Interview by Minzi Xu, World Journal correspondent, via telephone.

Recently, the 80-20 Initiative elected Kathleen To, a Hong Kong native and a retired Texas businesswoman, as their new chairwoman. Established in 1998, the Initiative began four years ago to elect leadership candidates from dues-paid members. Ms. To is the second chairperson of the Initiative, the first being two-term former chairman, Dr. S.B. Woo.

Kathleen To joined the 80-20 Initiative in 2002. The following year, she was elected as the Initiative’s Secretary, a position in which she served until the end of 2006. Until this past chairperson election, she also served as the Secretary and Treasurer of the Initiative’s Educational Foundation. She will relinquish these Educational Foundation positions in order to more fully concentrate her energies on the overall work of the Initiative itself.

Ms. To emigrated from Hong Kong to the US in 1964. Afterward, she earned a Master of Science in Molecular Genetics at the University of Oklahoma. She is a former member of the skin cancer research team at the University of Texas at Dallas. After leaving academia, Ms. To started a private investment firm, and engaged in retail and real estate transactions. At present, she has retired and resides in New Mexico.

After arriving in the US, Ms. To has actively participated in Asian American politics. When in Dallas, she was a dynamic member of several Asian-American Associations. In 1990, she was appointed by the Governor of Texas to be the Honorary Commercial Attache of the State of Texas to Asia. Her main duties included encouraging the development of trade relationships between Texas and Asian countries.

Upon being asked about any new plans she will bring to the table as the new chairwoman, Ms. To replied that the Initiative will engage in more educational work in the future. Hopefully, this educational aspect will elevate the primary goals of the Initiative into the consciousness of Asian Americans. One primary goal is that Asian Americans recognize that, if they unite to create a single voting bloc, they will influence politics in a powerful way.

In Ms. To’s view, Asian Americans in the past have always made financial contributions to both political parties, but “…these contributions were split evenly between the Republicans and Democrats. In the end, neither party competes to cater to Asian American interests.” Ms. To states that the days of Asian Americans donating funds in order to get a picture with a political candidate should end now.

Ms. To hopes that, through the Initiative’s diligent efforts, the Asian vote may develop and play the critical “swing vote” role between the Left and the Right. This will cause mainstream society to do a “double-take” and recognize Asian Americans on a deeper level. Ms. To also hopes that the Initiative’s educational work may continue through heads of families in the Asian American community. Too many heads of families only focus on a child’s SAT score, and do not focus at all on a child’s political cultivation. Therefore, an important agenda Ms. To plans to pursue is to increase the number of interns at the Initiative.

At the present, 80-20 Initiative has 750,000 online supporters, with eighteen Board Members who are industry elites in various fields. Six of these Board Members are newly elected. Within the Board, there are seven members who comprise the Executive Committee. Between March or April of 2007, the new Board will confer for its first Board meeting in the Bay Area.

Interview by Minzi Xu, World Journal correspondent, via telephone

On the 31st of December 2006, S.B. Woo will be retiring as the chairman of 80-20 Initiative, as a new chairperson succeeds him. During a December 28th interview, Dr. Woo expressed his whole-hearted gratitude at having had the opportunity to serve as chairman for two terms. He also emphasized that, despite his retirement, “. . . I’m still an acting Board member, who can still help out.”

S.B. Woo is one of six major founders who established 80-20 Initiative in 1998. Since then, 80-20 Initiative now has 750,000 supporters online and is the largest Asian American political organization in the US. Dr. Woo has long been recognized as the driving force behind 80-20. Although originally a physics professor, Dr. Woo, after retiring from teaching, worked fifty to seventy hours a week as a pioneer of Asian American politics.

A native of Shanghai, Dr. Woo lived in Hong Kong and Taiwan before coming to the States. Here, he studied at the University of Washington and earned a doctorate in physics before joining the faculty of the University of Delaware in 1966. In 2001, he retired from his teaching post after thirty-five years, because “. . . the time-consuming activities of a political movement needed more of my attention.”

In 1983, Dr. Woo was elected as Lieutenant Governor of the State of Delaware. At that time, he held the highest elected position an Asian American had ever attained in the US. However, after Dr. Woo’s attempts in the House of Representatives and the Senate were defeated, he resolved to steer clear of the political theatre, and to concentrate on a grassroots political movement of a more educational nature. In this manner, S.B. Woo has continued to pursue his political ambition through a different route.

Dr. Woo expressed that he felt honored to have the opportunity to support the Asian American community, yet felt “some regret” that he had not done enough. He also stated that “Rome was not built overnight,” and that to change the “second-class citizenship” of Asian Americans would require a united effort by all.

For the past eight years, S.B. Woo has actively taken steps out of his own effort to improve the political stature of Asian Americans. Aside from giving much of his personal time, Dr. Woo has donated nearly $70,000 dollars to 80-20 from his own savings and speaking honorariums.

Dr. Woo stated that meaningful purpose in life “consists in doing that which is valuable and which one desires to do, which others might not dare or desire to pursue.” He reflected that although the visible costs of starting a political movement have been substantial, the “invisible” benefits have been greater. Part of those benefits have come from the satisfaction of having done something meaningful and worth doing.

He also pointed out that Asian Americans, when struggling for political equality in the US, must change themselves. This includes cooperating and uniting as a team for political power, and also viewing themselves as Americans, not only as Chinese. Dr. Woo stressed that Asian Americans must understand the workings of the American political game, and not only adhere to traditional Chinese rules and customs.

Dr. Woo’s past experiences include being the Founding President of the Faculty Bargaining Unit at the University of Delaware, its Chief Spokesman and Chief Negotiator; a Trustee of the University of Delaware; an Institute Fellow at the Institute of Politics, the Kennedy School of Government, Harvard University; and serving as the National President of the Organization of Chinese Americans (OCA). A life-sized picture of him is displayed in Smithsonian’s National Museum of American History in Washington D C.

<<世界日报>> 采访文章2 (from the World Journal)

English Version (translated by Helen Wang)
Interview by Minzi Xu, World Journal correspondent, via telephone

On December 28th, S.B. Woo, the President of 80-20 Initiative, stated that for the 2008 Presidential election, the Initiative would ask the candidates of both political parties to promise to keep in mind the interests of Asian Americans, before recommending any particular candidate to 80-20 members. This practice is in keeping with what 80-20 has done in the 2000 and 2004 elections.

