Ready to vote for Obama?
YOU will benefit greatly when the Obama/Biden team is elected, owing to the iron-clad promises made to Asian Americans by both. See below.
YOU will benefit greatly, because America needs change and Obama has set out a superb program about how to change.
What a substantive speech Obama made!
Obama emphasized education to get America's jobs back instead of blaming China. To get our economy moving again, he promised to cut taxes for 95% of all working families instead of cutting taxes for the rich. To regain America's prestige he will work with Biden to pursue forceful diplomacy instead of unilateralism backed by America's military muscles.
Indeed, this election is NOT about Obama or McCan. This election is about YOU!
So take a good look at the signed commitments to YOU by Obama and Biden. When they are elected, will YOU benefit?
Ponder for a moment, if America needs change. Will such changes benefit America and YOU?
Are you ready to vote for Obama/Biden? If not, please email me. I want to understand your reservations.
Countless Asian Ams working through 80-20 have labored for YOU for the last 10 years. They have shed sweat, tears, and blood to create the current opportunity for YOU. Unite and seize this historic opportunity together by electing Obama/Biden! We will then have fulfilled our historic responsibility to our children.
Visit http://www.80-20initiative.net. Donate $5 to Obama/Biden.
Most sincerely yours,

Biden, A Delawarean, Is Obama's V.P. Choice
Good news! Sen. Joseph Biden, a Delawarean who as a presidential candidates was among the first to reply to 80-20's questionnaire with all yeses, is now Sen. Obama's running mate. To see Biden's signed iron- clad commitment to us, click on http://www.80-20initiative.net/news/preselect2008_biden.asp.
Ponder for a moment its implication: Both the President and the Vice President of this nation will be unequivocally committed to give Asian Americans equal opportunity in workplaces and equal justice, provided we help elect them on Nov. 4th.
I know Sen. Biden well*, beng once a Lieutenant Governor of Delaware. Indeed, my wife, Katy, used to manage Sen. Biden's home district office. We have both been to his home many times. We know Biden as a person who cares deeply for equal justice, and equal opportunity for all Americans.
What a team that is. Obama has the leadership; Biden has the experience. Obama wants to see change; Biden has the know how to forge that change in Congress, having been a senator for 36 years. Obama wants to unite our nation; Biden is recognized as having chaired the least partisan committee of the Senate -- the Senate Foreign Relations Committee.
Don't let this historic opportunity slip by. Asian Americans have NEVER had a brighter prospect to become equal citizens of America.
Do your share to elect them! Pass the word.
Respectfully yours,
S. B. Woo
Member, Executive Committee, 80-20 PAC, Inc.
*If you'll do your share now, I'll do my best to make sure that the commitments are fulfilled as soon as possible. Asian Ams. have helplessly let our children down in the past. Don't let this opportunity pass!
History has taught us that a Harvard/Yale law degree won't get an Asian Am. the equal opportunity to be appointed a Federal judge. It takes the political process to win equal opportunity for minorities. 80-20 is leading the way.

