UNITY IS POWER. VOTE AS A BLOC FOR KERRY.
Remember these 2 key points:
1. Kerry & Edwards both promised in writing to enforce Executive Order 11246, a law that has been used to eliminate job related discrimination for all Americans, except for Asian Americans.
Bush and Cheney REFUSED to promise.
2. Kerry & Edwards both condemned in writing Congressman Howard Coble, House Chairman of "Homeland Security Subcommittee" who justified the WWII internment of Japanese Americans. Bush & Cheney were SILENT.
See a collage of newspaper ads that 80-20 has placed in various Communities, which stressed the above two points.

[C] AsAms Will Win Regardless Of Who Wins on November 2nd.
80-20 is working hard to help our endorsed candidate, John Kerry, win. However, it is important for us to realized that SO LONG AS WE VOTE AS A BLOC, we'll win on NOVEMBER 2, regardless of who will win the White House.
Politicians & political parties will always court those who can help them win the next election. If we deliver another bloc vote in 2004, on top of the one in 2000, both parties will become believers that the AsAm community is now a bloc voter. That means: the two parties will then earnestly compete to serve our rightful interests!
Vote as a bloc, and our DREAM will come true!

QUIZ QUIZ QUIZ
Know the total monetary worth of 80-20's conditional endorsement of Kerry?
Ans: $4 to $8 million dollars! That will be the cost of sending 8 pro-Kerry
mails (by Bulk or by first class) to 1.1 million AsAm families and individuals.
That is not to mention money that 80-20 spent on TV and newspaper ads. You know
the impact of pouring this kind of money in support of Kerry in 4 weeks? Let
those who had ignored the Asian Am. community BEWARE!

Kerry May Appoint AsAm To Supreme Court/ + & - Reactions
[A] KERRY MAY APPOINT AN ASAM TO THE SUPREME COURT!!
Three days after 80-20 raised the Supreme Court Justices issue
worrying about a Supreme Court filled with Bush appointees, the NY
Times answered. A front page article on 10/22 says that Kerry may
appoint the first Asian American to the Supreme Court! See excerpt:
“With no vacancies on the court in more than a decade, there
is heightened expectation that the next president will have
one or more opportunities to choose justices and shape the
court for years to come.
Some people who could be considered for the Supreme Court,
according to interviews with several Democratic advisers:
Harold Hongju Koh, the dean of Yale Law School. Professor
Koh, a widely admired scholar who has worked in both
Democratic and Republican administrations, would be the
court's first Asian-American member.”
http://www.nytimes.com/2004/10/22/politics/campaign/22kbench.html
A Supreme Court appointment like that, for Asian Ams., will mean
(1) NO MORE risk of internment for us and our children, &
(2) NO MORE selective enforcement of laws, e.g. enforcing E.O. 11246
for all Americans but not for AsAms. We’ll get a just hearing in
the
highest court of our land.
Vote KERRY For A Brighter Future.

Supreme Court Justices/ How You Can Help
[A] ARE YOU WORRIED?
Four of the 9 Supreme Court Justices may retire, according to
many accounts. Their ages:
William H. Rehnquist, Chief Justice, 80 years old.
John Paul Stevens, 84 years old.
Sandra Day O'Connor, 74 years old.
Ruth Bader Ginsburg, 71 years old.
A NY Times opinion piece asked in its title: "Imagining America if
George Bush Chose the Supreme Court."
For Asian Americans (AsAms), there is a more threatening issue.
When Pres. Roosevelt ordered during WWII the internment of ALL
Japanese Ams in the continental USA, Fred Korematsu challenged the
order all the way up to the Supreme Court. The Supreme Court ruled
that he and ALL Japanese Ams. be interned while only those Italian
and German Ams. who were suspected of espionage were also
interned.
Remember, John Kerry and John Edwards condemned Cong.
Howard Coble, who justified internment. George Bush and Dick
Cheney did NOT. Now you know the importance of electing John
Kerry.
[B] HOW YOU CAN HELP KERRY
(1) The simplest way you can help WITH AN IMPACT is to write a
letter to the editor of your local paper. Please be brief & to the
point.
That's how editors like it. Talk about issues that most Americans care
about.
(2) Advise S. B. Woo how to buy ads in free papers in the states

are in Ohio, Pennsylvania, Florida, Missouri and New Jersey.
[E] HOW 80-20 USES CARROTS & STICKS
1. For about 3 yrs. & 9 months, 80-20 is NON-partisan.
2. After 80-20 has endorsed, it is VERY partisan in favor of the
3. endorsed candidate. That is when 80-20 rewards & punishes.
4. After the election, 80-20 is again NON-partisan.
Why? Carrots & sticks! That is the ONLY way to induce the two
political parties to COMPETE to serve the rightful interests of Asian
Americans. WE punish the party enough that ignores us. It'll learn
NOT TO IGNORE US again. UNITY IS POWER. Vote as a bloc.