S.B. Woo further stated that, for the 2008 election, the Initiative would make more demands upon each presidential candidate. In addition to a promise for an evidentiary hearing on workplace discrimination against Asian Americans, 80-20 will demand that a potential candidate, after being elected, will push the Department of Labor to bring into reality Executive Order No. 11246, regarding equal workplace opportunity. 80-20 Initiative also demands that the newly elected President appoint more Asian American federal judges.

Even though the next Presidential election will not take place for another two years, formal and informal declarations for presidential candidacy have already started to take place. Some candidates have included, on the Republican side, John McCain and Rudolph Giuliani. On the Democratic side, Hillary Clinton, John Edwards, Barack Obama, and Joseph Biden are also potential contenders.

Dr. Woo has also put forth some predictions regarding the Republican and Democratic primaries. On the Republican side, the Presidential candidate will probably be John McCain. For the Democrats, Hillary Clinton will probably win the primary. In Dr. Woo’s opinion, McCain has accumulated much experience from his previous bids for the Presidency. Furthermore, McCain is not a “yes-man;” he has a great background and a great ability to work with both parties effectively. These are McCain’s advantages. On the other hand, Hillary Clinton has finances, ability, and popularity. As long as she doesn’t make a mistake, it seems very promising that she will win. However, if another unexpected contender wins the Democratic primary, Dr. Woo predicts that person would be the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs, Senator Joseph Biden, not Senator Obama. Although Biden is not well-known, Dr. Woo believes that he would win, just like lesser-known primary winners Jimmy Carter and Bill Clinton.

When asked about the Republican Party’s refusal to comply with the Initiative’s demands in the last two Presidential elections, Dr. Woo responded confidently that this time, the situation is different. This past November election showed that the Republicans have lost the support of Southern and Mid-Western notes. The Republicans no longer have any leverage to refuse the Initiative’s demands.

Dr. Woo also noted that the Initiative played a major role in Congress’ shift of power. Before the congressional vote, the Initiative predicted that a Democratic candidate, Jim Webb would win. As a result, the Initiative contacted its online supporters to vote for Webb. After the vote, CNN conducted an investigation and determined that 3% of Webb’s votes had been from Asian Americans, and it was exactly by this 3%, a margin of over seven thousand votes, that Webb defeated his opponent.

Dr. Woo whole-heartedly confirmed that, at the next time the Initiative and the Republican Party speak with each other for the 2008 election, the Initiative’s “price” will be higher. In addition to Executive Order No. 11246, the Initiative will demand that there be more Asian American federal judges appointed. At the present, Asian Americans comprise of 4.4% of the entire US population, but comprise only 0.7% of total US federal judges (six judges). The disproportion is too great.

Dr. Woo further added that the Initiative’s requests require the united support of all Asian Americans. This includes the support of Asian American Congress members, and especially the support of areas where Asian Americans and Asian American media are numerous, like California. Every Asian American has a responsibility to collectively push the federal government to remedy the inequality which we face as soon as possible, and to attain the right of first-class citizenship for Asian Americans.

A Record of Service DESERVING your membership

A Record of Service DESERVING your membership

1. In Feb, 80-20 organized a "Gathering of Asian Am Legal Eagles"
luncheon in LA supported by ALL AsAm Federal judges and attended by
2/3 of them. See the picture below.

Setting grounds for a 6-fold increase of Asian Am judges, including a
Supreme Court Justice through political persuasion during the elections
'06 & '08.

2. In Sept., through the gracious help of Sen. Tom Carper of Delaware,
the following powerful information got into the Congressional Record:

"AsAms have the lowest odds in getting into management. At
the current rate of progress, it'll take 3 more generations before
we enjoy equal opportunity. Such is the sad fate for AsAms in
spite of our having the highest educational attainment."

to see the page in Congressional Record.

Getting our foot into the door -- the consciousness of the Congress!

3. On 10/23, Chairman of the Democratic Party wrote S. B. Woo
promising specifics to help AsAms win equal opportunity, while the
Chairman of GOP ignored 80-20's request to meet.

Growing GROUP political clout!

4. The next day, 80-20 called for a bloc vote for ALL Democratic
Congressional candidates except for two.

Effective politics depends on rewarding your friends and punishing your
opponents!

5. On 11/7, the election day, 80-20 delivered a bloc vote! The
CNN exit poll clearly showed that without the AsAm bloc vote, GOP would
not have lost its Senate leadership.

The above is the greatest service ever delivered by 80-20 to YOU!!!
From that day onward, both political parties will respect our rightful
concerns.

No other organization is performing this kind of service for you. Help
80-20 to help yourself. Without your help, 80-20 could die. Who will

The Best Is Never Apathetic

The Best Is Never Apathetic

YOU have been on our email list for a long time! By now,
you know what kind of organization 80-20 is. Chances are
you think 80-20 tries hard, but has NOT served you perfectly.

If that is the case, may I urge you to join as a member?

Get involved. I know that you are not apathetic or a freeloader. 80-
20 is the ONLY Asian American organization that fights for you in the
political arena, bravely and effectively. No organization is to anyone's
perfect liking, when one has watched its actions for a long time.

Of the millions of Asian Americans only 1900 were willing to pay
$35/$50 to help build Asian American political clout. Isn't that a
shame?

Why political clout? To break the glass ceiling in your workplaces; to
lower the higher admission bar for your offspring; and to get more
AsAm Federal judges appointed, currently totaling 0.7% of the nation
while our population is 4.4% !!!

Many in the mainstream community view Asian Americans as self-
centered, no civic spirit and timid, only texture-less math nerds
gathering money. 80-20 needs your help to break that negative
stereotype image against us, and to fight our way to become equal
citizens of America.

80-20 has and will do things for you and your children that you
yourself can not possibly do AS AN INDIVIDUAL. But united in 80-20, we
can together do even more. Does $50 mean that much to you? See
"80-20's Proud Record Of Service This Year," attached at the end.

80-20's RECORD OF SERVICE

What 80-20 has done for our community in the last 6 months:

1) On 6/11/06 Full page ads in Korean, Indian, Filipino, Vietnamese,
Japanese and Chinese newspapers. Message? Asian Americans unite to
shatter the glass ceiling above us.

2) On 9/6/06 Full page ad in the Washington Post to call America's
attention to the unequal opportunity suffered by us.

3) On 9/21/06 U.S. Senator Tom Carper read YOUR Washington Post ad
into the Congressional Record and asked other Senators to note it.

4) On 10/23/06 Governor Howard Dean, Chairman of the Democratic
Party wrote 80-20 President, S. B. Woo, promising concrete and specific
help in our battle to win equal opportunity in workplaces -- a historic
precedent!