CALL TO ACTION -- Help Obama!
Do you expect Sen. Obama to fulfill his commitments to us? Of course, you do.
Take a careful look at his commitments to you, shown below. They are humongous & unprecedented commitments, with immense positive implication for you and your children.
Commitment is a two-way street, however. We must help back. Help Obama to help ourselves.
80-20 is planning many actions to help him. The first is to help him raise $5 from at least 5,000 Asian American donors within one week. It'll compare well to Obama's proud record of receiving 1,000,000 small donations in one year nationally. Divide 1,000,000 by 20 (we are 5% of the total population) and 52 (52 weeks in 1 year), it comes to 1000 small donors per week.
Please donate $5 to Sen. Obama now at http://www.80-20initiative.net/news/preselect2008_obamacontrib.asp. All US citizens and permanent residents of any age may do so. Don't get children under 10 involved. Each $5 contribution must have a name & an address. 80-20 is bundling the money to pass on to Obama. z
Get your family & friends to participate please. With your great help, we could get up to 15,000 donors in one week. It'll be a magnificent demonstration of our UNITY & participation in the affairs of this great nation. An opportunity like this to demonstrate our cohesiveness doesn't come often. Step up to the challenge, Asian Americans!
Save this signed Obama letter to show your grandchildren for your part in Asian Am. history. If you don't see the letter above this line, please click on http://80-20.us/data/obama_questionnaire.gif.
Our next Call to Acton will be to help Obama win 3 to 6 battle ground states. The margins of difference between Obama and McCan in those states are so small that a 4 to 1 bloc vote for Obama by the SMALL Asian Ams population in those states will deliver their electoral college votes to Obama.
Contribution $5 NOW please! Go http://www.80-20initiative.net/news/preselect2008_obamacontrib.asp.
HELP OBAMA TO HELP OURSELVES!
Awaiting your $5.00 for our children's sake,
S. B. Woo

80-20 Endorses Sen. Obama for President
80-20 Endorsed Sen. Obama for President. Its Endorsement Convention was attended by 33 Delegates and 3 Alternates, 1/3 Republicans, 1/3 Democrats, and 1/3 (Independents/Declines) on 8/2/08 in Foster City, CA.
Delegates were so enthused about the quality and the sense of FAIRNESS and UNITY of the Convention that 2 couples each donated $10,000 to 80-20, without ANY prompting from 80-20. They are
Peter and Grace Wang, and
Charles and Lynn Zhang.
Indeed 3 of those 4 generous donors are Republicans, illustrating the fantastic spirit of unity at the Convention.
Why Obama? For two reasons.
First, Sen. Obama committed unequivocally to give Asian Americans equal opportunity, while Sen. McCain did not. See Sen. Obama's signed commitment below: http://www.80-20.us/data/obama.zip
Second, Sen. Obama's party did more deeds for Asian Americans in the last 4 years. On Oct. 25, 2006, the Chair of the Democratic National Committee, Howard Dean, wrote to the President of 80-20, promising to work with 80-20 to encourage Congress to hold a public hearing on the glass ceiling over Asian Americans in workplaces. After the Democrats gained control of the House and the Senate, the legislation sponsored by Congressman David Wu (D), was finally passed by Congress, giving underserved Asian American students the same educational assistance long available to other minority groups -- a historic first. Democrats sponsored immigration bills favoring family reunion, and legislations with stiff penalty for hate crimes. All of the above areas are important to the Asian American community.
For photos about 80-20's Convention, go http://picasaweb.google.com/8020PAC/2008EndorsementConvention/photo#s5230676521082983938
For details about the Convention, see a mainstream media article entitled: "Largest Asian-American PAC Endorses Obama." Go
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/natasha-chen/largest-asian-american-pa_b_116562.html
The Huffington Post is like the New York Times in WEB news. 80-20 was honored to be covered by the Huffington Post, and by many Chinese and Korean print and web media including Sino Web, 1 radio station, 1 mainstream TV & 3 ethnic TV stations during the Convention.
Words are cheap. Endorsement is a set of words. To make sure that we can cash in on Sen. Obama's iron-clad commitments to us, we must help him win the election above & beyond words. In the next newsletters, we'll suggest WHAT YOU CAN DO to help Obama AND our community win.
For now, please go visit the sites and spread the word. THANK YOU.
Respectfully yours,

