July 4th & a Rising Asia

Dear Fellow Asian Americans:

First, on July 4th, help celebrate the founding of a great nation, our
nation, the United States of America -- display a flag at your home and in
your stores.

For all the first generation immigrants, who voluntarily changed our
citizenship we knew from that moment on that we owed our primary
allegiance to the USA
. However, the change of citizenship doesn't require
us to lose our affection for the people of our respective old countries --
people of Asia. No one can expect human beings to sever their affection
for and identity with their ethnic brothers and sisters at the result of a
"naturalization ceremony." Human beings are not automatons. Those who
act like automatons are not trustworthy -- at the drop of another "ceremony"
the allegiance can switched again.

Secondly, whether you are the first or nth generation immigrants, stand
up and fight for your rights as a full-fledged citizen
. There is irrefutable
evidence that Asian Americans are not accorded equal opportunity yet.
Our youngsters are required to meet higher bars to enter first rate
universities owing to affirmative action -- too many Asian Am. students in
such universities. Our adults meet higher bars to become managers and
administrators INSPITE OF the existence of affirmative action.

That we get the short ends for both adults and children is outrageous.
Do your part to FIGHT and win equal opportunity for yourself, your
offspring, and at the same time help America achieve its stated core value
-- equal opportunity for all.

Thirdly, the center of economic gravity is shifting steadily toward Asia.
America will fare better in Asia, if and when Asians know that Asian
Americans are equal citizens in the USA. Asian nations are NOT likely to
trust the USA when they see that Asians, even as US citizens, are not
treated equally. We, Asian Ams, by fight to become equal citizens ASAP,
will help America to achieve a strategic goal that no amount of diplomatic
and militarily menuevering by the State Department can accomplish.

We are indeed America's best human assets to reach Asia in the era of
"A Rising Asia".
Gary Locke, America's Amabassador to China, is only the
first prominent example. Mark my word that many more will follow.
Think and act to help Gary to succeed as our ambassador.

If you have money, please give generously to our cause. It you don't
have money, please give your time. TOGETHER, we shall overcome.

Chenming Calvin Hu - Father of 3-D Transistors

80-20 wants to share exciting news about 3 members:

1) Intel starts to use 3-D transistors, developed by Prof. Chenming
Calvin Hu,
an 80-20 Exec. Comm. Member, to replace 2-D ones

It is revolutionary -- faster & using less power with the potential to get
much better yet. The Finfet (fin-shaped field-effect transistor) is
developed by Chenming and his co-workers. For more info, click on
http://spectrum.ieee.org/semiconductors/design/the-origins-of-intels-new-transistor-and-its-future

He is the Distinguished Chair Professor, Univ. of CA, Berkeley and a
member of US National Academy of Engineering, Chinese Academy
of Sciences and Academia Sinica. He has served as an 80-20 Board
member & has given tens of thousands of dollars to both 80-20
PAC & Educational Foundation. He is always the first to give
of himself to serve our community.

2) Diana Ding, a Life Member, is the owner of a hot Web TV in Silicon
Valley. It's called DingDing TV. Click on http://www.dingding.tv/.

3) Roy H. Doi, a multi-year member since years ago, is the
Distinguished Professor Emeritus of Molecular Biology and a
member of the U.S. National Academy of Sciences

GOOD & BAD NEWS

THANKS TO ALL OF YOU who want to see continued existence of 80-20
PAC, 80-20 already has more members In less than 6 months than it has
achieved in the last 5 years in 12 months.

The BAD news is that for 80-20 to double its membership, it still needs
1,500 more members. Otherwise, 80-20 PAC shall be dissolved. We need 250
new member each month for 6 months.

Please consider joining and recruiting, otherwise 80-20 is not likely
to survive. TOGETHER, we can overcome. To join by using a credit
card, click on http://www.80-20initiative.net/ or send your
check to 80-20 PAC P.O. Box 603 Osprey, FL 34229.

EASIEST way to empower yourself & your children

EMPOWER YOURSELF! Be a voter.

In 2008, only 2.5 of the 6 million eligible AsAms voted. Imagine if all
6 million had voted and that they are known to ALWAYS vote in
presidential PRIMARIES.
We will be equal citizens of he US, without
batting an eyelash. In America, the easiest way to help make immigrants
equal citizens is through the political process -- voting power under expert
political guidance.

Below is for US citizens who have NOT registered
to vote, or have moved to a new address. Otherwise,
this email doesn't concern you.

Here is the EASIEST WAY to register to vote! Takes 10 minutes or less.

Click on https://ssl.capwiz.com/congressorg/nvra/, you'll see a map. Click
on your state. That leads you to a form. Everything from here on is
easy. Be sure to download, print, and mail in your apllication form.

Your state, upon receiving your application, will mail you a" voter
registration card." YOU NEED TO FILL THAT OUT AND MAIL IT IN. Only
then are you registered.
Note that registering to vote is ALWAYS A TWO-
STEP PROCESS, whether you register via a website
or go to a
registration place in person.