5) On 10/24/06 In return to the above commitment, 80-20 urged Asian
Ams to vote for Democrats in all Congressional races with 2 exceptions.

6) On 11/7/06 80-20 showed that Asian Ams' bloc vote can help win
tight and crucial elections. AsAams helped Democrats win not only the
House but also the Senate leadership. 2 of 4 tough races, focused by
80-20, were victorious. Without the AsAm bloc vote, Democrats
could not possibiliy have won the Senate race in Virginia!

Through the above series of events, 80-20 demonstrated dedication
and deep political knowledge and skills using them to advance rightful
concerns of AsAms. See 80-20's "Prediction of Election Results"
below that was published 4 days BEFORE the election:

"85% chance that the Democrats will win the U.S. House.
60% chance that the Democrats will win at least a 50-50 split in the Senate.
80% chance that 80-20 will help win at least 3 of the 4 TOUGH races it
has focused on. 80-20 also urged its two chapters in Missouri to
help the McCaskill Senate campaign. (Democrats won that close senate
race. ) Hence, even the 1.1% Asian Am. population can make a difference
through a bloc vote."

WHAT'S NEXT?

7) On MM/DD/YY Congressional HEARING on the powerful statistics
gathered by 80-20 showing that Asian Americans have faced the LOWEST
glass ceiling in the nation. The House/Senate Labor Comm. recommended …
(some kind of action to provide relief for Asian Ams.)

Does the above excite your imagination?

Proof of Effectiveness of 80-20's Endorsement

[A] How Strong is the Asian Am. Bloc Vote?

Our bloc vote is stronger than that of Labor Unions! See below.

Source:
http://www.cnn.com/ELECTION/2006/pages/results/states/VA/S/01/epolls.0.html .
CNN has explicit data on how AsAms voted in 3 Senate races only, where the % votes were large enough. For the same reason, how union members (UM) voted in Virginia is not available.

State VA NJ CA
% of AsAm voters 3% 3% 6%
Sen. Candidates Webb/Allen Menendez/Kean Feinstein/Mnfjoy
How AsAms voted 68/32 74/24 70/26
How UM voted Unavailable 63/37 65/30

[B] Proof of 80-20's Influence On Asian Am. Voters.

How does one know that Asian Ams voted for Democrats in Federal races owing to 80-20's endorsement? Could it be that Asian Ams are simply voting more and more for Democrats?
No. Here is the proof.

80-20 endorsed the Democratic Party for all Congressional races but not any of the state races. So, let's find out if AsAms voted for Democrats in state races as well. The only CNN exit poll that explicitly lists how AsAms voted in a state race is the CA gubernatorial race. It showed
that Asian Ams instead favored the Republican candidate Schwarzenegger by a large margin. See below.

Democrat GOP
How AsAms voted in Senate races nationally* 70 30
How AsAms voted in House races nationally** 62 37
How AsAms voted CA's Governor's race in which 37 62
80-20 didn't make an endorsement

* An estimated figure. Note that few senate races were held in the southern states in 2006.
** CNN has NO explicit data on how AsAms voted in any single House races. But it does provide the national average figure.

[C] Urging you to Consider Joining 80-20
In the past, many Asian Ams. AVOIDED joining any political org. That was what got our community to be so lacking in GROUP political strength. It in turn got us to be the MOST discriminated at work and having the SMALL-EST proportion of Federal judges. Politics plays a big role in your life, whether it is your promotion at work or your children's admission to
universities. 80-20 is fighting for YOU where YOU as an individual is powerless.

CNN Exit Poll: AsAms Can Reward or Punish A Pol. Party

On 10/24/06, 80-20 called for Asian Ams. to vote for Democrats in
all congressional races with 2 exceptions. Reason? Repeated contact with
the Republican Party were ignored, while the Chair of the Democratic
Party promised in writing on 10/23/06 to help Asian Ams.

To show our political clout, AsAms MUST reward D and punish R through
the 2006 election, the more consequential the better! We did just that!
CNN exit polls showed that without our help, the Democratic Party would
NOT have won the Senate. See irrefutable evidence presented below.

[A] CNN exit polls: Source: http://www.cnn.com/ELECTION/2006/pages/results/states/TX/S/01/epolls.0.html.

CNN did exit polls for all 33 Senate races. However, only 3 of the 33
races have sufficient number of AsAm voters to qualify for explicit listing.

State VA
% of AsAm voters 3%
Sen. Candidates Webb/Allen
How AsAms voted 68/32

State NJ
% of AsAm voters 3%
Sen. Candidates Menendez/Kean
How AsAms voted 74/24

State CA
% of AsAm voters 6%
Sen. Candidates Feinstein/Mnfjoy
How AsAms voted 70/26

[B] Without 80-20, Democrats would NOT win the Senate.

1) Background Info: Democrat Webb won VA Senate race by 7231 votes giving
Dems the Senate leadership. If 80-20 didn't endorse the Dems or had instead
endorsed GOP, the incumbent GOP Senator Allen would have won by at least
22,543 votes. See evidence below.

2) According to CNN poll figures, Virginians cast 2,364,217 votes for the
senate races, while 3% of the 2,364,217 votes or 70926 votes were cast by
AsAms. Of those, Webb got an advantage of (68 - 32) or 35 points
which translates to (70926 x 0.35) or 29,824 votes.

Since Webb won by 7231 votes only, it is easy to see that if
80-20 didn't endorse D or had endorsed GOP, AsAms would likely have voted
about 50/50 or in favor of Allen, Webb would have lost by at least (29,824
- 7231) = 22543 votes instead of winning by 7231 votes.

[C] Conclusion
By voting as a bloc and showing that Asian Americans have the voting
power to reward or punish a political party, we have greatly strengthened
our political clout. It means that we are close to getting both political
parties to pay attention to our rightful concerns.

[D] Sneak Preview for the next 3 emails

80-20's Proud Record Of Achievement This Year

80-20's RECORD OF SERVICE

If you approve of that record, please JOIN 80-20. Otherwise, it may die.
See what 80-20 has done for our community in the last 6 months.

1) On 6/11/06 Full page ads in Korean, Indian, Filipino, Vietnamese,
Japanese and Chinese newspapers. Message? Unite to shatter the glass
ceiling above us.

B. Woo, promising concrete and specific
help in our battle to win equal opportunity in workplaces -- a historic
precedent!

5) On 10/24/06 In return, 80-20 urged Asian Ams to vote for
Democrats in all Congressional races with 2 exceptions.