80-20 Cause the "Milestone" in UCLA's Report?
"Super Tuesday of the 2008 presidential primary was a milestone in the emergence of Asian Americans as a factor in American politics."
Question: Did 80-20 cause that milestone?
Answer: Yes.
Q: Do you have evidence?
A: 4 irrefutable evidences. 80-20 challenges anyone who disagrees with the evidences.
1) 80-20 is the only Asian Am. organization that has ever advocated an AsAm bloc vote.
2) 80-20 has the knowhow and the work ethic to create that bloc vote. 7 months before Super Tuesday, 80-20 already predicted the "MILESTONE." 80-20 sent a newsletter to its 700,000 supporters entitled "Political Secrets II: AsAms, the Kingmakers in CA Primary." To verify, visit http://www.80-20educationalfoundation.org/posterboard.html
3) On 2/4/08, 80-20 sent a newsletter entitled "Advice On Who To Vote For Tomorrow." It said, " In California, do a bloc vote for Sen. Clinton." It went on to predict that we'll cast a bloc vote in CA for Clinton "stronger than that of the Hispanics." Result? AsAm voted 3 to 1 for Sen. Clinton, while Hispanics voted 2 to 1 only.
4) CNN recognized 80-20's contribution to that MILESTONE. Visit http://www.80-20initiative.net/success/media_mainstream_080215cnn.asp.
Of course 80-20 had help. 80-20's California affiliates like CAPA, CBC, CPAC and APAPA helped. The large number of Asian Am. elected officials in CA, who've endorsed Clinton, helped. Together, under the leadership of 80-20, we produced this "MILESTONE."
To non-80-20 members:
80-20 has served you greatly. It set a vision to make AsAms a factor in American politics. It worked tirelessly for YOU to deliver the vision. Will you encourage us by joining as dues paying members? Does $35 or $50 mean that much to you? As UCLA's Press release says "still more can be done." Go http://www.80-20initiative.net/membership/payment.asp.
80-20 is gutsy, knowledgeable in politics, and dedicated to you. Be pioneers! Help make the "awaken sleeping giant" even stronger. Share the burden.
Respectfully yours,

UCLA dubs AsAms as "awakened political GIANT"
The report was a most positive testimony to 80-20's political effectiveness, although 80-20 was not mentioned by name. See what the release says.
"Super Tuesday of the 2008 presidential primary was a milestone in the emergence of Asian Americans as a factor in American politics. National news outlets discussed and analyzed California's Asian American voters, who helped Senator Hillary Clinton win the Democratic vote," says the release.
"In addition to helping Hillary Clinton in California,.. Asian Americans have played a pivotal role in other nationally significant contests.
In 2006, for instance, 76 percent of Virginia's Asian American and Pacific Islander voters went for Democratic U.S. Senate candidate Jim Webb,.. Webb's win helped tip the balance in the Senate in favor of the Democrats."
To see the entire report on which the press release is based, go http://www.aasc.ucla.edu/archives/SleepingGiantBrief_070208.pdf.
Which Asian Am organization is singularly instrumental in the above demonstration of AsAm political clout????? 80-20!
To 80-20 members: This UCLA report is an immense non-monetary reward to us all for having borne the burdens of pioneers.
To non-80-20 members: You have been great supporters of 80-20, wouldn't you please go another step and be dues-paying members now??? As the UCLA Press release says, "still more can be done."
Join 80-20 now! Go http://www.80-20initiative.net/membership/payment.asp. There has never been an Asian Am organization as gutsy, as knowledgeable in politics and as dedicated to you as 80-20.
Be pioneers! May you and I share the burden.

Republicans, please step forth to serve!
Date: Aug./2/2008 (Sat.); Place: Crowne Plaza hotel, Foster City, CA.
The deadline to apply to run for Delegate is tomorrow. Print, fill out and fax in your application form, shown below.
80-20's Bylaws require that the Delegates be 1/3 Republicans, 1/3 Democrats, and 1/3 Independents/Declines. We have enough candidates for D and I. But we still need 4 more to run for Republican Delegates.
You are guaranteed to be elected, unless many more than 4 step forth to run today or tomorrow.
Please step forth to serve your community and be a part of history.

