80-20 is bold and effective in fighting for our community.
80-20 is also bold in adhering to democratic principles as an organization, e.g. requiring all its elective positions be CONTESTED to give its members a true choice.
Has this experiment worked? Splendidly! See how even its unsuccessful Board candidates have helped serve 80-20, since the election of 5 months ago. 80-20 salutes them.
Henry Liu of MO: Helped form TWO NEW chapters for 80-20:
A Mid Missouri chapter: 35 members.
A St. Louis chapter (working with Winnie Liu & Prof. Hung- Gay Fung): 25 members
Charles Zhang of Michigan: Joined as one of 5 members of the National Fundraising Committee, and gave another $3500 to become an Honorary Life Member.
Kam Liu of Chicago: Joined as one of the 5 Members of the National Fundraising Comm., and has volunteered to do a fundraiser for 80-20 in Chicago this year.
Joel Wong of SF: Is coordinating the 6 great Affiliates of 80-20 in North Calif. (CAPA, CPAC, CBC, VPAC, World Fed. Of Ch. Orgs. of Viet/Camb/Lao, and South Bay Voter Ed. Assoc.) for a bloc vote in 2004.
80-20 is setting a splendid tradition for itself and perhaps for t he entire APA community.
- - - - GOOD NEWS: Walter Wang, CEO, CEO of J-M Manufacturing & on the Board of Formosa Pastic Group, gave $5,000. Carter Tseng, another C-100 members like Walter Wang, became a Life Member. James Cheung, President of Agio Solutions, gave $2,000. Laura & Michael Ting joined as Life Members. A St. Louis 80-20 chapter has been formed!
James Cheung also wanted to buy ads on 80-20's web site to recruit employees for his company because he said, "IF THEY CARE ENOUGH TO JOIN 80-20, they should have a little more concern beyond their own self interest." Unfortunately, 80-20 is a PAC and can't accept corporate money which is to pay for the ad. But James' compliment to 80-20 members is much appreciated. :-)
ANNOUNCEMENT: If you'd like to meet S. B. Woo, he will be speaking (1) on 5/22 at a CAPA event in SF. Location: Walnut Creek Marriott Ticket & Info: 925 945-1901; EmilyChang@capa-new.org , and (2) on 5/29 in a seminar sponsored by the Census Advisory Committee on the Asian Population at Holiday Inn, Oakland-Int'l Airport, 500 Hegenberger Road, Oakland, CA 94621 For more details, please e-mail Jing at . Unity is power. See below. We apologize for not being able to publicize hundreds of other e-mails & faxes.
See how EVERY COMPONENT of the Asian American community spoke up. See how VERY ACTIVE REPUBLICANS, including a member of the NRCC Business Council, and a student recently invited by V.P. Cheney to attend a national phone hook-up, and a radio personality, insist on a satisfactory answer to 80-20's questionnaire. We salute these individuals for their selfless effort on behalf of our community.

Is Ignoring Pres. Bush Smart? Email him!
80-20's strategy is, from day one, to " induce the two major political parties to COMPETE to serve AsAms' rightful interests in order to win 80-20's endorsement."
Now that Kerry has agreed to enforce E.O. 11246 if elected our president, PRESS HARD for Bush's agreement too. That way, whosoever wins the next election, we'll win our equal opportunity & see the number of APA executives/ senior partners/ administrators/ managers in all walks of life increase by 3 fold within about 10 years. Visit http://www.80-20.info/eo11246.html to see what E.O. 11246 is all about.
Some of you are NOT urging Bush to reply to 80-20s questionnaire, because you hope that Bush will NOT reply so that 80-20 will NOT endorse Bush. Is that smart?
(1) Has Democrat Party been so nice to the APA community? During the 1997 campaign finance scandal, which the New York Times termed the Asiagate, both parties competed to get as far away from us as possible.
(2) George W. Bush's APA appointments are larger in number & more significant in position, including 19 that required Senate confirmation, than Clinton's in 8 years. See: http://www.aapi.gov/resources/factapp.htm
(3) Are you sure that Bush will NOT be our next president? Is it worth a few minutes of your time to get him to promise enforcing EO 1246 too, if your guess is wrong?
80-20 is working so hard to bring maximum benefit to our community. YOU need to do your share too. So unite and email Bush.

A Selection of Faxes Sent To Candidate Bush
Times were that most Asian Americans viewed our elected officials as our "parents" or "superior or powerful people." Many were subservient and timid towards officials. Result? Benign neglect of Asian Americans! That is why E.O. 11246 was enforced for all Americans except for the Asian Americans.
Today, a new generation of Asian Americans have emerged. We correctly view our elected officials as our PUBLIC SERVANTS. We are friendly but business-like with officials. We support those who share our concerns and reject those who don't. Result? We begin to win our equal justice and opportunity.

CALL TO ACTION
John Kerry, the Dem. Presidential candidate, has answered YES/YES/YES to 80-20's questionnaire on 12/22/03. Candidate George Bush has not, 100 days later. Is Bush always going to be slower than Kerry in responding to our rightful aspirations?
On 1/19/04, Bush-Cheney headquarters wrote 80-20 saying that it might reply in March. March has come and gone.
80-20's questionnaire seeks his promise that upon his becoming our next president, he will enforce Exec. Order 11246 for us, a law that is already enforced for all Americans except for APAs. When enforced, the number of APA Executive/Administrators/Managers/ Senior Partners are estimated to increase 3 fold within 10 years. To view our questionnaire & Kerry's answers, visit: http://www.80-20initiative.net/preselect.html.
It is time for ALL OF US to let CANDIDATE Bush know that we will NOT consider his candidacy, if he is not willing to promise us equal opportunity. Specifically, we want to see his unambiguous answers to 80-20's questionnaire.
Fax or call "Bush-Cheney '04" :

3. Be sure to include your name, postal address, job title, and your party affiliation, IF you are registered as a Republican or a Decline or an Independent,
4. Copy it to RNC, whose numbers are: Fax: (202) 863-8820 Phone: (202) 863-8500 5. Kindly please copy in S. B. Woo via Fax: (302) 366-0909.
We deserve equal opportunity, but we must be willing to fight for it!! Do NOT give Bush's candidacy financial contribution or any other forms of aid. Fight for our children. They need the enforcement of E.O. 11246. Don't deter their interests.

Why is a bloc vote so powerful?
Why is a bloc vote so powerful? Here is an illustration.
Two candidates run against each other in a hypothetical political district that has two constituent groups only. One group has 1 million voters and the other has 10 million voters. Candidate A, a novice, eagerly focuses on the large group, not being aware that the small constituent group has the internal political cohesion to deliver a bloc vote while the large group does not.
Candidate A wins the endorsement of most community leaders in the large group. When the ballots are open, he indeed wins in the large community. He wins 52% of that community's votes, while his opponent gets 48%. The difference between 52% and 48% is 4%. The large group has 10 millions votes. 4% of 10 million votes provides a "profit" of 400,000 votes to candidate A.
His opponent, candidate B, is a seasoned politician. She courts the small group and wins that little community by a ratio of 80 to 20, the namesake of The 80-20 Initiative. The difference between 80% and 20% is 60%. 60% of 1 million votes provides a "PROFIT" of 600,000 votes.
As a result, candidate B wins the election by 200,000 votes. That is the POWER OF A BLOC VOTE.
In California, the APA population is 1/9 that of the rest of the population, similar to the example given above.