6) On 11/7/06 80-20 showed that Asian Ams' bloc vote can help win
tight and crucial elections. AsAams helped Democrats win not only the
House leadership but also likely the Senate leadership. 2 of the 3 tough races,
focused on by 80-20, were won. The 4th one is undecided. 80-20
demonstrated deep political knowledge and skills and used them to advance
rightful concerns of AsAms. See 80-20's Nov. 3 Prediction on Election Results:

" 85% chance that the Democrats will win the U.S. House.
60% chance that the Democrats will win at least a 50-50 split in the Senate.
80% chance that 80-20 will help win at least 3 of the 4 TOUGH races
it has focused on. 80-20 also urged its two chapters in Missouri to
help the McCaskill Senate campaign. That race is in a 49/49 split.
Hence, even the 1.1% Asian Am. population can make a difference
through a bloc vote."

Will You help Our Children Win?

For so long, BOTH political parties have ignored our rightful interests, though wanting our money.

ONE exception! During the "campaign finance scandal of 1997," which NY Times termed "Asia Gate," both parties competed to disassociate themselves from us.

80-20 rose to change the above. It has made GREAT PROGRESS:

FIRST, in 2004, 9 of the 10 Democratic presidential candidates promised IN WRITING to 80-20 to help AsianAm. gain equal opportunity in workplaces, if elected.

SECOND, this year the Chair of the Democratic Nat'l Party, Howard Dean, did the same thing IN WRITING for 80-20. This year, Democrats are mostly likely to WIN the House, and possibly the Senate.

VOTE DEMOCRATS in all House races except for in Delaware and CA-11. VOTE DEMOCRATES in all Senate races.

When the Republican Party realizes how AsAms can help win crucial tight elections, they'll begin to pay attention to our concerns in order to court our vote in the NEXT election.

OUR CHILDREN WILL WIN!

Help get out the Democratic votes. Our children look to you to seize this historic moment. Go get a few votes for Democrats.

Election Forecast -- GREAT NEWS

80-20's Forecast on the 2006 election:

85% chance that the Democrats will win the U.S. House.
60% chance that the Democrats will win at least a 50-50 split in the
Senate i.e. taking over about half of the Committee Chairmanship.
80% chance that 80-20 will help win at least 3 of the 4 TOUGH races it
has focused on. 80-20 also urged its two chapters in Missouri to
help the McCaskill Senate campaign. That race is in a 49/49 split.
Hence, even the 1.1% Asian Am. population can make a difference
through a bloc vote.

DETAILS on the 4 focused races, each with a 6% or larger AsAm
population:

(1) Tammy Duckworth in IL 6 (South-West Suburb of Chicago):

a) Endorsed by Chicago Tribune, Daily Herald, Chicago Sun-Times,
Pioneer Press -- a clean sweep of all major area papers,
b) Reuters poll (a well-respected poll): Duckworth leads her opponent
by 54 to 40 in the latest poll although it was a deadheat earlier. See how
a united community can help! However, her opponent has 4 times her
cash and is dumping attack ads on her, and
c) Her site: http://www.duckworthforcongress.com/ She can use
money.

(2) Darcy Burner in WA 8 (City of Seaettle):

a) endorsed by Seattle Post-Intelligencer: Darcy Is Better,
b) Can use money and volunteers, and
c) http://www.darcyburner.com/ .

(3) Nicholas Lampson in TX 22 (Houston's southern suburb):

a) Endorsed by Houston Chronicle, the area's largest paper,
b) His opponent's name has to be written in, decreasing her chance, and
c) His site: http://www.lampson.com/ / . He can use volunteers to get
out his voters.

(4) Bob Menendez's Senate Campaign in NJ:

a) Endorsed by NY Times, Philadelphia Inquirer, Star Ledger and the
Record -- a clean sweep of major papers,
b) Leading in all major polls by 5 to 7 points; has twice his opponent's
cash on hand. Can use volunteers to do GOTV, and
c) http://www.menendez2006.com/ .

HELP OURSELVES by helping Democrats win the Congress. Do your
share.

CROSS POLLINATION is very effective in politics. Email your friends
and relatives
in those 4 focused races plus the one in MO to urge them
to vote for Democratic congressional cnadidates. The Republican
Party wants our money but has repeatedly refused to pay attention to our
rightful concerns in equal opportunity in workplace. Indeed, many Asian
American Republican leaders denigrate our efforts. Time to give the
Republican Party a strong awakening message.

History Beckons

80-20 salutes the political responsiveness of Asian Americans. I was deeply moved by YOUR promptness, generosity and dedication. See below.

[A] 80-20's Appeal:

Subject: History Beckons

Dear XX:

History sometimes calls upon an individual to do MORE to change things for the better. As an 80-20 member living in IL/WA/TX/NJ, you are that individual. A historic moment has arrived.
Recently 80-20 asks both major political parties to help with our battle to win Equal opportunity at work. The Republican Party ignored us. The Democratic Party through its Chair Howard Dean has written 80-20 to promise specific help in our battle to win EQUAL OPPORTUNITY at work. To create a win-win situation, 80-20 has decided to go all out to help Democrats win Congressional leadership in the 2006 election.

80-20 will focus on 4 tight races. One of which is located in YOUR HOME STATE. Please volunteer for these campaigns …..

In addition, please email/call your friends & relatives in her/his district to ask them to vote for …….

A great individual steps up to the challenges of a special circumstance in history, and feels proud, win or lose. For the one who doesn't, he/she asks retrospectively: "WHY DIDN'T I?"

HELPING this candidate in your state IS INDIRECTLY HELPING YOUR OWN CHILDREN WIN EQUAL OPPORTUNTY IN WORKPLACES.

S. B.,

President of 80-20 PAC, Inc.

Asian Americans Gaining A Political Voice

For Immediate Release (10/24/06)
Contact Person: S. B. Woo (302 366-0259)

80-20 announced today that it has received a historic commitment from
the Democratic Party to help Asian Americans (AsAms) win equal
opportunity in workplaces. To create a win-win situation, 80-20, a non-
partisan organization, is urging Asian Americans to donate and vote for
Democratic Congressional candidates ONLY in the 2006 election. Two
Republican candidates who have been friendly to Asian Americans are
exceptions. See http://www.80-20initiative.net/gopcandidates.html

Howard Dean, Chairman of Democratic National Comm., wrote
S. B. Woo, President of 80-20 PAC, statin

1) "I look forward to working with you and other interested members of
Congress to encourage the US Labor Department to enforce Executive
Order 11246 for Asian Americans in the same way that the Clinton
Administration did in the 1990s."
2) "I will work with you and other AAPI community leaders to encourage
Congress to hold public hearings on the statistical evidence showing that
a glass ceiling exists in the workplace for Asian Americans," and
3) "Democratic Platform for 2008. I welcome input from you and
other leaders of the AAPI community, such as DNC Vice Chair Mike Honda
and DNC APIA Caucus Chair Bel Leong-Hong, as we develop the Platform."