All Asian Americans may want to read a NY Times article entitled "Muslim Voters Detect a Snub From Obama" of 2 days ago. Why? To remind ourselves of where our community would be without 80-20 fighting for the community.
Here are a few facts from the NY Times article. How sad it is to be politically weak!
o "2 Muslim women wearing head scarves were barred by campaign aides from appearing behind Obama."
o Congressman Keith Ellison, a Muslim, volunteered to speak for Obama at a rally. He was told "no" by an Obama aide.
o Muslims nationwide responded to Obama's "CHANGE" campaign enthusiastically. A year later, many say, Obama has not returned their embrace.
o "The community feels betrayed" - Muslim Public Affair Council
o At a Virginia Muslim event, Clinton and Obama provided surrogates but McCain did not.
o Muslim groups endorsed Bush in 2000, only to find themselves ignored by the Bush administration which advocated detention and deportation of Muslim immigrants and along wth other security measures after Sept. 11.
For the complete article, visit http://www.nytimes.com/2008/06/24/us/politics/24muslim.html?_r=1&oref=slogin
How sad it is to be politically weak!
We deeply empathize with American Muslims. We are just grateful that thankfully 80-20 has a huge email list and has organized effective bloc votes to protect ourselves politically.
We are of course unhappy with Sen. Obama's snubbing of Am. Muslims. However, Sen. McCain has treated them even worse.
Politics is pragmatic, even cruel. Unless a minority is effective in applying leverage, it gets stepped on or gets lost in the shuffle. Only 11 years ago, the Democratic and Republican parties competed to distance themselves from our community, after the so called "Asian Campaign Finance Scandal!"
Please go read the NY Times article. Join 80-20, if you still have not. Click on http://www.80-20initiative.net to join. Otherwise THE SAD FATE OF THE POLITICALLY WEAK MAY BEFALL ON US, AGAIN.
Do your share to help our community become strong politically.

A Special Message To Asian Am. Republicans
Dear Asian American Republicans:
Our community really needs your help to win equal opportunity in 1) college admission for our children and 2) workplaces for ourselves.
For years you've been told by Asian Am. Republican leaders, whose livelihood depends on their careers with the Republican Party, that "S. B. Woo is a Democrat" and that "80-20 is a Democratic front." Wrong!
Since 2001, S. B. Woo has declared that for the rest of his life he'd not run for any office nor accept any federal appointment, & he would switch to register as an Independent.
Do you think the AsAm Republican leaders should make the same personal sacrifice to clear their self-interest before they accuse others?
Is 80-20 a Democratic front? NO! Here are 3 facts showing how 80-20 has tried to entice AsAm GOP leaders to unite and serve our community.
1) Giving GOP Presidential candidates MORE TIME to answer its questionnaire. It was so for George Bush in 2000 and 2004. It is so for Sen. McCain this year.
2) Giving Republicans more than its fair share of delegates to 80-20's Endorsement Convention. See the % of registered Republicans nationwide & in the AsAm community:
Nation-wide:
Republicans 32.5%
Democrats 42.6%
Inds/Declines 25%
Asian Ams:
Republicans 24%
Democrats 33%
Inds/Declines 43%
However, 80-20's bylaws allocates 1/3 R, 1/3 D and 1/3 I for the delegates to its Endorsement Convention.
3) Using gentler language with Sen. McCain than with Democratic presidential candidates*. See examples of earlier emails to D's appended at the end of this newsletter.
AsAm Republicans: 80-20 has done all it could to raise the conscience & consciousness of AsAm GOP Leaders. Now it's up to you to take a stand.
AsAm GOP leaders often imply that Asian Ams lack the skills to be managers in workplaces, and that's why they don't push Sen. McCain to reply to 80-20's questionnaire with all yeses. Let's say that they are right. However, how could these same leaders be so silent when our children, who are indeed good enough to get into the good schools, face higher college admission bars?
Could it be that AsAm GOP leaders have worked too hard for partisan interest and too little for our community? In contrast, most AsAm Democratic leaders helped 80-20 induce Senators Obama and Clinton to reply with all yeses.
Will you exercise independent judgment? Will you send a fax to Sen. McCain urging him to answer 80-20's questionnaire with all yeses please? Fax to (703) 413-0740.
Let the AsAm Republican leaders know that they are out of touch with their own people. Be a leader to fight for our community!
Respectfully,
Kathleen To