An 80-20 Member Registering Voters
The following account is by William Uy, a life member of 80-20 and a Republican Delegate to 80-20's Endorsement Convention, of his recent experience registering voters in Oakland, CA.
Dear 80-20 Supporters,
I thought that you would be interested in the results of our (my wife Jing and I) voter registration activity in Oakland Chinatown. Since we do not speak Cantonese, we were lucky that three senior high schoolers - who speak Cantonese - volunteered to help us.
In a total of 6.5 hours (in two days), we registered 128 voters (includes on-site registration and cards requested) – predominantly Chinese Americans. We were busy the moment we set up our registration table. 53 of those were registered on-site and 35 were FIRST TIME voters. Even though we have voter registration cards with Chinese instructions, there were some who
still needed help filling out the cards. We also helped those, who brought their actual ballots and do not know what to do, even though the ballots have both Chinese and English instructions.
I tell you! It was a truly very satisfying and patriotic work. This is specially so when you watched the excitement and determination of some frail, white hair senior housewives who were registering for the first time in their life – and they are for Kerry!
Party affiliation of those registered on site: 2 Republicans, 14 Democrats, 37 declined to state party affiliation. However, it is safe to assume that over 90% of the 128 voters are for Kerry – judging from their comments.
Attached are some pictures taken of our voter registration activity. Note that I have used 80-20 as the organizer of this activity.
We also conducted voter registration at our parish church, St. Ignatius, in Antioch. Only 3 came to register (all Democrats).

[B] What Pres. Bush Thinks of Vietnamese. What An INSULT!
On the Sept. 27 edition of the O'Reilly Factor, a Fox News Channel show, the following conversation between Pres. Bush and O'Reilly occurred:

which is why they don't have it today.
BUSH: Yes.

freedom?
BUSH: Absolutely. Read the transcript:

Why Go For Kerry? / Good news
Our "Hope & Fear " are what led us to Kerry.
First, MORE HOPE for winning equal opportunity in workplaces e.g. in getting raises, promotions and rising to the top.
Kerry & Edwards both promised in writing to enforce
Executive Order 11246 for Asian Americans. EO 11246
is a law that has been used to eliminate discrimination
in workplaces for ALL Americans except for Asian Ams.
Bush & Cheney REFUSED to promise.
Second, LESS FEAR of having our civil rights violated, if, God forbid, a war breaks out between the U.S. & an Asian nation, say North Korea.
Even the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights (with many Bush
appointees) reported that the Bush administration's civil rights
record was not satisfactory. Visit
http://www.usccr.gov/press/2004/100504b.htm
Would threats and harassment come to YOU & YOUR FAMILY,
whether you are N. Koreans or not, since our compatriots don't
know the difference between N. Koreans & Asians Americans?
Remember how Sikhs, Arabs and Indian Americans were
threatened & harassed in the post 9/11 atmosphere?
Would a Bush Administration provide as much support for you
as a Kerry Administration?
Will the worst - internment - happen?
Kerry & Edwards condemned in writing Congressman
Howard Coble, Chairman of House Subcommittee on
Homeland Security who publicly justified on 2/3/2003 WWII
internment of Japanese Americans.
Bush & Cheney were SILENT, in the face of a huge
protest from every component of the AsAm community.
THEREFORE, vote for Kerry/Edwards for OUR OWN SAKE.