S. B. Woo said, "Never before has a major political party stated
specifically how its intends to help Asian Americans, much less specific
ways to help us win equal opportunity in workplaces. 80-20 is proud to
have induced that commitment."

He also said, " Our decision is to help Democrats in order to help
ourselves. The party that has a majority controls the Congress. The
Democratic Party has promised to help Asian Americans win equal
opportunity by holding public hearings on and enforcing Exec. Order
11246. We can help the Democratic Party gain control of Congress by
winning tight races where Asian American votes and money can make a
difference."

80-20 plans to focus on 3 tight House races and 1 tight Senate race in
which our population is relatively large. They are Illinois Congressional
District 6, TX 22, WA 8, and the NJ senatorial race of Robert Menendez.
The race in IL 6 of Tammy Duckworth, an Asian American female pilot who
lost both legs in Iraq, will receive particular attention. All can send money
to Friends of Tammy Duckworth, 416 West 22nd Street, Lombard, Illinois
60148. Specify in your check "At the suggestion of 80-20."

Getting a major party to recognize Asian Americans' rightful concerns
in writing is historic and significant. "We must do all we can to ensure the
continuation of that concern. How? By making sure that we help back the
party that helps us." said Woo.

A Historic Breakthrough in Political Voice

Governor Howard Dean, Chairman of the Democratic National Committee (DNC) wrote S. B. Woo, President of 80-20 today. He said he saw our Washington Post ad and heard from Senator Tom Carper. As a result, he wrote:

1) "I look forward to working with you and other interested members of Congress to encourage the US Labor Department to enforce Executive Order 11246 for Asian Americans in the same way that the Clinton Administration did in the 1990s."

2) "I will work with you and other AAPI community leaders to encourage Congress to hold public hearings on the statistical evidence showing that a glass ceiling exists in the workplace for Asian Americans," and

3) "... Democratic Platform for 2008. I therefore welcome input from you and other leaders of the AAPI community, such as DNC Vice Chair Mike Honda and DNC APIA Caucus Chair Bel Leong-Hong, as we develop the Platform."

The above is a historic breakthrough. Never before has a major political party made such specific commitment to Asian Americans.

To create a win-win situation, 80-20, a non-partisan organization, is urging Asian Americans to donate and vote for Democratic Congressional candidates ONLY in the 2006 election. Two Republican candidates who have been friendly to Asian Americans are exceptions. See http://www.80-20initiative.net/gopcandidates.html . The above decision was unanimously approved by 80-20's Board.

Help Democrats in order to help OURSELVES!

The party that has a majority controls the Congress. The Democratic Party has promised to help Asian Americans win equal opportunity by holding public hearings on and enforcing Exec. Order 11246. We can help the Democratic Party gain control of Congress by helping to win tight races where Asian American votes and money can make a difference.

With your help, 80-20 plans to focus on 3 tight House races and 1 tight Senate race in which our population is relatively large. They are:

Illinois Congressional District 6 (Chicago area) : Tammy Duckworth,

TX 22 (Houston area): Nicholas Lampson,

WA 8 (Seattle Area): Darcy Burner, and the

NJ Senatorial race: Robert Menendez.

The race of Tammy Duckworth, an Asian American female pilot who lost both legs in the Iraq war, will receive particular attention. 80-20 will be writing big checks. More important, YOU must help. Send check to

Friends of Tammy Duckworth, 416 West 22nd Street, Lombard, Illinois 60148. (Specify in your check "At the suggestion of 80-20.")

Do you have you friends & relatives living in those areas? FORWARD THIS EMAIL TO THEM. WE MUST DELIVER, IF WE EXPECT THE MAJOR POLITICAL PARTIES TO PAY ATTENTION TO US IN THE FUTURE. TOGETHER, WE CAN ACHIEVE EQUAL OPPORTUNITY. COUNTING ON YOU.

Wow! Asian Americans Outraged!

EVERY part of the Asian American community wrote (see the diversity of readers' names) to EXPRESS THEIR OUTRAGE. They either condemned the intimidation tactics used by the Executive Director of The White House Initiative on Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders or praised 80-20 for serving our community. Most did both.

SOME asked for the e-mail addresses of Jimmy Lee and his boss e.g. see "reactions 7 and 9." Others found on their own how to express their outrage at Jimmy Lee directly e.g. see "reactions 1, 6 and 8."

Jimmy Lee has not only shamed himself but also gotten the Republican Party into a lot of trouble 4 weeks before a crucial election. He has turned off not only Democrats but Republicans and Independents, e.g. see "reactions 1, 10 and 21."

Again, we apologize for not publicizing all the emails which poured in. However, just in case some Republicans are so insulated as to think that 80-20 has manufactured the reactions, we encourage you to express your outrage directly to

"Jimmy Lee" http://us.f569.mail.yahoo.com/ym/Compose?To=jimmydlee@gmail.com Better yet copy it to RNC chairman Ken Mehlman: http://us.f569.mail.yahoo.com/ym/Compose?To=Chairman@gop.com who is the one who needs to know.

Please take a minute to write. This could be the historic moment when all Asian American political figures know that if they exploit instead of serve our community, they will be rejected by our community. Your taking a moment to write helps create that HISOTORIC MOMENT.

READERS' REACTIONS

(1) Dear Jimmy D. Lee,

I recently read your email correspondence to President Roselle and Provost Rich, regarding S. B. Woo's request for Republican members of 80- 20 initiative. … I have sat around and thought about what possible motives you could have for sending this email. But I could not think of any possible reason you would have except for wanting to somehow silence S.B. Woo's message. To describe this tactic as downright disrespectful of S.B. Woo and the majority of Asian Americans, is an extremely gross understatement. ….

With all due respect, you are supposed to be fostering a better understanding and relationship between the White House and the Asian American community. What you did directly contradicts what you are suppose to be doing! Christina Fong

p.s. Before you write me off as some partisan Democrat, let me tell you I am a registered independent, and my father was a lifelong Republican who regularly contributed to the Republican party until George W. Bush came along.