Comparing Senators McCain and Obama
Sen. McCain still HAS NOT, in spite of a huge coordinated outreach effort to him by 80-20.
If you are a Republican and think Sen. McCain is deserving of our community's consider, FAX AND URGE HIM TO REPLY WITH ALL YESES. Fax him via (703) 413-0740.
Please copy me in, because I am gathering all faxes from Asian Am. Republicans to him to show his campaign that it is much to Sen. McCain's advantage to reply with all yeses. Otherwise, not only Asian Am. Independents but also Republicans will not vote for him.

Why Can't Sen. McCain Answer YES to our questions?
Although his Democratic opponents, Senators Obama has already answered all yeses since 4 months ago, 80-20 was willing to be patient with Sen. McCain knowing that the Republican Party has a different culture. We waited until he no longer had to bow to the pressure of the extreme conservatives in his party.
Sen. McCain travels across the nation reaching out to "forgotten Americans." However, he has turned his back to our reaching out to him. We therefore must ask openly:
Senator McCain:
You seem like a honorable person. However, does your value system include people like us? Do you share our concerns? Why can't you answer yes to the following six questions? We want to know, Senator McCain!
Respectfully,
Asian Ams. Deciding Whom to Support
For your info., here are the 6 questions in 80-20's questionnaire again.
(1) If elected, will you direct the Labor Secretary to hold public hearings regarding the validity of the huge amount of statistical data strongly suggesting discriminatory practices against Asian Americans in workplaces today? Yes or No?
(2) If the data were shown valid, will you issue a directive to the Labor Department asking it to focus on enforcing Executive Order 11246 on behalf of Asian Americans, since in the past similar efforts have already been made on behalf of women and other minorities? Yes or No?
(3) Two years after you have issued the directive described in item 2, will you meet with a group of Asian American national organizations, put together by 80-20 and the Labor Department, to review the progress in extending equal opportunity to Asian Americans? Yes or No?
(4) If elected, will you within your first term of office, seek to increase the nomination of qualified Asian Americans to serve as Article III life-tenured federal judges, whenever such vacancies are available until the current dismal situation is significantly remedied? [To put things in perspective, not meaning to imply quota, presently there are 0.6% Asian Am. Federal judges, while the Asian Am. population is 4.5% and the % of Asian Am legal professionals in laws firms of 100 or larger is at least 5.3%.] Yes or No?
(5) If elected, will you seek to nominate, within your first term of office, qualified Asian Americans to serve as Article III Circuit Judges, whenever there are vacancies in those positions, until the current dismal situation is significantly remedied? [To put things in perspective, none of the 179 Article III Circuit judges is an Asian American.] Yes or No?
(6) If elected, will you consider nominating a qualified Asian America to the Supreme Court, when a vacancy occurs? Two years upon your taking the office, will you meet with a group of Asian American leaders, put together jointly by 80-20 and other Asian American national organizations to review the progress in adding Asian American Federal judges?" Yes or No?

How faxing Sen. McCain will help YOU!
If you fax and help induce Sen. McCain to reply to 80-20's questionnaire with all yeses, after this election all of us will be treated equally in jobs. Result? In time, the number of Asian American
o managers in private industries and universities will DOUBLE, adding another 0.5 MILLION persons;
o federal employees in the Senior Executive Service will TRIPLE;
o Federal judges will increase by 8 FOLD.
All of the above will come to us by just being treated equally!
But what if McCain wins, WITHOUT replying all yeses? Our assured equal opportunity in workplace, as promised by Obama and Clinton, will VANISH.
Can we sit idly by & let it happen? No!
What can you do? Send a fax to Sen. McCain using (703) 413-0740. Copy me in, if you want please. Use your own words. Please include the following central message.
Dear Sen. McCain:
Please reply to 80-20's questionnaire with all yeses, as did Senators Obama and Clinton. Equal opportunity and justice for Asian Ams are key issues for me. Without your positive reply, I'll definitely vote for the Democratic nominee who has made iron-clad commitment to our community. However, with an equally strong reply from you, I'll consider your candidacy carefully and ask my friends and relatives to give you another look.
Name & Party Affiliation: (Specify a R or D or Indep.)
Address:
Title: (Optional. If used, specify "for Identification only").
What if we Sen. McCain doesn't reply affirmatively after all?
As required by 80-20's Bylaws, 80-20 shall hold an Endorsement Convention to endorse the presidential candidate who do share our rightful concerns!
One way or another, 80-20 will find a way so that you will be treated equally in workplaces.
As a group we can achieve dreams that are unachievable by any of us as an individual. FAX NOW.

CALL TO ACTION
80-20 will soon endorse a presidential candidate who shares Asian Am. concerns. However, Republican nominee Sen. John McCain has not yet replied to 80-20's questionnaire in spite of great efforts by 80-20 to reach out to him.
80-20 worked with 3 great Republicans asking Sen. McCain to respond positively. They are US Sen. Daniel Evans of Washington (retired), Cong. Mike Castle of Delaware, and C. C. Yin of CA who raised $60K for McCain when he polled only 4th among the GOP presidential candidates. 80-20's questionnaire asks all presidential candidates to give Asian Ams iron-clad commitments to help us achieve equal opportunity in workplaces and in judicial appointments.
Although Sen. McCain is disappointing when compared with Sens. Obama & Clinton, 80-20 sees a continued effort to induce him to reply as a win-win situation for now. His positive reply would guarantee that the next president, whether a D or a R, will enforce Exec. Order 11246 for Asian Am. in workplaces -- a win for us. McCain's positive reply will give him a fair chance to win Asian Am. votes -- a win for him.
Fax a strong message to Sen. McCain using (703) 413-0740 or (703) 752-2515 ! Copy me in via sbw@80-20.us. Use your own words. Please include the following central message.
Dear Sen. McCain:

Please do it NOW. You know how effective such efforts have been with Senators Clinton & Obama. Please do your share and enjoy the pride of having done it! The more the faxes go in, the more Sen. McCain will know how united we are.

2) All delegates are 80-20 members and elected by 80-20 members.

4) Candidates and/or their surrogates are invited to address the delegates.
5) All 80-20 members may apply to run for delegates.

2) Add a new sub-article 3.5:
3.5 Guiding Principle In Taking Actions
Whenever feasible, 80-20 shall try to create a win-win situation in its dealings with other individuals and organizations. In dealing with organizations working for the same goals, 80-20 shall be patient and tolerant. In dealing with others that are damaging or have damaged our effort to achieve equal opportunity and justice, if the entity repeatedly refuses to agree to a win-win solution, 80-20, being a political action committee, shall apply strong and strategic pressure to counter the other side's principal interests. If and when a satisfactory solution is reached, 80-20 shall retrospectively make the other side a winner, or appear to be a winner.
3) Add a new sub-article 3.6:
3.6 Prohibition
Until Dec. 31, 2016 or a membership exceeding 10,000, whichever comes first, 80-20 shall not take any position in US foreign policies and/or foreign matters, except when it may impact upon its goal to achieve equal opportunity and justice for Asian Americans. The decision to invoke the exception must be approved by 3/4 (75%) of the entire Board. However, related decisions and actions subsequent to the approval of the exemption shall be governed by the Robert's Rules of Order only.
4) Add a new sub-article 3.2.6:
3.2.6 Board Communication Protocol and Behavior Guidelines:
Members of the Board shall behave professionally at all times, so as to effectively promote and advance the goals and images of the organization, both within and without. This includes but is not limited to the following cases:

