Help Michelle Wu Win Boston Mayorship
80-20 will only recommend an AsAm candidate to you, if we've studied and mostly approved of the candidate's
a) political career and activities,
b) his/her chance of winning the particular campaign, and
c) his/her personal & political value system.

We are proud to strongly recommend to you Michelle Wu for the Mayorship of Boston. We think, if elected, her service to Boston will make all of us proud.

Michelle has won city-wide elections 4 times as an at-large candidate for city councilor, topping the ticket in 2 elections. She was elected by her colleagues unanimously to be the council president in 2016 . “I am witness to Michelle’s grace under fire, in every single one of these (politically pressurized) situations,” said fellow Councilor Lydia Edwards who endorsed her to be the mayor, together with many experienced politicians in MA, including U. S. Sen. Elizabeth Warren.

Right after Michelle had graduated from Harvard and married, she left her consulting job in Boston to go to Chicago to take care of her mother, who had a mental illness, and her two younger sisters. Michelle also had volunteered in Boston’s Chinatown, helping immigrants seeking citizenship.

For all of the above and more, click here to read a Boston Globe article about Michelle Wu as a candidate for Mayor. Today, Boston Globe published "A double standard for Boston’s acting mayor" about Kim Janey, who is Michelle's closest competitor in the mayoral race. Wow, what a great break for MichelleFor polling info. about the race, click here. Wu is the leading candidate, Janey is second.

Help Her & Ourselves - Pass the $80.20 Message

Michelle Wu will be facing a non-partisan primary on Sept. 14. We anticipate that she will emerge as 1 of the 2 winners. The 2 winners will face a run-off on Nov. 2. The 6 officers & board members of 80-20 Empowerment PAC have pledged to donate more than $5,000 to Michelle. As you know 80-20' Board NEVER raises money for itself or others, without first donating to the same cause themselves - a necessary ethical tradition.

We strongly urge you to help! For DONATION to Michelle Wu click herePlease help her by donating $802.0 ($1,000 is the maximum allowed) or $80.20 or $8.02That way Michelle Wu will know that the donations come from 80-20 supporters who reward her for representing us well - our values and our political aspiration to be equal citizens. If you want to donate more than $80.20, simply donate $80.20 several times. To mail a check, make it out to "The Wu Committee" and send it to P.O. Box 960782, Boston, MA 02109. If you live in Boston, click here to volunteer.

Let me know, after you've donated. Together, we shall overcome.

2 Victories Plus Very Sad News.

Two Great Victories & 1 Pending

1.  We Dumped Trump!

We didn’t do it alone.  But we were the first in the nation calling to dump Trump, right after Trump used the term "Chinese virus". On March 23, 80-20 published "Demand Apology or Reject Trump", when Republicans were absolutely certain that Trump would be re-elected, and when Democrats were mired in their primaries. Go visit the 132 feedbacks left on the Poster Board of that e-newsletter. See how money and support poured in! This sentiment and strategy spread and spread ... to the whole nation.

2. Defeated CA’s Prop 16 by a landslide, 55% to 44%.

We didn’t do it alone either.  But 80-20 is the only national AsAm org. to lead the opposition in CA against Prop 16.

3. Outcome of flipping the Senate is ???

It’ll depend on the 2 runoff senate elections in Georgia in January.

The Significance of Dumping Trump

Van Jones, a CNN commentator, said it best: “Well it is easier to be a parent this morning.…It’s easier to tell your kid that character matters.  Telling the truth matters. Being a good person matters.  It is easier for a whole lot of people..."

I, S. B. Woo, like to add to Van Jones's statement: ”IT IS EASIER FOR A PERSON OF CHINESE DESCENT TO LIVE IN THE USA, AFTER THIS ELECTION.”

The Significance of Defeating Prop 16 In CA

Are you aware of the following shocking facts?   9 Asian American legislators voted for ACA 5. California's Controller Betty Yee, Treasurer Fiona Ma, former Controller/Treasurer John Chiang, Congressmembers Judy Chu & Ted Lieu all supported Prop 16.

When something is grossly out of whack in our community, don’t just blame others.  To start the correction process, EXAMINE SELF FIRST. 80-20 was partially at fault. Henceforth, 80-20 shall try hard to be in closer contact with our elected AsAm officials nationwide.

Many of YOU are also at fault. YOU must not support candidates just because they are AsAms.  YOU need to know if the candidates share your concerns and hold them accountable during election time.  Don’t be satisfied just because AsAm politicians attend your weddings and funerals and take pictures with you.  That is silly.  YOU need to reach out and tell elected officials your principal concerns.

Very Sad News OR 80-20 Needs Your Help!

If you think 80-20 Educational Foundation and Empowerment PAC are of critical Importance to you, then we respectfully request your sacrifice & help.

In that regard, our Board members came unanimously to a very sad conclusion.   That is, unless 80-20 can greatly expand its financial and human resourcesIT SHALL SLOWLY DIE when the old war horses like Alice Huang, Henry Lee and I will fade away, since our younger colleagues like Wei-jing Zhu, Jing-Li Yu and Elaine Su, with full-time jobs and duties, are not yet ready to carry the torch fully.  80-20 shall slowly burn through its current assets of about $4 million, saved penny by penny by past & current Board members with deep sacrifice, and SLOWLY DIE

In the next few weeks, we’ll present you with a RESCUE PLAN that will require deep sacrifices from ALL of us to make it work.  Our sincere & serious apologies for the sad news.

Forward this e-newsletter to individuals who may have the ability to RESCUE 80-20 but who are thus far not involved with 80-20.