2) Keep this movement up, wishing you a great success. Pramood Kr. Sinha

3) Not only are we empowered, but encouraged and with more power! Theresa

4) Jimmy Lee just further perpetuates the image that politics and politicians are just slimy, weasel-like characters. It's ridiculous to say that just because an email address contains a university tag that your message implied views endorsed by the university. You're right--it seems all he was trying to do was intimidate you by flexing his muscles (by using his title) a little. Yuri Saito

5) Your demeanor, your forthrightness and your ability to teach the next generation come through everything you do for our community. There is an _expression we use in the Vietnamese community to refer to the substance of those who suffer anomie: "mat goc". Cao Anh Quan

6) To Erik Wong; copied to Jimmy Lee: Why is Jimmy Lee trying to intimidate SB Woo, one of the trailblazers in the Asian Pacific Islander community? I would like to know. Ted W. Lieu California State Assemblymember, 53rd District

7) I would suggest you to ask all of us to send this email responds to the White House. Hence let the White House knows what kind of people they hire to represent Asian Ams. They have to make changes if they still want to have supports from Asian Ams. Mijad Lee

8) Please find below my email that I posted onto the White House Initiative Office on Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders' website. http://www.whiaapi.org/contactus/ I will forward to you any feedback that I might receive. David

9) Do you have Jimmy Lee and his boss' email addresses. We should flood them with our point of view. Peter

10) You are a very honorable person who has courage and vision for advocating Asian American's rights of equality. Yet, Jimmy Lee is such an ashamed partisan that conducted a dirty political trick. As a registered Republican voter, I condemn his shameful conduct. Would you forward his e-address and his boss's, so I'd copy this to them? Joseph Zhou

11) What's wrong with GOP? Does GOP now stand for Gas, Oil, and Play- boy of the dirty tricks?! We 80-20 are not partisan but legitimately fight for our equal rights in this "most democratic" country. … This is what the 80-20 all about. So let's stand up for your rights and side-track the partisan stuff. …May Lord bless you all to have the right, but not right- wing vision! Xing Wu

12) This Jimmy Lee is outrageous ! He is supposed to help the cause of Asian Americans not to intimidate the person who is doing that ! I'm going to remember this name. Wen Lee

13) Thank-you. Lotus Do Brooks

14) I can't help wondering why GOP hired this guy to serve as "Executive Director" of this "White House blah blah on AAPI". That just drives AsAm further away. The only reason that I can imagine is that AsAm Republicans with good hearts do not bother to be associated with current GOP leadership anymore. Dongzi

15) You are doing a wonderful job. Our current and future generations will thank you. Steve Kuo

16) I greatly appreciate your dedication to the cause of Asian Americans. Whatever intimidation should not deter you from doing so. You have my support. Ramon Lim

17) Thanks for letting us know the story! And many thanks for your hard work! Youxue Zhang

18) Even if Jimmy Lee's email does not represent the White House and the views of President Bush's leadership, the impression is out there (through his use of the title Executive Director, The White House Initiative) that the White House is just as ignorant about academic freedom and is supportive of the thoughts portrayed through this email. KY Tsang

19) Frankly, I don't know why anyone would be surprised by the Republican party's dirty tricks.
Pauline Rossen

20) you have done a good job, particularly in advocating correct values as demonstrated in the current email. Yu Leuk Choi

21) Shame on Jimmy Lee. I say we ditch the Republicans and vote straight Democrats (I am an independent). M. Jeang

22) We fully support you, you did a wonderful job for us. Thank you from the bottom of my heart! I-chih Wang

23) Good for you. Is there such an office as Executive Director, The White House Initiative on Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders, and if so what have they done to help Asian Pacific Americans? Cliff

Intimidation Against S. B. Woo Backfires

The following may EMPOWER you and our entire community. It illustrates what America is all about -- not the partisan view of a person with a fancy official title but what is right or wrong.

BACKGROUND:

80-20 called on the AsAm Republicans on its 700,000 e-mail list to send a message to Republicans headquarters (RNC, NRCC and NRSC) urging them to pay attention to the rightful interests of AsAms during the 2006 election.

A huge number responded. They sent emails stating that "if you don't meet with S. B. Woo, I will vote for all Democrats, and ask all my friends and relatives to do so." They signed off with their names and addresses.

Instead of responding positively to the request, a few Republican AsAm operatives paniced. They decided to intimidate S. B. Woo personally. One operative used his title (Executive Director, The White House Initiative on Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders) to boost his complaint to the President and Provost of the University of Delaware, where S. B. once worked & served as a Trustee. S. B. was copied in the complaint.

THE INTIMIDATION:

"President Roselle and Provost Rich:

Our office received this email* from one of your faculty this past weekend. I am forwarding this to your attention. I hope that his views and his perspective is not representative of the university. I imagine that your university shares our vision of working with all communities and all parties in this country and we are here to serve the people of this country.

Even if Professor Woo's emails do not represent your university and the views of your leadership, the impression is out there (through his use of the university email address) that your university is supportive of his work and the thoughts portrayed through this email.

Our office asks that you respond promptly and look into this matter. Thank you.

Jimmy D. Lee
Executive Director
The White House Initiative on Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders"

INTIMIDATION BACKFIRES:

From: "Roselle, David"
To: "Jimmy Lee"

"S. B. Woo is a retired member of the University of Delaware’s faculty. As such, he is entitled to have limited access, including E- mail, to the University’s computing facilities. All users of these facilities are governed by certain policies, none of which would seem to have been violated if Professor Woo did, in fact, author and send the memo* you attached to your note."

MORAL OF THIS STORY:

The above exchange of emails best illustrates what America is all about. It is not about official titles, it is about right and wrong. Dirty politicians, from both political parties, have used their titles to intimidate AsAms for decades, particularly recent immigrants, for financial contributions or for partisan political advantages.

Stand up for justice and your rights, fellow Asian Ams. Don't let unethical politicians intimate you ever again.

80-20 hopes that this email has empowered you. Write 80-20, if you are facing intimidation by an official. We'll look into it for you.

This incident is a big strike against the Republican Party. It also shames "The White House Initiative on Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders."

* The following is the email referred to in the correspondence:
Dear Kam: Greetings. Thanks for copying me in your correspondence with Jimmy Lee, whom I assume works for the GOP. His email to you illustrates the great difference in our value systems.

His email: "Kam - hope that you're well - I think that you and also the community reading this needs to realize that the RNC has contacted Mr. Woo and that we said that we would have our political folks sit down and meet with him but he said no thank you. My guess is that he wants to go and tell people that he has met with the Chairman so he looks good in front of his constituents. But if he is going around and saying that no one responded to his request that is false and he needs to be honest about what he is saying and telling people."