80-20 Endorses, with reservation, Sen. Kerry & Why
80-20's elected Delegates, composed of 1/3 Republicans, 1/3 Democrats and 1/3 Independents, unanimously voted to "endorse , with reservation, Senator John Kerry for President." Their reasons are seen in the press release appended at the end.
In spirit, the "endorsement with reservation" means the following. 80-20 sends a clear message to all politicians & political parties: "If you want AsAms' votes and money, you need to earn it. No more free lunch."
In pragmatic terms for Asian Americans, the "endorsement with reservation" means the following: 80-20 still STRONGLY recommends that AsAms vote for Kerry. However, the 80-20 National will not be going all out in applying its resources to campaign for Kerry. The National will divert part of its war chest for a lawsuit against the Department of Labor which will better serve our community's interest. However, we'll still be doing a lot for Senator Kerry**.
In pragmatic terms for the Kerry campaign, the "endorsement with reservation" may imply the following: A recent poll showed the choice of Kerry/Bush among AsAms is 43/36, with 20% undecided. http://www.latimes.com/news/nationworld/nation/la-na-asianvote15sep15,15189204.story?coll=la-headlines-nation,5189204.story?coll=la-headlines-nation . Having endorsed Kerry/Edwards, 80-20 predicts that by election time, we'll
increase Kerry's current 7 point lead to at least 30 among AsAms. However, had 80-20 decided on a full endorsement two weeks ago, it would have delivered 80% of the Asian American votes, resulting in a 60 point margin of victory for Kerry among AsAms.
In summary, 80-20's decision achieves three goals. a) To let President Bush and the Republican Party know that if you don't help us, we don't help you. b) To let Senator Kerry and the Democratic Party know that you had helped us some and we'll help back some. c) To let both parties know that 80-20 has tremendous ability to deliver Asian Am. votes. If the two Parties don't believe it now, on election day they'll find out the 80-20's "endorsement with reservation" would increase Senator Kerry's current 7-point lead to at least 30 among Asian Am. voters. Imagine, what they could have gained, had they earned 80-20's FULL endorsement!
**80-20 National will still focus in a couple of contested states to try to win electoral votes for Senator Kerry. We'll still do TV and newspaper ads. The ads will still be in four languages: English, Korean, Vietnamese & Chinese. However, given the delay of two weeks in getting all such efforts started and the allocation of fewer resources, the amount of the buy and the length of air time will obviously not be as large.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE (October 2, 2004)
Contact Person: S. B. Woo, (302) 366 0259
Largest Asian American PAC Endorses, with Reservation,
John Kerry for President
80-20, a National cyberspace organization capable of reaching 70% of Asian American (AsAm) registered voters in 30 hours, announced today, with reservation, to endorse Senator John Kerry for President. This decision was unanimously made by 1/3 Republicans, 1/3 Independents, and 1/3 Democrats, 2 weeks after its Endorsement Convention in San Mateo voted to postpone a decision.
A recent poll showed the choice of Kerry/Bush among AsAms is 43/36, with 20% undecided. http://www.latimes.com/news/nationworld/nation/la-na-asianvote15sep15,1,5189204.story?coll=la-headlines-nation . Having endorsed Kerry/Edwards, 80-20 predicts that by election time, we'll increase Kerry's current 7 point lead to at least 30.
Had 80-20 decided on a full endorsement two weeks ago, it would have delivered 80% of the Asian American votes, resulting in a 60 point margin for Kerry. 80-20 is sending a clear message to all politicians and political parties: "if you want AsAms' votes and money, you need
to earn it. No more free lunch!"
Senator Kerry was given the nod because, in comparison, he and the Democratic party are better than Bush and the Republican Party for the past 4 years. Here are the comparisons:
A) Senators Kerry and Edwards both promised in writing to help AsAms achieve equal opportunity in workplaces through the enforcement of Executive Order 11246, while Mr. Bush did not. http://www.80-20initiative/preselect.html EO 11246 has been enforced to break the glass ceiling for African Americans, women, Latinos, Native Americans, but not for Asian Americans.
B) Kerry & Edwards sided with AsAms in condemning Congressman Howard Coble, Chair, House Subcommittee on Homeland Security. Coble stated in public on Feb. 4, 2003 that internment of Japanese Americans during WWII was for protecting Japanese Ams. AsAms would be most worried by that type of protection should there be a significant conflict between USA and an Asian nation. In contrast, Bush & Cheney were silent. See Kerry and Edward statements:
http://www.80-20initiative.net/Kerry.html , and
http://www.80-20initiative.net/Edwards.html
C) The Democratic Party's position on immigration policy and anti-hate crime policy is better for all minorities including AsAms.
80-20 will divert a part of its election war chest to its pending lawsuit against the Department of Labor for its non-enforcement of Executive Order 11246 for AsAms.
In 2000, 80-20 endorsed Gore, and delivered nationally "more than 2 of every three votes" to him, according to a very large national survey of how Asian Americans voted, partially sponsored by the National Science Foundation (http://www.80-20initiative.net/PNAAPs.html ) 80- 20 is rated as one of the two most effective cyberspace organizations in the 2000 election, by a book published by three Syracuse University professors (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/0813340055/qid=1025198992/ref==sr_1/104-2670764-6623936 ).
