELP KERRY

(1) The simplest way you can help WITH AN IMPACT is to write a
letter to the editor of your local paper. Please be brief & to the
point.
That's how editors like it. Talk about issues that most Americans care
about.
(2) Advise S. B. Woo how to buy ads in free papers in the states
of
FL, and OH, whether it is in Korean, Vietnamese or Chinese. Please
contact him via sbw@udel.edu. 80-20 wants to buy more ads.

[D] HAVE YOU SEEN OUR TV OR NEWSPAPER ADS?

Our TV ads are seen in 50 states via Phoenix, TVB (Jade) and
ETTV. They are seen around News time, variety shows and movies. If
you don't have those channels, you can view them by visiting

are in Ohio, Pennsylvania, Florida, Missouri and New Jersey.

[E] HOW 80-20 USES CARROTS & STICKS

1. For about 3 yrs. & 9 months, 80-20 is NON-partisan.
2. After 80-20 has endorsed, it is VERY partisan in favor of the
3. endorsed candidate. That is when 80-20 rewards & punishes.
4. After the election, 80-20 is again NON-partisan.

Why? Carrots & sticks! That is the ONLY way to induce the two
political parties to COMPETE to serve the rightful interests of Asian
Americans. WE punish the party enough that ignores us. It'll learn
NOT TO IGNORE US again. UNITY IS POWER. Vote as a bloc.

An 80-20 Member Registering Voters

The following account is by William Uy, a life member of 80-20 and a Republican Delegate to 80-20's Endorsement Convention, of his recent experience registering voters in Oakland, CA.

Dear 80-20 Supporters,

I thought that you would be interested in the results of our (my wife Jing and I) voter registration activity in Oakland Chinatown. Since we do not speak Cantonese, we were lucky that three senior high schoolers - who speak Cantonese - volunteered to help us.

In a total of 6.5 hours (in two days), we registered 128 voters (includes on-site registration and cards requested) – predominantly Chinese Americans. We were busy the moment we set up our registration table. 53 of those were registered on-site and 35 were FIRST TIME voters. Even though we have voter registration cards with Chinese instructions, there were some who
still needed help filling out the cards. We also helped those, who brought their actual ballots and do not know what to do, even though the ballots have both Chinese and English instructions.

I tell you! It was a truly very satisfying and patriotic work. This is specially so when you watched the excitement and determination of some frail, white hair senior housewives who were registering for the first time in their life – and they are for Kerry!

Party affiliation of those registered on site: 2 Republicans, 14 Democrats, 37 declined to state party affiliation. However, it is safe to assume that over 90% of the 128 voters are for Kerry – judging from their comments.

Attached are some pictures taken of our voter registration activity. Note that I have used 80-20 as the organizer of this activity.

We also conducted voter registration at our parish church, St. Ignatius, in Antioch. Only 3 came to register (all Democrats).

William Uy

48 Nobel Laureates on Bush / Bush On Vietnamese

[A] 48 Nobel Laureates Think Pres. Bush MISUSES Science:

Earlier this year, a report was issued, entitled "Scientific Integrity in Policymaking: An Investigation into the Bush Administration's Misuse of Science." Signers include

135 members of the National Academy of Sciences!

[B] What Pres. Bush Thinks of Vietnamese. What An INSULT!

On the Sept. 27 edition of the O'Reilly Factor, a Fox News Channel show, the following conversation between Pres. Bush and O'Reilly occurred:
O'REILLY: The South Vietnamese didn't fight for their freedom,
which is why they don't have it today.
BUSH: Yes.
O'REILLY: Do you think the Iraqis are going to fight for their
freedom?
BUSH: Absolutely. Read the transcript:
http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,133712,00.html .

The Vietnamese American is the only AsAm group that still favors Pres. Bush to Kerry. Look, however, what Bush thinks of Vietnamese. Politicians often ABUSE their MOST LOYAL supporters who are POLITICALLY NAIVE. Here is one example of this kind of abuse! What an INSULT! Pass this email to your Vietnamese friends.

Why Go For Kerry? / Good news

Our "Hope & Fear " are what led us to Kerry.

First, MORE HOPE for winning equal opportunity in workplaces e.g. in getting raises, promotions and rising to the top.

Kerry & Edwards both promised in writing to enforce
Executive Order 11246 for Asian Americans. EO 11246
is a law that has been used to eliminate discrimination
in workplaces for ALL Americans except for Asian Ams.
Bush & Cheney REFUSED to promise.

Second, LESS FEAR of having our civil rights violated, if, God forbid, a war breaks out between the U.S. & an Asian nation, say North Korea.

Even the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights (with many Bush
appointees) reported that the Bush administration's civil rights
record was not satisfactory. Visit

Would threats and harassment come to YOU & YOUR FAMILY,
whether you are N. Koreans or not, since our compatriots don't
know the difference between N. Koreans & Asians Americans?
Remember how Sikhs, Arabs and Indian Americans were
threatened & harassed in the post 9/11 atmosphere?
Would a Bush Administration provide as much support for you
as a Kerry Administration?

Will the worst - internment - happen?

Kerry & Edwards condemned in writing Congressman
Howard Coble, Chairman of House Subcommittee on
Homeland Security who publicly justified on 2/3/2003 WWII
internment of Japanese Americans.
Bush & Cheney were SILENT, in the face of a huge
protest from every component of the AsAm community.

THEREFORE, vote for Kerry/Edwards for OUR OWN SAKE.