According to that person's value (Jimmy Lee), I wanted to see Mehlman because I could publicize it and it'd make me look good. By that logic, not been given a meeting with Mehlman should makes me look bad. Why would I publicize this bad news then Jimmy Lee simply doesn't understand a higher value system -- the desire to serve and the will to fight the wrong. I and my colleagues in 80-20 fight for Asian Americans' equal opportunity because we believe it will be good for Asian Americans and America. I am beginning to think that the Republican party has attracted a lot of selfish people without the right value. They support GOP simply for their own selfish appetite. Therefore they misjudge others' motives. They think all?people are like them -- vain glorious and selfish to the core.

Both D and R responded to my first request for a meeting by sending low ranking folks to meet with me. I rejected both offers, because such people didn't have the authority to make the big deals -- 80-20 doesn't sell Asian Am. votes?cheaply. To my second letter to both D and R. Democrats adjusted. The Republicans didn't.

You may forward this reply to Jimmy Lee if you like. It may cause him?to re-examine his value. The poor soul refers to Mehlman as Chairman only. He didn't even dare to use Mehlman's name. Doesn't he realize that this is America, and a party chairman is no big deal. The issue could settle easily. Mehlman could simply announce a date that is convenient to both on which we'll meet. The climbers in GOP may think Mehlman is a big deal. I only respect Mehlman's office, since I don't know anything about him to decide whether to respect him as a person or not. Thanks, Kam. I am glad ?that?our community has a leader like you. Best, SB

Call To Action

CALL TO ACTION

It all depends on our Republican supporters now. You alone can get the Republican leadership to pay attention to Asian Am interests and in return get our support in the 2006 election.

Background:

(1) This year's election is crucial. The leadership of both the House and the Senate are at stake. 80-20 wants both parties to compete to serve our rightful interests in order to get our votes. So 80-20 contacted both parties.

(2) DNC (Dem. Nat'l Comm.) responded. 80-20 wants the Dem. party to help us win equal opportunity, whie DNC wants us to vote for then in return. Fair enough. But no deal is made yet.

(3) RNC didn't. 80-20 president S. B. Woo couldn't get a appointment to see RNC leadership after repeated tries. 80-20 sent almost identical letters to DNC and RNC on the same day, and made identical calls.

What you can do, if you are a Republican:

E-mail or fax (more effective):
1) Chiar of RNC, Ken Mehlman: Chairman@gop.com; 202 863-8820 -f
2) Nat'l Rep. Congress Comm.: website@nrcc.org; 202 863-0693 - f
3) Nat'l Rep. Senate Comm: webmaster@gopsenators.com; 202 675-4730

Use your own words but express the following sentiment: "I am a Republican voter. Why aren't you meeting with S. B. Woo, President of 80-20 Initiative, to create a win-win situation for both GOP and Asian Americans? If we lose the leadership of one or both branches of the Congress, I'll hold you responsible. I will vote for all Democrats, and ask all my friends and relatives to do so, if you ignore my request." Print your name, address and title (optional).

Do it NOW. You have the right to demand the service from your Party. Exercise it. If you don't fight for yourself, no one will. Election time is the best time to get politicians to listen to us.

Enjoy the inner satisfaction of having done YOUR share! THANKS.

(B) A High School Student Comments on why she wants to be a
Chancellor Chang-Lin Tien High School Intern Program

Last Tuesday, in our Government class, our substitute teacher began a discussion about the abuses of executive power in our current government. In our school, teachers are greatly discouraged to talk about their political views, yet many do. Our substitute was obviously a Democrat who was totally against our President, and the majority of the students in our class, mostly coming from upper-class Caucasian background, were hard-core Republicans. This seemingly innocent topic fueled into a huge argument about the war, and students began to shout out their own opinions. I looked around to see these girls arguing, then examined myself. It was not that I, Margaret Cho, did not care about politics, I just did not think I knew enough about politics. Then I looked at my friends, xxx Choi and yyy Chung, who were sitting next to me. All three of us were seventeen year old Korean girls who did not seem to care about politics. I wondered to myself why was it that the only three girls who did not participate in the debate happened to be Asian?

Today, I received an e-mail about the 80-20 Initiative, a national Asian-
American organization that encouraged the Asian American community to
politically make a difference in society. This ingenious initiative is designed
to unite 80% of the Asian American votes to one candidate in order to truly
influence the votes. During the presidential campaign, both parties will
realize just how valuable the Asian American vote is, and this desirability
will cause them to consider and examine the needs and wants of our
community. Only through this way can WE raise OUR voices. Only through
this way can WE decide and obtain what WE want.

I am a proud Asian American. I want to be able to voice my political
opinions, not only in Government class, but in the real world.
I wish to
become an intern, so I can fulfill this ambition.

History: YOUR Ad in Congressional Record

US Sen. Tom Carper of Delaware saw YOUR ad in Washington Post and was so moved by it that he took the Senate floor yesterday to speak on the issue and read YOUR ad into the Congressional Record. It is now a part of US history. He said:

" The data indicates that Asian-Americans have half the chance of Whites of rising to management-level positions.

If this is right, then this is wrong. ...

The fight for equal opportunity is a fight we must not allow to lag.

I hope my colleagues will consider the important information that is presented here today and maybe take the opportunity to look at it.

I ask unanimous consent to have the Washington Post item printed in the RECORD."

History may look back at YOUR ad and acknowledge it as the key document that ignited Asian Americans' struggle to win equal opportunity; and at this moment when Asian Americans begin to fight for our rights. To see the Congressional Record and your ad, see *** at the end of this email.

It is not just lowest odds of getting into management in the 3 areas of private industries, universities and the Federal government. It is also the lowest odds of getting into management in ALL professions. http://www.80-20educationalfoundation.org/washpost.html#q9 In addition, Asian Ams also have the lowest % of Federal judges per population. We have 4.5% of American population and 0.7% of the Federal judges! All AsAm federal judges are at the lowest level.

Remember all the lowest odds is a reality despite our having the highest educational attainment. If we keep our mouths shut, then it'll be 3 more generations before we'll enjoy equal opportunity.

How about it, Asian Americans? As one father said,
"Our children came to this country because of us, they did not have a choice. This makes it our responsibility to make this land a land of equal opportunities for them."