GO TO: https://ssl.capwiz.com/congressorg/nvra/ NOW! Take 10 minutes
only!!! Be a voter for your children's and grand-children's sake.

When the "Voter Registration Card" comes, you may want to choose
to vote by absentee PERMANENTLY. That is you VOTE BY MAIL instead of going
to a polling place. It is again the easiest way!!! Forward this e-mail
to your friends.

Want to keep 80-20's precious political clout alive?
Then please do your share.

To join or donate using a credit card, go to http://www.80-20initiative.net/
or send your check to 80-20 PAC P.O. Box 603 Osprey, FL 34229.

Respectfully yours,.

Opportunities Abound - presidential primaries!

Presidential elections are around the corner, 80-20 wants to empower
the entire Asian American community with these facts.

DO YOU KNOW???

1) The number of PRIMARY voters is normally only 1/5 (1 out of 5) that
of the GENERAL presidential elections*?

2) PRIMARY candidates are numerous e.g. there are 8 GOP presidential
candidates today? The spreading of votes makes 80-20's bloc vote even
more powerful. Why do Republican presidential candidates play to the
ultra conservative and the religious right? Because they vote in
primaries and in blocs.

3) In a PRIMARY, only registered party members may votein mt states?
Let's for simplicity assume that it is 1/3 each for D/I/R.

Mathematics & Astounding Revelation

If you do the math (1/5 x 1/8 x 1/3) = 1/120 = 0.8 %, it means that an
average candidate in a Republican PRIMARY will only get 0.8% of the votes
cast in presidential GENERAL election. What is the % of Asian Am voter in
the general election nationally; in most of the populous states; in CA?
Respectively, 2%; 3.5%; and 8%. Compare those percentages with
0.8% and think!!!

Opportunity!

If all AsAms register as Republicans, and all (instead of just 1/5) vote in
the PRIMARY, the Republican presidential candidates will henceforth
campaign to two groups -- 1) the religious right and 2) Asian Americans.

Note: Voters may vote for anyone during the GENERAL election, which-
ever party one is registered in.

Which is the more important to Asian Ams,
the primary or the general election?

The PRIMARIES ! See reasons stated above.

What Is 80-20 All About?

Mission: To help make the 16 million Asian Americans equal citizens.

Methodology: To get the 2 major political parties to COMPETE to serve
our rightful concerns by the usage of our bloc vote.

Effectiveness & Primary: See the HISTORIC document in the bottom.

Want to keep 80-20 alive? It is by far the largest Asian Am. political
action committee. Save it by joining & doubling its membership. Using a credit
card, click on http://www.80-20initiative.net/ or send your
check to 80-20 PAC P.O. Box 603 Osprey, FL 34229.

* 1/5 in 2000 and 2004 presidential primaries elections. In 2008, it was 1/2. This
year, my prediction is that it'll be 1/5 again.

Call To Action - focus on CA, NY, HI & VA

Background:
Congresswoman Judy Chu together with others have intro-
duced a bipartisan House Resolution 282 for the House to
express regret over past decades of anti-Chinese legislations,
including the Chinese Exclusion Act. The parallel Senate
Resolution 201 seems in good shape. H.R. 282 may need a few
more sponsors. If you live in areas densely populated by
AsAm voters, you can help greatly & be a part of history.

If you live in CA, HI, NY, or VA and live in one of the following
Congressional Districts, congratulations! You can be a part of history --
you are almost guaranteed to get your Representative to co-sponsor H.R.
282. All you have to do is to get together, say, 20 friends in your District
and politely request your Congressperson's cosponsorship. There are so many
Asian Am. voters in those districts, that no Representative in his/her right
mind would refuse.
Otherwise, the next election may be difficult for
him/her when displeased voters will cast their votes.

This is how democracy works. Your Congressperson is obligated to work
for you, when it is obviously the right thing to support and no
allocation of additional resources is required from the Congress.

A sample letter is ready for you at http://80-20initiative.blogspot.com/.
Please do the easy 4 steps, stated in 80-20's "Call To Action" of 3 days ago.
After having sent your request, wait for 3 to 4 days and then call your
Rept's D.C. office to ask to speak to your Rept. or his/her chief of staff.
Without that crucial follow-up, your email is UNLIKELY to bear fruit. It
takes at least another phone call.

Thank you. Have fun & enjoy the fruits of your endeavor. This may
be the kind of success that you will be proud to tell you grandchildren. :) :)

Call to Action

CALL TO ACTION -- estimated chance of success is 99.9%,
if you get involved!

On May 26 Repts. Judy Chu (D-CA) and Judy Biggert (R-IL) introduced
a bipartisan resolution (not a bill) expressing regret for six decades of
legislation targeting the Chinese people for physical and political
exclusion, including the infamous Chinese Exclusion Act.
It is known
as House Resolution 282. A parallel bipartisan Senate Resolution
201 was also introduced by Sens. Diane Feinstein (D-CA) and Scott Brown
(R-MA).

On May 28, Cong. Chu asked 80-20 to help secured co-sponsors of both
resolutions. This "Call To Action" is to ask YOU to help secure co-
sponsorship from your own Congressperson.

80-20 never asks our supporters to do anything which it doesn't do itself.
So, we first spent the last 6 days securing co-sponsors ourselves. Result? A
complete success! The ENTIRE congressional delegation of Delaware, the
First State, became co-sponsors.
Senator Tom Carper & Christ Coons
are co-sponsoring S. Res. 201. Delaware's one and only Congressman,
John Carney, co-sponsors H. Res. 282. When S.B. wrote to thank each,
Senator Tom Carper emailed back and said, "S.B. you are welcome, but
it is we who should thank you. All the best. Tom"

Will you please work with 80-20 to become a successful lobbyist of your
own Congressperson? It'll be educational and fun. :-)

1) Click on http://www.congressmerge.com/onlinedb/ to go to a map.
Click on your state, then click on the "Contact Form" to the right of
Your Congressperson's name. Fill out the info that is required by your
Rept. You are ready to email the following.

2) Use your own words but state something as shown below:

"I am an Asian American, and I urge you to co-sponsor the bipartisan
H. Res. 282. For background information, please find the research
done by Mr. Harlan Geer on S. Res. 201, at the request of Sen. Carper
of DE, which is almost identical to S.R. 282. Sen. Carper is now a co-
sponsor of H.R. 201.

'Dear Senator Carper:

I am following up on Mr. Woo’s request that you cosponsor Senate
Resolution 201. . . . . Here is some background on this issue:

Starting in 1882, Congress passed a series of discriminatory anti-
Chinese laws, most notably the Chinese Exclusion Act. This bill barred
anyone 1000 of Chinese descent from immigrating to America. This was
the first federal law barring any race or ethnicity of people from
immigrating to the United States. The original bill barred anyone from
China immigrating for 10 years, while an amendment passed two years
later barred immigration of any person of Chinese descent, regardless
of whether they are immigrating from China or any other country. A
bill in 1892 extended this ban another 10 years, while a bill in 1902
extended this ban indefinitely. (emphasis added by S. B. Woo) After 41
years, Congress repealed the ban in 1943, coinciding with the Chinese
allying with the US during World War II. Congress never passed a bill
or resolution expressing regret or apologizing for the original ban.

Recommendation:

. . you should cosponsor S. Res 201. The 1882 Chinese Exclusion laws
unfairly targeted people of Chinese origin and descent on the basis of
anti-Chinese prejudices and for no other reason. . . . Harlan'

Please co-sponsor H Res 282. All Chinese Americans, perhaps all Asian
Americans since we are mostly in the same boat, in your district
will thank you! Please be so kind as to let me know of your decision.
Thank you.

Sincerely,
[Yours full name.
Title (if you have an impressive title, use it & add (title
is for identification purposes only))]"

3) Copy and Paste item 2 onto the window for your "message."

4) After you have e-mailed your congressman, let me know his or her name,
party affiliation, state, and Congressional District number.

Congratulations, you are now a lobbyist! :) Let me know when your
Congressperson replies to tell you whether to co-sponsor or not.
Do NOT
forward me his/her form reply.

You are DONE! Step by step, we become full-fledged US citizens --
upholding all our responsibilities and demanding our full rights.

Want to keep an org. like the 80-20 alive? Using a credit card, go to

initiated and helped form the idea of getting our Congress to express regret.
THANK YOU, Michael Lin and others. :) :)

Our core weakness, political APATHY

Click on http://www.80-20initiative.net/about/membership.asp . About
1/5 of our 2,000 members have pledged to help 80-20 combat political
APATHY -- our core weakness.
See those names in pink and blue.

These noble individuals have not only financially supported our
community's political needs. They now put themselves on the line to get
their friends & relatives involved politically.

Wow! That kind of activism shall make us STRONG!

Asian American are the best educated, having the highest average
income. Why are
we openly dealt with as 2nd class citizens? See below:

Answer: Our political APATHY!

We ignore politics, focusing on education, and jobs. We don't seem to

have the sophistication to realize that the purpose of a good education
is
to get a good job, while good jobs and politics are related.

When we don't pay attention to politics in a democracy, we, the
smallest of minorities,
are shortchanged in good jobs, especially when we
reach the prime of our lives
and are ready to take on the more
responsible jobs.

Hundreds of 80-20's members have stepped forth to combat
political APATHY. In another couple of weeks, we expect 600 to
1,000. With an army of that size, we can make a difference.

"Give a man a fish & he'll eat for a day. Teach a man to fish, it serve
him a lifetime."

80-20 has amply delivered in political deeds, as reported in "80-20's Top
Ten
Accomplishments."
To review what the accomplishments are, please
Visit http://www.80-20initiative.net/images/data/top10.pdf . With your
help, we now go after the root cause of our political weakness -- political
APATHY.

Be a role model. Get involved!

2) If you are not a member, join now!