Is affirmative action good or bad?
Affirmative action was NOT applied uniformly to all Americans. It was applied to blacks, Hispanics, Native Indians and women, but not Asian Ams. Why? The implementation of AF was left to the Labor Dept. All past and current Labor Secretaries have knowingly bypassed Asian Ams!!!
Given the above knowledge, specific questions about AF can be answered easily.
1) Is affirmative action good or bad for blacks, Hispanics, Native Americans and women?
Of course, it's GOOD for all of them. Before 1965, the year when Exec Order 11246 was issued to enforce affirmative action, there were practically NO managers among blacks, Hispanics, Native Ams. and women. Now there are so many. Many are indeed CEOs of Fortune 500 companies. We are glad for them.
2) Is affirmative action good or bad for Asian Ams.?
As it is now, our adults do NOT get the advantage of affirmation action in workplaces while our children gets the disadvantage of affirmation action in admission to first tier universities. Of course, it has been BAD for Asian Ams.
See 80-20 Educational Foundation's full page ad which clearly lays out our grievances. The ad has only 300 words with 2 easy to understand charts. Visit http://www.80-20educationalfoundation.org/projects/equalopp_washingtonpost.asp
3) How will 80-20 make affirmative action good for us also?
80-20 has obtained the signed iron-clad commitment of Senators Clinton and Obama that if elected, each'll apply AF to Asian Americans. See http://www.80-20initiative.net/news/preselect2008.asp .
80-20 is now working hard on Sen. McCain to give the same commitment. A number of very high ranking Republican elected officials are helping, although not a single Republican elected Asian American official has offered to assist us yet. Please contact me via sbw@udel.edu , if you are an elected official and want to help.
Let's live up to our generational responsibility for our offspring.

80-20, Chinese Americans and CNN
(A) 80-20's Effectiveness Regarding The Cafferty Statement
After Cafferty made his #@$!*& statement, 80-20 President Kathleen To emailed him on April 14 to express 80-20's "deep concern." She asked Cafferty "to clarify" whether his words "were not in any way intended to cast an aspersion on the millions of patriotic Chinese Americans," On the same day, Cafferty replied and went on air to make the same statement and told us when it'll be on air.

Subject: RE: Letter from 80-20 Initiative
"I was referring strictly to the Chinese government and not to the Chinese people or Chinese Americans. I made that clear on the Situation Room broadcast this evening (4/14) at approximately 6:10 p.m. when I read a clarification of my remarks from last week. Thank you very much for your letter.
Regards,
Jack Cafferty" See http://www.80-20initiative.net.
Had he not clarified, 80-20 would have mounted a campaign with all its resources. Dire negative statements on one component of Asian Ams. casts aspersion on all Asian Americans.
However, since his statement is about the Chinese government, we figured that it'd best left to the Chinese government to handle, not that we agreed with the statement.
Please let your emotion ebb and then ponder if 80-20 has done the right thing that is amazingly effective. Also note that 80-20 is an Asian Am. organization, not a Chinese American organization.
(B) 80-20's Traditional Policy:
Not to take positions on US foreign policy and foreign matters, although we insist that we have the rights to do so.
Why? For two good reasons.
First, Asian Americans have come from many native lands with different histories. Taking positions on foreign matters could be detrimental to the unity of the Asian American community.
Second, speaking frankly, we are not yet equal citizens of America. We would be the most vulnerable in taking positions on US foreign policy. It is best that we "keep our powder dry" and fight for our equal opportunity in workplaces and equal justice in the US courts first. Channel your anger to your support for 80-20 -- an organization that works methodically and tirelessly to win equal opportunity and justice for you. To join, go http://www.80-20initiative.net.