80-20 is a national, nonpartisan, Political Action Committee dedicated to winning equal opportunity and justice for all Asian Pacific Americans through a SWING bloc vote, ideally directing 80% of our community's votes and money to the presidential candidate endorsed by the 80-20, who better represents the interests of all APAs. Chancellor Chang-Lin Tien High School Internship

Announcement: See next email for Washington Post ad's positive impact

Know of any Asian American high school students wishing to serve their community & preparing resumesfor their application to enter good universities? Forwardthis email to them please. ########

Student volunteerism is not only a practice of good citizenship, but also a highly sought after quality by college ADMISSION offices, especially the first-tier universities.

80-20 has a Chancellor Chang-Lin Tien* Memorial High School Intern Program that will give them o the sought-after credential, if they have earned it, It may also fulfill their community service graduation requirement.

  1. the sought-after credential, if they have earned it, It may also fulfill their community service graduation requirement.

  2. the pride of identity with their own community having volunteered for a nationally known Asian Am. organization, &

  3. a taste of the real world in organizing the Asian Am. community, which is not easy. There will be joy and frustration.

  4. various real world strengths, such as persuasion & persistence. Such skills will be severely tested and will be nurtured by 80-20.
The following program was proposed by Sherry Zhang, 2003 Chancellor Chang-Lin Tien Intern who was a high school sophomore then, and now a Princeton University student.

Chancellor Chang-Lin Tien* Memorial High School Intern Program

A student will first visit a special section of 80-20 website to learn about 80-20. http://www.80-20initiative.net/explain.htm

Then he/she will propose the number of members each will recruit by the end of June or December. Any student who has recruited at least 5 members will be certified as a Chang-Lin Tien intern. Those who have recruited less then 5 but more than 2 will still be recognized for their time and effort. We assume that a student will have to spend 8 hours learning about 80-20 before he/she can be an effective recruiter. A student who's recruited 20 members by the end of that time will receive a bronze certificate, 30 members a silver certificate, and 40 members a gold certificate.

The top 3 Gold-level Recruiters, will get on an hour long phone conversation with the president of 80-20 for the purpose of formulating a reference letter, if the intern so desires. The student is not paid, but the experience is priceless, and the letter of recommendation is effective, according to earlier college interns.

To apply, please email a 150 word statement describing what 80-20 is all about and why someone should join to Jing-Li Yu, 80-20 Director of projects, jingliyu@earthlink.net

Who was Chang-Lin Tien and Why was he Honored repeatedly?

Chang-Lin Tien was the first Asian Am. to head a major university. He was the Chancellor of U.of CA, Berkeley from 1990 -97. Although he had achieved highly, he was willing to take risks to stand up for Asian Ams and other minorities. He didn't care about protecting his own eathers. He cared about doing the right things. Such persons are rare in our community. That 's why 80-20 honors him again and again. We hope Asian Am. youth will emulate him.

Chang-Lin Tien (1935-2003) was one of the six founders of 80-20. Chancellor Tien spent his life fighting for justice and equal opportunity. When he first came to America, he walked at least an hour a day to avoid riding the bus, as a way of protesting the segregation of blacks.

When Chang-Lin Tien was Chancellor, Berkeley faced an 18% cut in its budget and the loss of 27% of its faculty through early retirement. Declaring, "It is not a matter of whether we can survive; it's a matter of being excellent or, mediocre," Chancellor Tien personally recruited young faculty members, retained prominent faculty, appealed to the public to lobby for Berkeley, and presided over record private fund-raising. Owing to his efforts, Berkeley remained a stellar university, with 97% of its graduate programs ranked in the top 10.

Readers' Reaction to the Washington Post Ad

Praise for the Washington Post Ad poured in, as did contributions for 80-20 EF and membership for 80-20 PAC.
Many of the comments expressed heart-felt emotion and profound determination to win equal opportunity for the AsAm community. To save space, we apologize to those who commented for quoting only one or two phrases. Whenever there is a new thought, we quote in full so our readers can enjoy them.
  1. Job well done! Wego

  2. Great Ad. Ademan Angeles

  3. Thank you very much for your efforts for our behalf regarding this ad project. Please tell me more about the Education Foundation. kenhluk@????.net

  4. Dear Friends, .... All of us came to this country on our own free will, and hope that our children will be equal partners of this great and. However, we know too well that this has not been the case. It is about time when most of us are established, or are retiring, that we put our money and actions where our hearts and children, and our grandchildren are, and will continue to be. Our children came to this country because of us, they did not have a choice. This makes it our responsibility to make this land a land of equal opportunities, not a land of discrimination, to the best of our abilities, for their sake. 80-20 has many programs which will achieve this purpose, this ad is only one of them, and they require your participation. (Emphasis added)

.... Asians, can speak their mind and bring their grief to the public eye, by purchasing advertisement in the most influential paper in the nation.

    May all benefit,

YOUR ad in Washington Post on Wednesday

The final version of your ad will be in Washington Post on 9/06/06 (Wed). It is the clarion call for us to stand up and win our equal opportunity in workplaces.

Please do your part in this historic struggle. Please
  1. Go buy a copy of Washington Post, one of the nation's most prestigious newspapers and find the full page, color ad in the back page of the Business Section!
  2. Show it to you family members first. Afterwards, show it to people whom you think you can reach and ask them to work with us to assert America's Core Value: Equal Opportunity. Show it to your boss!
  3. Volunteer your time and money (tax deductible) to 80-20 Educational Foundation. Enjoy the satisfaction that comes with giving to others.
The ad below is just the beginning. See areas listed under the ad to see if you can help.

The ad above is just a door-opener to win equal opportunity for us. Do you have a special connection to open one of the following doors?

  1. editorial boards of major mainstream media,
  2. TV news programs such as 60 Minutes of CBS, 20/20 of ABC & Dateline NBC in our attempt to induce them to publicize our plight,
  3. major foundations in our application for big grants to make a long and sustained effort to win equal opportunity for Asian Americans,
  4. Senate and House Committees to induce public hearings*,
  5. Nat'l Republican Party (RNC) and DNC to induce action PRIOR to the 2006 election*,
  6. Large law firms to take our case to the courts for the enforcement of Executive Order 11246, which will be very costly in time and money and will be our last resort.
Get involved. Most of our institutions think AsAms are smart, but gutless and lacking a public conscience. Prove them wrong! What is more important is to prove to yourself that you have the character and guts to do the right things. It is YOUR ad, YOUR rights and YOUR fight.

Respectfully yours,

S. B. Woo
President, 80-20 Educational Foundation

For a list of individuals and organizations each giving $1,000 or more, please see the lower right corner of the ad. They are part of our history. Others gave less. However we are equally proud of them. Doing YOUR share is what counts:
