Good News. Victory?
80-20 SuperPAC released its " Demand Apology or Reject Trump", DART" e-newsletter at 3:51pm EDT. It received phenomenal support from our community - money and support rolled in. Click here to visit our Poster Board on DART. You'll be delighted.
Result? Whether by effectiveness or accident, about 2 hours later, Pres. Trump made amends to our community.
"It is very important that we totally protect our Asian American community in the United States, and all around the world," Trump tweeted Monday evening. "They are amazing people, and the spreading of the Virus (...) is NOT their fault in any way, shape, or form. They are working closely with us to get rid of it. WE WILL PREVAIL TOGETHER!"
At his 6 pm EDT press conference, Pres. Trump essentially repeated the same statements. Click here to hear it yourself. The specific statement at the AsAm community begins at 40 seconds into the video.
In view of Pres.Trump's recent amends, 80-20 SuperPAC shall suspend its DART project, unless he uses the term "Chinese virus" again. If Pres. Trump does NOT use the term again, then it is indeed a victory for us. :-)
Other Similar Efforts That 80-20 is Aware of
1) JCPA (Jewish Council for Public Affairs committee) has organized manyJewish and AsAms groups to together sign a letter to Pres. Trump. It very diplomatically asked him to stop using the term "Chinese virus". To see the letter, click here. 80-20 Educational Foundation name is at the very top of along list of 50+ organizations. To the best of my knowledge, that letter went out at 6 pm yesterday.
2) AsAm Congressman Ted Lieu has been very outspoken opposing Pres. Trump's use of the term "Chinese virus" since a few days ago.
3) Michelle Huang started a petition asking Pres. Trump to apologize more
than a week ago, aiming to get 150k signers. Currently it is at about the
130,000 level. To see the petition and/or to sign it, click here.
We apologize to other individuals and orgs. which may be making similar efforts that 80-20 doesn't know about. Thank you for doing your share.
